20%. That’s the given statistic for losing a sow in childbirth. Statiscally, we knew this was a possibility but it doesn’t make losing a favorite pig and her babies any easier. Last night we lost Dallas, Elizabeths silver solid sow and her 4 babies had died inside. She was such a sweetheart and had such adventures including a trip to Texas (which is how she got her name). She was the first of Elizabeth’s own babies to have taken a Best In Show. 💗 Thankfully, we still have her sister and one of her babies but it still sucks.

Our annual Town N Country 4-H show was today. Elizabeth took Reserve in Show Cavy with a Cal Pattern behind a very pretty Abyssinian.

But I’ll be honest, I don’t have a photo of that. What I do have a photo of was Elizabeth congratulating one of her fellow 4-H members who gave cavy showmanship a shot today after *just* learning how to do it and using one of Elizabeths animals, won Junior cavy showman. Congratulations to Parker and all our winners today! 💗

Now that this has been gifted, I can share. Elizabeth did her first commissioned piece of art for a cavy friend whose dog passed away. The emotion in his eyes and ears are amazing! Can’t wait to see what else she creates ❤️

No Best in Shows today but was fortunate to win 3 Best Opposite of Breeds under Dale Mize and Joseph Colucci. Then, competed in Best of the Best. All animals - open and youth - that won best in show compete against each other. It was kinda funny to watch rabbit judges try and figure out cavies. But the cavies did get some serious looks from some 🥰

Chuck took 3 Best Opposite Blues, 3 Best Opposite Reds and a Best of Variety Red. Plus Best Colored Fur every show 💙

The annual Christmas show is upon us and it keeps getting bigger and better every year! Elizabeth was able to walk away with not one but TWO Best In Show awards tonight with her American golden solid and American Satin ticked solid. 🎄 ❤️

Chuck walked away with two Best Opposite Blue Satins and two Best Opposite Red Satins plus TWO Best Colored fur awards with his blues. 💙

Now to get up and do it all over again!

Litters abound in the barn right now. Tonight’s newest was Saga (x Weber’s Ron) - a heat lamp is on them babies to help keep off the chill ❄️

MSRBA fall show was this weekend - started out Friday night with Satin specialty and state Grand Showman competition and ending today. Elizabeth did awesome with her homegrown pigs - taking a Reserve in Show with her baby Satin Ticked Solid and a Best in Show with her American Golden solid. She also won 2nd place Cavy Grand Showman! ❤️

Chucks satins were literally all over the place - in 4 shows I feel like they all placed differently! But he did take home several best and best opposite varieties for his reds, coppers and blue! 💙

I’ve not posted much about but this kid knocked it out of the park tonight! District 8 Cavy Management winner and 2nd Place National Cavy Management winner!! ❤️. Congratulations to Elizabeth but also Austin & Marissa for their 3rd place National Intermediate judging placing! Thanks for showing up for these kids Bryan Shirk!

Chuck is so humbled to have been asked to donate a red Satin to the ASRBA auction at convention this year. This pretty lady is 5 months old and already intermediate weight. She’s entered at convention and we hope she’ll do amazing things both at the show table and for someone’s breeding program.

Auction will take place after the club meeting on Monday, 8 am.

Bit of a different post today - Elizabeth has finished her rabbit centered jewelry for the ARBA national convention youth exhibits. I suggested that she make an extra one in case somebody wanted one if they saw it.

Dad and I think she could charge $30 for the set but she thinks that outrageous for her jewelry art - what do you think? If not, what would you pay for it?

There are 3 red Satins ready to hop! The Junior Buck is entered at Convention - the other two were sold to a young man but hes now not able to take them home. They can come down with us but need a place to stay after Saturday. DM me with any questions.

A litter was born today that has been long awaited. Nikki is a doe that Chuck has done very well with on the table taking best of varieties and best of breeds.

But she’s not given one successful breeding. Chuck had a good talking to her before this match up and explained this is her last chance. She got 4 instead of the normal “3 strikes and out”. And now we have 3 beautiful fat bellied red babies! ❤️

People's jaws drop when they hear of our tiny rabbit program in the barn. For ages, Chuck and Elizabeth shared 21 holes, but now Dad's brought in 2 stackers and Elizabeth's downsized her Cal collection, so the red breeding program's slightly less petite. Fingers crossed these three reds give it a growth spurt!

The white cal patterned American sow had her pups last night. FOUR of them! Mom and all babies are healthy - each weighing roughly 4 ounces a piece. Two boars and two sows. 🤍🖤
