PiP's first video post below: Last year we fostered an adorable bonded pair of pugs and found them a great home together. This year, we took in our first bonded pair for permanent placement. Here are our adorable 14 year old shih tzu brothers, Rusty and MJ, cleaning each other.
Lovely Luna thinks it's fine if Ray accidentally walks into her. I wish all of the dogs felt that way.
We can not help but smile seeing our former foster pug, Molly living the high life Christmas Day with her adoptive siblings in her new home on the Long Island sound. Molly was given up to be euthanized almost 2 years ago at the age of 12 supposedly because her mother was moving to an apartment that didn't allow dogs. She was deaf, had a large growth hanging off her hind leg and dental problems, none of which affected her ability to love.
The reality is many people surrender or abandon senior dogs because they do not want to care for them in their old age. Some drop them at the shelter without looking back and walk out with a puppy. Fact is there should be a comprehensive list of people known to have neglected, abused, abandoned or surrendered an animal without good cause. All shelters and rescue groups must have access to this info!!
Joe is doing better. He now ventures out of his self imposed isolation in the mudroom/laundry room to socialize. He even slept in my daughter Nikki's room this weekend when she visited. Once I saw him start to walk down the hall to my bedroom but then he changed his mind. He loves to be petted and shoves his head into you if you stop petting him. Joe has been enjoying leash walks with our friend Matt who helps out frequently. We are very pleased with his progress. In the video below, Nikki is speaking in a high pitched voice because that seems to be what he can hear best.
