While half-brother Hank was busy at a Scent Work trial Miss Charlie got to find some rats instead at the SchaSam Farms Barn Hunt trial in Stanwood, and she had a blast!!!

Over the course of 2 days Miss Charlie Bear (CH Sparta’s Going Mach 2️⃣ With Her Hair On Fire) not only earned her Barn Hunt Novice title but she did it with 2 High In Class awards, and on the 3rd run she was 2nd in class, what a way to finish a title ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥!!!
We had such a fun weekend and can’t wait until we get a chance to do it again!!! Thank you to all involved in an engaging weekend!!!

In his continued quest to do all the things Mr. Hank (GCHB Sparta’s Have Fun Stormin Da Castle BN RI CGCU CGCA ATT FDC TKI RATN SCN) got to step back in the show ring for the first time since early January and won back-to-back BOB!!
On Saturday only he competed in OH and won OH Group 3 and made the cut to 6 in the regular group 💖!!
On Sunday he got to run around the Juniors ring with one of his favorite kids, Easton, and they had a blast!!!
He then went on to one day at an AKC Scent Work Trial for only one day and not only did he Qualify in his first Advanced Container run but he took 3rd place in a large entry of talented dogs!!

This boy can do all the things and more, we are just so very proud of him and his absolutely amazing mother Christine, so many accomplishments yet to come ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥!!!

Our sweet and sassy Miss Charlie Bear (CH Sparta’s Going Mach 2️⃣ With Her Hair On Fire) stepped back in to the show ring in Cashmere WA with her super talented Junior Handler Makynlee!! This was their first time showing since early January and they had a phenomenal time!!! In the breed ring they picked up back to back BOS, on Sunday a BOBOH and an OH Group 1!!! While the breed ring was going on Sunday they were running back and forth to the juniors ring where Makynlee won Reserve Best Junior!!! We are so very proud of this young team!!! They have a bright future indeed 💖💖💖!! Charlie is out of our Top Gun litter (Thor x Schatzi) ❤️.

Some very important things to remember about the adolescent brain!

ADOLESCENCE:
As dogs go through adolescence, it’s safe to say things turn a little topsy-turvy! 🙃

If you’re currently at this stage and feeling like you’ve taken one step forward and two steps back, don’t panic! During this stage of life, there’s a lot going on in their busy little brains.

Here are three facts about the adolescent brain 🧠👇

1. The inhibitory neurons of the amygdala that help to dampen down emotional responses don’t fully mature until the END of adolescence.

2. Communication between the frontal cortex and amygdala, which is essential for skills training, decreases during adolescence.

3. Extinction memory is impaired during adolescence, so if your dog has a bad experience it’s much more likely to lead to a ‘hard wired’ fear memory.

Have patience and compassion as you support and guide your dog through this vulnerable period of brain development.

Ru (Sparta’s Cards On The Table, CGC, TKN, ATT) and his Mom Jen were very busy this week!

💜 Thursday was the Big Apple Working Group Club show and Ru won OH Best in Working Group Show Group 1
💛 Friday and Saturday were the New Brunswick Kennel Club AB show and designated specialty’s for the Black Russian Terrier Club of Northern New Jersey and he took WD/BOS (Friday) and BOB/BOBOH as well as being awarded an OH G4 (Saturday)
💜 Saturday had the BRTCNNJ concurrent specialty and Ru was awarded BISS
💛 Sunday he wrapped up the cluster with BOB/BOBOH BRTCNNJ designated specialty at the Bronx County Kennel Club AB show.

This team is AMAZING! So thrilled to watch them continue to grow!

Just like a fine wine he just keeps getting better and better! Our oh so handsome Mr. Dutch Man had an exciting year indeed!!!

⭐️ #7 NOHS qualifier with very limited OH showing
⭐️Multiple Group placements among lovely competition
⭐️Group winning, making him the first Sparta bred dog to win a group completely breeder-owner handled (second group winner overall)

Mr. Dutch had lots of fun in and out of the ring!!
He passed his CGC and played around in the rally practice ring!! He made his mamas very happy winning the regular Group in Klamath Falls in May making him the first Sparta bred dog to win a group completely Breeder-Owner handled!!! In August he Won the Bred-by Exhibitor Champions Sweepstakes at the Mt. Rainier Working Dog specialty!!! And perhaps most importantly he got to enjoy lots romps in the field with his fellow BRT housemates, always imparting joy and confidence to those around him!!!
We look forward to the exciting things Mr. Dutch Man will accomplish in 2024 as he heads into the show ring with Luke!!!!

Our Majestic Hanky Panky had quite the exciting year!!!
⭐️ #1 NOHS BRT Qualifier
⭐️ #5 All Breed for all of 2023 with limited showing
⭐️ #8 Breed for all of 2023 with limited showing
⭐️Multiple Group placements amongst huge competition
⭐️Multiple OH RBIS & OH BIS
⭐️Multiple new backend titles to qualify for his Versatility Dog title, which will make him Sparta’s first VD (once approved)!!!

Hank has been a busy boy running around the Juniors ring with Easton, Makynlee, and Johanna sometimes on the end of the lead, picking up multiple wins and placements. He has been laying down the foundation to start Nosework trialing, running the 4H agility program with Makynlee, and sooo much more!!! With limited showing Hank has now finished 2 years in a row as a Top 10 qualifier in both Breed and All-Breed, completely Owner-Handled!!!
To say we are proud of this dog, his family, and all of their accomplishments is an understatement to be sure!!!
Hank will be doing very limited shows in 2023 as he focuses more on performance titles!!!

