SPA DAY!
You may have seen our previous post showing how Cru and I used cooperative care training to get his bandage changes done throughout his recovery, but cooperative care isn’t just for injured pets or animals with medical needs!
In this video you see Cru getting his nails trimmed without any restraints or stress for him. Cooperative care training can be super beneficial for all pets in their normal grooming care such as nail trims, bathing, or teeth brushing.
Not only does this training make these necessary tasks less stressful for your pet, it makes them less of a chore for you as well!
On bad weather days or days when you’re feeling under the weather yourself, it can be pretty hard to get in the exercise and mental stimulation an active dog like Cru needs! That’s why enrichment like this feeder shown in the video is so important and helpful!
Enrichment is anything that’s keeping our animals stimulated mentally and physically and allowing them to exhibit natural behaviors. This feeder here has a button which I can place anywhere in the house and if Cru hits it, the feeder will dispense some of his dinner.
Cru has only just got the hang of the feeder so we kept the button pretty close but eventually I can move the button to other rooms or behind obstacles to make this more challenging for him.
This allows Cru to get in some extra exercise indoors when I’m not able to take him out for a run and also allows him to work that big brain of his at the same time!
Cru is such a smart guy and has learned many new skills with us through positive reinforcement!
In this video you can see him showing off a few of those such as sit, down, target, paw, and laying on his left side.
Some other skills he has been practicing include leash manners, car manners, muzzle training, stay, and heeling.
Cru is going to be a great companion for an active owner when he’s ready for adoption!
I do believe yall have donated enough bandage supplies to get Cru through till his leg is healed! Thank you so much to everyone that donated it’s a HUGE help!
If you would like to support Cru in any other way you can also find dog food, cleaning supplies, and enrichment items in our Amazon wishlist linked below.
Please enjoy this adorable video of Cru discovering cicadas for our appreciation. 😁

Cru Bandage Change!
This guy has a long way to go to be fully healed but he’s come so far! Part of what has made Cru such an excellent patient is called cooperative care training. Cooperative care training is where we teach an animal to do behaviors or “tricks” that allow them to be willing participants in their health care.
As you can see in this video Cru knows several commands that help me to be able to change his bandage all by myself without any restraints on him. He is not a huge fan of it but he is actively choosing to interact with me and allow me to change his bandages the entire time which allows him to feel as little stress as possible.
This is a daily occurrence for Cru while we’re still working on getting his leg wound healed up so that he can go up for adoption. We’re currently going through one roll of gauze and half a roll of vet wrap daily.
If you would like to help provide bandage supplies for Cru you can find all of the gauze and vet wrap we need in our Amazon wishlist below!

Rubeus Weigh In
Rubeus was put out on the streets by his previous owner who no longer wanted him in early December. When we found him he was very underweight and nervous about most things. Since then he has blossomed into such a wonderful dog that anyone would be lucky to have this guy really is a unicorn! Once he is neutered and gastropexyed he will be ready for adoption! If you’re interested in adopting Rubeus you can email us at [email protected] subject line “Adopting Rubeus”. If you’re interested in making a donation to help us support Rubeus on his journey you can send it to our Venmo with the note “Rubeus”

Rubeus
Rubeus reaction when we told him he’s heartworm and fecal negative😁 Memphis is a huge hot spot for heartworms and it is so so important that all dogs and cats be on preventative year round. Did you know it costs more to treat heartworms one time than the average owner will spend on a lifetime of preventative for their pet? It’s not an easy or fun process either which is why we’re so happy for this lucky pup!
