As part of our WAPPS/WPGA member perks for our State Grooming Association, we will be hosting one of our FREE all day classes specific to handling difficult dogs, geriatric and special needs pets!

These skills and this knowledge of canine structure, movement, interpreting body language and working alongside limitations in real time on the table are foundational to ALL Groomer’s of all skills levels, and all work models! 

While this all day class is free to State Grooming Association members, we will have a recording of the class available for a small fee to nom- members.
Our class is set for a Sunday in June- TBD, so stay tuned for an opportunity to attend this very important educational event!

On Saturday, January 7th at 12pm PST, the Washington Association Of Professional Pet Groomers is proudly presenting a free one hour online workshop: Planning For Accidents.

We work with live animals and a lot of potentially dangerous equipment - accidents can and do happen! It is up to us as professionals to handle any incident in a way that minimizes the impact for the pet, the groomer, and the client. This workshop will help you create a plan to prepare you for all the ways your day can go sideways.

The recording will also be available to WAPPG members in the member portal at www.wappg.org, as well as given to any state association who is interested.

This free workshop is available to ALL members of ALL state grooming associations!

If you have a list of topics you’d like to see discussed over one of our next Wisconsin state grooming association meetings, please plop them here.

I know that in this group- like so many others, we have been dealing with more and more shenanigans from clients in terms of entitled behavior and complete lack of accountability over pretty ridiculous behavior.
I’ve had groomers from around the state contact me via private message with proclamations of how fed up they are, how much financial damage they’ve had done to their business and how tired they are of fearing a bad review by holding someone accountable.
These are tough topics that we all have to navigate if we’re self-employed, and our employers have to tackle in order to stand by their staff and keep their businesses profitable.
Maybe if we talk about the trends we are seeing in our areas, it’ll also help us not feel so singled out.
I know I’m seeing these things here in the Madison areas, too.
And,,, maybe,,, we could all put our heads together to help salons come up with some policies or procedures from one salon to the next to help get these people in line in terms of no show policies and paying when services are rendered.

~Just a thought.

I’m kind of tired of seeing people like this get away with being dishonest or hurtful to our businesses by shop popping and guilt tripping or bullying groomers who love their job.

Some other topics that have been asked about and I think would be good discussion are:
💵fiscally sound salon policies to promote our patrons and highlight how well they care for their pets. (Discount programs, punch or digital membership cards, featuring client pets online, etc)
💎ways to continue our education and skill building when we can’t travel as much
⚖️navigating inflation on our goods and operating supplies & proper service pricing
📈daily efficiency procedures to support profitability
📊cost effective marketing strategies based on our demographic
📆streamlining our schedules and stress management
