January 3rd, 2024… haven’t bought any new cows. I’m doing good so far!

In the words of Forrest Gump- “calving season is like a box of chocolates…” or something like that.

Started with a very early bull calf, who I questioned if would make it, but now 3.5 months later is built like an F250.

I paired a Hetero Black bull with my hetero black cows thinking the less than 25% chance of red was in my favor. Wrong. All reds. Now HX doesn’t hurt my feelings but my girl who’s produced my top selling bull calf three years running had a red bull calf which smarted a bit.

Started this week with two girls left to calve and one gave birth late Tuesday to twins. I know the choices with a freemartin but I assure you, after bottle feeding a baby, Oglesby Farms will have a pasture pet.
