The 2025 National Specialty is coming soon! This is the largest gathering of Berners and their people (500+)and this year it's in Gettsyburg, PA from April 27 - May 3, 2025. This year is extra special since it's the 50th annual Specialty.

The Rescue Gallery is now open and accepting entries!!
What is the Rescue Gallery? It's a display at the show site of stories and photos of rescues. The dogs can be living or have passed over the Rainbow Bridge and they can be from any year. You write the story of your special Berner and send us a photo and we do the rest. For a small fee to cover expenses($15-$28) you can receive a booklet of all the stories and articles from rescue groups, and a handmade pin with your dog's name.

If you want to enter more than one dog, please check with us so we can provide a discount.

Rescues need a BernerGarde # to enter. It's free and easy to get a BernerGarde # at www.BernerGarde.org. We're happy to help you get this # for your dog.

The deadline is March 16th, so start writing your story and choosing your favorite photo. Stories need to be about 500 words, since we're tight on space. We will print your photo for the display.
In addition to the display at Gettsyburg, we will post stories on this page, too, so those not able to attend in person can read all about these special rescues. There will also be a website of stories and photos.

This is a wonderful opportunity to share your story of your rescue. We know there have been thousands of rescues in the last couple of years, so we hope to have many special stories.

Alfie is a three year old, handsome, sweet young boy looking for a loving compassionate family to join. He is house trained and never destructive. Alfie does have some physical disabilities yet he is not in any pain and is able to walk without assistance. Alfie would do best in a home without any young children. He has lived successfully with other dogs however, if he is to have a canine sibling, the other dog needs to be on the calm side. Alfie is currently residing in Central New Jersey. What is does 'breed standard' mean?
"An AKC "breed standard" refers to a written document that outlines the ideal physical characteristics, temperament, and movement of a specific dog breed, serving as a guideline for breeders and judges to determine if a dog conforms to the breed's expected traits when evaluating them at dog shows; essentially, it defines what makes a dog of that breed "perfect" according to the American Kennel Club (AKC) standards."
