Well, I was finally able to be at my first ever foaling. It was such an incredible experience and I'll never forget it.
I thought I'd be by myself, but then my dear friend Merri Woo was there when I got to the barn last night. After I fluffed up Dulce's stall I sat down in the dark, while Merri took a nap in her car. As I sat there, Dulce started to pace and p**p. I could see her stare at me in the dark a couple times, so I just patiently sat there, trying to be as quiet as i could so she felt safe.
Then I started hearing peeing. She laid down and I assumed her water broke. She got back up, so I waited. I started to get nervous and super excited. I didnt want to miss it, but i didnt want to bother her. She turned a few times, peeing and finally back down she went and more water rushed out. Then came the grunts. As I snuck over to video for Sandi Imlay she got back up and walked outside. Well I'm sure that she didn't want me to see and I started to feel bad that I bothered her. I walked over to Merri and told her what was happening as she was sneaking into the barn. We went outside and p**f there was a beautiful filly chestnut.
That little is already a spitfire, but she a beautiful thing. We had to help get her back in the stall a couple times, got the door closed and then had to help get her to the teat. She wanted and was searching for the teats, but was looking everywhere, even the walls, and wasn't getting there fast enough lol. Once I was able to get her off my fingers and onto the teat, the sounds and relief were incredible.
I didnt get back home and into bed until jist after 3. I'm so tired, but I can't wait to get to the barn to see her today.
