WARM UP PEN ETIQUETTE

If everyone just uses the Golden Rule—treat others as you would like to be treated—there is no need for further discussion or hard and fast rules.

Keep your eyes open, move over to avoid someone, communicate, and have some grace and humility.

Expect amateur or fearful riders who may not have complete control of their horses at open or youth races—Either stay out of their way, or offer to help!

Expect different warm up routines and the occasional c**t melting down at a futurity—Same solution, stay out of the way or offer to help!

Apologize if a near miss was your fault… and if it wasn’t—Check your ego at the door and move on.

CONFIDENCE & WORK ETHIC

Is it possible to reach true potential without a work ethic?

I thought a lot about this while working horses yesterday. I can not recall a horse that made a big time winner that did not have incredible work ethic. They also had intensity and confidence.

I believe the same is true as humans. Talent will only get you so far. To truly be really successful you must have an incredible work ethic.

I also believe that confidence comes from work ethic. When you put in the effort you know you have earned the rewards. I know when I have worked hard enough to be deserving of the benefits my confidence increases.

Common sense is an important skill to have in the horse world.

Think before you act.
Think before you speak.
If you don’t understand, ask.

There is a reason horse trainers do what we do and how we do it.

Trust us when we tell you not to do something, we learned the hard way and are trying to save you the train wreck experience.

With just being a few days away from daylight savings and hopes that warm weather will soon be returning for more than just a day…We are starting to get our lesson schedules completed. If you are a current student and sadly will not be returning or have a change in availability please let us know. We have a long wait list of new students waiting to come in. As always we will do our best to work with you on getting your students in but please be honest and courteous if you are not able to commit to the same day and time every week let us know and we can add you to our part time list and get you in when we have openings. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back this year and meeting some new students also!

One of the biggest things I see in peoples training is rushing the end process. Think of it this way…when baking a cake you take the time to follow the directions. Measuring everything out, carefully mixing all the ingredients, pouring it into the pan and placing it in the oven to bake to get your finished product. What happens if we don’t want to wait to taste the cake and we rush the last step and turn the oven temp up higher? We get a cake that’s burnt on the outside and not cooked in the center. If we finish the last step correctly and patiently wait though we get a cake that is fully cooked in middle, not burnt on the outside that we can truly enjoy. Training horses is the same concept. If after we take the time to do all the other steps correctly then at the end get impatient and rush we end up with a horse that’s not fully cooked in center, burnt, doesn’t have patience himself and we are not going to really enjoy. So take your time don’t rush the process! You don’t want to end up wasting all the other hard work that you have put into making a horse a good one just because you don’t want to wait any longer to enjoy your “cake”! Be patient and you’ll be glad you did and your horse will thank you😁
P.S. If your not much of a “baker” and need help give us a shout we would be glad to help you and your 🐴 reach the end result of being able to fully enjoy the ride ☺️
