Lansing dog parents — here’s one of the biggest training secrets 🤫 that certified trainers use with their own dogs and their clients’ dogs:

They manage the environment! Yep — management is STILL effective training. 🙌

👉 Why? Because when we set up the environment so our dogs can make good choices, the unwanted behaviors aren’t even an option. The more they rehearse the behaviors we do want, the more we’ll see those behaviors in the future.

Mandy was so easy to work with in scheduling and our visits were productive and organized. Each week Mandy would send us a breakdown of what we would be working on with Tilly so that we could be informed and prepared. Mandy has such a kind and happy energy and Tilly responded so well to her! Tilly was adopted at 1 year old and had very minimal socialization prior to then. The change in her has been remarkable... 10/10 would absolutely recommend working with Mandy for any and all training needs!”

As part of my commitment to ongoing education as a dog trainer, I have decided to finally become a part of the Do More With Your Dog! Team. I am officially a Certified Trick Dog Instructor (CTDI)! With this new certification I am able to evaluate dogs and their humans for trick titles. If you’re looking for new ways to grow your bond with your companion while finding a mentally fulfilled dog, reach out for tricks training. I’d love to support you and your dog as you work together as a team to reach your goals.

When you mark and treat the exact moment your dog performs the behavior you cued, you give them clear information about what earned the reward.

👉 Remember a dog learns a behavior through repeated successes, so keep rewarding behaviors you like throughout daily life to see more of those behaviors in the future.

When big feelings meet big progress 💪

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Cardi, our almost 5-year-old sheltie, has a passion for barking at delivery trucks and dogs on leashes out the front window. Luckily, Mandy from Raise the Woof Dog Training swooped in to save the day, or rather, our sanity, with her expert guidance on how to deal with these triggers. With Mandy’s help, we’ve become better pet owners, learned to appreciate Cardi’s ruff personality, and even managed to teach her a few new tricks. She has an incredible ability to not only train dogs but also teach their owners how to be calm and confident. Her approach is patient, clear, and effective, and I’ve seen such a positive transformation in both Cardi and ourselves. Her program is meticulously organized, complete with handouts and written agendas.”

It’s TIIIIIIIME! ✈️🎄

I get it—life is busy, and it’s easy to just pull the carrier out right before you head out the door. But for some dogs, that sudden change can feel scary. 😱

👉 Start helping your dog get comfortable with their travel carrier now; don’t wait until travel day!

Give your dog time to hang out, explore, and relax inside so it feels safe and familiar when it’s time to go.

✨How to Train It✨

In a low-distracting environment, train gradually with short and positive sessions. Let your dog choose to go in on their own (never force them), toss in treats, or offer a favorite chew or lickable enrichment item. Practice this daily for 2-5 minutes each day; building up to relaxing on their own in the carrier for longer periods.

For me, I love using the Pupsicle from to make the space feel safe and help dogs learn that the crate, travel carrier, or x-pen are all fun, relaxing places to be!