Ru and his amazing human Jen have been very busy this past year both in and out of the show ring!!!
Ru and Jen are used to showing in an area without any competition, but when the opportunity arose they were able to pick up a wonderful BOB win from the classes over ranked specials!!! They also have picked up multiple OH group placements, and to top it off Ru got to be piloted by Jen’s niece in the Junior’s ring where they picked up a first place in their class and showed in the Peewee’s ring with Jen’s son!!! So super special!!
In performance they have picked up 2 legs in Rally, their GGCU and CGCA, AKC temperament title, and have been competing in a new Rat hunt sport called Happy Ratters where they have been excelling!!!
We are so proud of this family and our sweet & goofy boy, Rurik!!!! ❤️

This beautiful sassy lady has been working on all sorts of things in and out of the show rings.
She finished her AKC CH in style at just over 12 months of age, picking BOB from the Bred-by class twice over multiple ranked specials, and a BOS from the Bred-by class. The icing on the cake is she has always been shown (save one time there was a juniors ring conflict) by her youngest co-breeder, Makynlee, making her the first dog Makynlee has finished. So proud of these two young ladies!! She is now showing as a special on and off with Makynlee at the other end of the leash and will be making some more appearances in the juniors ring!!!
Outside of the show ring Charlie is building the foundations for K9 Nosework competition, dabbling in rally and Barn hunt, and having so much fun!!! Can’t wait to see what the future may hold for this charming lady!!! 💞💞

This lovely lady spent most of the year just growing up and having fun! She was introduced to barn hunt and other fun activities!!
She also did get to come out to the shows and play from time to time, and picked up a BOS from the Bred-by class over a special in May as well as a BOB from the Bred-by class at the Working Dog Specialty in August over a ranked special!! To top it off she picked up a Group 3 in the Working Dog puppy and juniors sweepstakes!!! Way to go baby girl!!! 💖💖

This sweet girl finished her CH going BOS from the Bred-By class multiple times for 4 and 5 point majors at just over 12 months of age!!! She picked up a Bred-by Exhibitor Group 3 in Albany in April and her first day showing as a finished CH she picked up a lovely Group 2 in big competition!!! She even got to run around the juniors ring with Johanna ❤️!
She is now retired from the show ring and enjoying her best life with her adoring family, Geoff and Brooke!!!

As we ring in the New Year it is time to look back on 2023 and celebrate!! It has been a year of ups and downs, as is the case most years, but there has been no shortage of laughter and of course fun with our wonderful dogs and chosen family!!!

We start off celebrating the PNW Junior Crew!! What a year these 3 have had despite participating in a relatively limited number of shows!
Easton and Hank have continued to grow as a team! It has been rewarding to watch Easton’s confidence grow as he gets more comfortable in this arena!! He is currently the 2nd ranked junior in the breed and has only been to a handful of shows the whole year!
Johanna and Schatzi picked up a few wonderful class wins and placements the first part of the year, and Johanna and JJ also got to play in the Junior ring picking up a first place. Johanna is currently the 3rd ranked Junior in the breed and like Easton only showed at a handful of shows!
Makynlee and Master Bogie were total rockstars in 2023!!! Makynlee picked up her first All-Breed Best Junior and her first Best Junior at the Working dog specialty in August!! To say we are proud of this young lady is an understatement!! This was her first year competing in Open Intermediate and we have to remind ourselves this talented lady was only 12 years old!! My what her future may hold!!! Makynlee is currently the 1st ranked Junior in the breed and has even spent time ranked in the Top 10 juniors for Working Dogs!!! 💖💖💖

We had a great opportunity to join one of our amazing K9 Nosework instructors for some vehicle searches in between running circles at a dog show!!! This was Charlie’s first time doing vehicle searches and first time doing searches in a novel environment!! This was Hank’s first time doing searches in a novel environment, he is definitely ready to start trialing!!!!
Charlie is from our Top Gun litter (Thor x Schatzi) and is not yet 2 years old, she is CH Sparta’s Going Mach 2️⃣ With Her Hair On Fire.
Hank is from our Princess Bride litter (Bogie x Schatzi) and is 3 yrs old, he is GCHB CH Spartas Have Fun Stormin Da Castle BN RI FDC CGCU CGCA TKI ATT RATN.
So very proud of both of these dogs, it is just so amazing to watch them grow in this sport!!!

🌟New Title Alert🌟
Christine and Mr. Hank picked up their Barn Hunt Novice title this past weekend in WA!!
Then the next day he moved up to pick up his first Barn Hunt Open Q with a First Place, going a full minute faster than the second place dog!!
Way to go Hank, Christine, Makynlee, and Easton!!! Hank is ranked Top 5 in Breed and All-Breed with only a handful of shows since May, and he is the most back-end titled dog in the Top 5!! So proud of this team!!

Canine Chronicle Stats are out and we couldn’t be more proud! Not one, not two, BUT 4 Sparta dogs grace the top 20! 2 of those are in the top 10! Breed Placements- #2, #6, #15 and #19. What makes this even more special is all are breeder-owner handled or owner handled. Go Team Sparta!!!

But fancy flying they did!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Our girl Charlie “CH Sparta’s Going Mach “2️⃣” With Her Hair On Fire” finishes her AKC Championship this past weekend in Lynden WA picking up yet another BOB from the Bred-by class with her junior handler Makynlee the Magnificent!!! She finished with multiple BOB and multiple BOS wins from the Bred-by class!!
So over the moon proud of this amazing duo and we can’t wait to see what their future will hold!!
Watch out world they are going to Clean’Em and Fry’Em!!!

Charlie is out of our Top Gun litter (Thor x Schatzi) and joins her sister JJ as the second champion from this litter at just 14 months old, whoop whoop!!!
She is also now the 6th champion out of our sweet girl Miss Schatzi, joining Dread, Hank, Poppy, Mosca, and JJ💖!!
