Our Army x Yuni puppies are growing up fast—they’re already almost 5 weeks old and thriving! 🐾

We’ve just updated their pictures, so be sure to check them out on our page. Over the next few days, we’ll be conducting temperament evaluations for each pup and creating their scorecards. This important step helps us ensure the perfect match for every family during the puppy-picking process.

We know it’s exciting to bring your new puppy home, but there’s a good reason why responsible breeders, like us at Hughston German Shepherds, wait until puppies are at least 8 weeks old before sending them to their forever homes. 🏠

Here’s why this time is so important:

1️⃣ Learning Social Skills 🐾
Puppies learn critical social behavior from their mom and littermates, like bite inhibition, how to read social cues, and boundaries. These lessons help them grow into well-mannered, confident dogs.

2️⃣ Emotional Development ❤️
The bond with their mom provides security and helps puppies navigate the world as they grow. Removing them too early can lead to anxiety and behavioral challenges later in life.

3️⃣ Physical Development 💪🏼
Puppies are still growing rapidly in these early weeks. Staying with their mom ensures they get the proper nutrition and care during this vital period.

We prioritize the health and development of every puppy to ensure they grow into balanced, happy adults. The wait might feel long, but it’s worth it for the well-being of your future companion!

Meet Logan, one of the amazing pups from our Kanga x Rubi litter! This handsome boy is living his best life and absolutely loving the snow ! ❄️☃️

These pictures are from a couple weeks ago and it was the puppies first time seeing snow, and it was pure magic! Watching these little ones explore the snow with curiosity and excitement was a heartwarming reminder of the joy they bring into the world. From tiny paw prints to playful pounces, their wonder and energy are simply contagious.

🌟 Understanding German Shepherd Show Ratings 🌟

If you’ve ever heard terms like “SG” or “VA” when discussing German Shepherds, you might be wondering what they mean. These are show ratings awarded during conformation events, and they provide insight into a dog’s structure, temperament, and overall quality. Here’s a quick breakdown:

🔹 VA (Vorzüglich Auslese - Excellent Select):

The highest rating, reserved for exceptional dogs in the working class with superior structure, temperament, and pedigree. These dogs are exemplary in every aspect of the breed standard and typically have top breeding potential.

🔹 V (Vorzüglich - Excellent):

Awarded to dogs that meet the breed standard perfectly in terms of structure and movement. These dogs are outstanding but may lack the extra edge needed for a VA rating.

🔹 SG (Sehr Gut - Very Good):

This is the highest rating for dogs in the Youth Class (12-24 months) and is also given to adult dogs with very good structure and temperament but minor imperfections that keep them from the V category.

🔹 G (Gut - Good):

Dogs with good structure and temperament that meet the breed standard but may have more noticeable faults compared to SG or V-rated dogs.

🔹 A (Ausreichend - Sufficient):

Given to dogs that meet the minimum requirements of the breed standard but have significant faults in structure or movement.

🔹 U (Ungenügend - Insufficient):

The lowest rating, indicating serious deviations from the breed standard or faults that disqualify the dog.

Our gorgeous Army x Yuni puppies are officially 3.5 weeks old, and we are so excited to share their progress with you!

These little ones are growing up so fast and have already hit some exciting milestones. This week, we’re introducing them to potty training and puppy mush. Watching them explore new tastes and learn new skills is such a joy!

We’re thrilled to announce the repeat pairing of V Dior Vom Zwingerwalder and SG Kuma Vom Vashaus (Marcello daughter)! Their last litter was nothing short of extraordinary, producing pups with impeccable structure, exceptional temperaments, and that unmistakable WGSL workability we strive for.

This pairing brings together the best of both parents: Dior’s outstanding conformation and temperament and Kuma’s strong lineage as a Marcello daughter. Their previous pups have gone on to excel as loyal companions and promising working dogs, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what this pairing brings again.

Look at Yuno, all grown up! This handsome boy from our Baster x Rhaenyra litter is now 7 months old and thriving in his forever home in North Carolina. 🌟

We couldn’t be prouder of how well he’s maturing—such a big, strong boy with an incredible temperament! He’s the perfect mix of playful, loyal, and loving. ❤️

Her calm, level-headed temperament makes her a joy to be around, and she gets along beautifully with other dogs. Standing at nearly 70 pounds, Uganda boasts correct structure, a striking black mask, and a deep red long coat that turns heads wherever she goes.

And as a mom? Uganda is amazing! She’s gentle, attentive, and ensures her puppies are off to the best start in life. 🐾

Faith is a cornerstone of our breeding program, guiding everything we do. Every room in our kennel has a radio, all tuned to the same Christian station, filling the space with uplifting Gospel music throughout the day.

Gospel music brings a sense of peace and calm, not just for us, but for our dogs too. The soothing melodies and positive messages create a tranquil environment, which is especially beneficial for our moms and puppies. It’s our way of inviting God’s presence into the daily lives of our dogs and our work.
