Master Wolf with Shadow Husky Rescue has an owner surrender unfortunately was thrown in jail and her husky hauled off to the kill shelter a couple of weeks ago! Luckily a Sister In law had the heart to pull 3 year old Reign out of the kill shelter before they had Euthanized her! No fault of Reign that her owner had made some mistakes in life and she would have paid the price! Here is what her Sister In Law had to say~

Hi there,
“ Thank you for all the work that you do. I know it is a hard time with so many huskies in need. Unfortunately I am reaching out with one of those Huskies in need. My sister-in-law was arrested and her dog was taken to the shelter. We picked her up because we don’t want to risk her being euthanized however we cannot hold on to her. I only have a small patio so it is not ideal for her and I also have cats in my home that are not used to dogs even though Reign is good with cats. Reign is 3 years old and fully vetted and up to date with vaccines and is Spade.

She is sweet and friendly. Good with people, dogs, kids and seems good with cats too. I am in San Gabriel but can transport her. She wants to be around people all the time and does get a little separation anxiety. “

Thank you to the San Diego Humane Society for backing this important legislation!

Five animal welfare bills sponsored by San Diego Humane Society take effect Jan. 1, 2026, strengthening protections for animals and expanding access to veterinary care statewide.

🐶 Cracking down on puppy mills:
➡️AB 519 bans pet brokers in California, shutting down third-party sellers from exploiting loopholes that have enabled inhumane breeders to continue profiting off unsuspecting consumers.
➡️SB 312 requires dog importers to submit electronic health certificates, which will be publicly available, to the CA Department of Food and Agriculture within 10 days of shipment so consumers and law enforcement can identify unethical breeding and transport.
➡️AB 506 voids deceptive online pet-sale contracts, requires transparency about an animal’s origin and mandates refunds if a puppy becomes unavailable.

🩺 Expanding access to veterinary care:
➡️AB 516 allows Registered Veterinary Technicians and veterinary assistants to perform any medical task not prohibited by law, helping clinics expand care and deliver services more efficiently.
➡️SB 602 allows RVTs in designated shelters to provide essential care, such as vaccines and parasite treatment, without a veterinarian onsite, improving access in underserved communities.

These new laws reflect our commitment to humane, equitable solutions for animals and the people who love them. Together, these bills will protect families, improve care and shut down inhumane practices across California. Learn more about our advocacy work at https://sdhumane.org/tag/advocacy/.

12/24 Matching donation update! We still need $1,000 to get another $1,000 match to cover the balance of Bruce’s billl. Every $1 will be matched.
💥Update Dr Pike called at 5:30 pm to debrief after Bruce’s fluoroscopy procedure afternoon. He does not have urine reflux into his kidneys! But his left ureter is still dilated now to the size of an aorta …moving the position of his ureters is a future consideration. UC Davis will determine if aggressive contractility of the ureter will be needed. Also a tissue sample of his kidney was taken. That together with the advanced blood and urine analysis will be completed in 5 days. Thank you for your prayers and amazing support for Bruce🙏

🚨Donor match before XMas🚨💲4,000 RESCUE never 🛑 stops please make a secret Santa gift for Bruce. We waited for 7 vets to coordinate schedules for today! At 8am I dropped Bruce off at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital for a fluoroscopy followed by potential surgery to move his ureters on his bladder. Our Christmas is all about Bruce and his post op recovery. RESCUE is usually quiet during the holidays. Today Bruce needs a Christmas miracle AGAINST ALL ODDS. We have a donor who will match $1 for $1 the first $2,000 raised by 12/25❗️If you see this 🎅Santa Claus has already checked his list twice knows who has been naughty and nice. You are winding down for the year, Traveling to your Christmas destination, Started prepping your festive holiday meal. Lights have been strung. Presents have been wrapped and are under the tree. Bruce was born at the Imperial County animal shelter on 8/23/23. His mother gave birth to 7 pups. After 5 died, on 9/25 SHR swooped the remaining two Bruce and Dori plus the Mama into our care. On 10/16 at 8 weeks old, Bruce was rushed to VSS with bladder stones in his urethra, which were pushed into his bladder and removed. Bruce has been diagnosed with active kidney disease. The vets are not sure if his disease is congenital, but we are going to get to the root cause hopefully today. Dori, Bruce‘s sister was nearly adopted but at the last minute we canceled and she has been by Bruce side ever since living in their own little magical world. Bruce does not know yet that he is ill. Believe in miracles for Bruce ✨If you see this post after the joyous holidays once all is said and done can I ask that before December 31, please make that final tax deductible donation on Bruce’s behalf because he really needs you.

This year has been 24/7 nonstop trying to make a meaningful impact on the husky rescue landscape by rescuing as many huskies from shelters and providing a loving sanctuary for many of the un-adoptable and special needs huskies. Year to date in 2025 we have covered the cost of 21 spays/neuters in addition to our regular adoption program which also provides routine medical care and oversight with medical costs exceeding $90,000 YTD. To name only a few Rio and Apa each underwent successful entropion surgery. We managed the medical care of Azurea and Otto both involved in separate serious automobile accidents, including a limb amputation for Otto and got them each adopted into the most amazing loving homes. We had major baseball sized lumps removed from Juni, Sapphy, and Merlin, and hernia surgery on Sapphy too. We adopted out blind Moonflower and have been providing chemotherapy and post chemotherapy oncology treatment for Luna. Additionally, for one family of three from the Imperial County Animal shelter Misty Dori and Batman Bruce, received into SHR on September 25, 2025, medical costs have exceeded $21,000. 17 week old Bruce will have surgery on 12/23 with 7 scheduled vets at UC Davis the #1 (kidney vet) in the USA. We love seeing the transformation of the huskies we rescue AND of their adopters. What keeps us doing more is the year round feedback and support we receive from you! I have been opening holiday cards and reading what many are saying which humbles me. Here is one: “Another year draws to a close. I wanted to reach out and express my deepest thanks for the incredible work you do, day in and day out. Rescuing is a monumental act of pure love and dedication. Thank you for giving the gift of a safe and happy happy life to so many Huskies this year. I hope your holidays bring as much joy, love and happiness as you bring to so many that passed through Shadow Husky Rescue.” And another: “Dear Tim and Liz thank you for all your RESCUE accomplishments each year you have saved so many precious lives.” In 2025 we celebrated 10 years of Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc., 18 years of knowing my other half who means everything to this rescue, and 21 years of loving and caring for huskies! Sending much 💖 to you and your huskies! ~Tim

Master Wolf with Shadow Husky Rescue has a 2 year old Owner Surrender husky named Rocket. Rocket is out of San Pedro Ca. Here is what the owner had to say~

Hi Tim,
“We had no idea of the prey drive. We obviously didn’t get any information from the South LA Shelter before or after adopting him and it’s heartbreaking what’s resulted. After talking with many rescues now, we understand what happened and why. And that he just can’t be trusted with cats
at no fault of his own.
We have the cats separated from him the best we can, but it’s not a permanent solution. All three animals are having a hard time with being put into rooms and isolated for hours at a time while the other animal(s) get to be out until we switch again. I can tell it’s causing stress on them and us. We see them as family members and want a life where we live with our pets all together. Without fear of someone opening a door and a cat being harmed. Rocket does great with other large dogs and all ages of kids.

We took the responsibility for Rocket when we adopted him and I truly am devastated we are breaking our promise to him that we were his forever home. But we also made a promise to our cats and we had them first. I am trying so hard to find Rocket a new home where he can thrive, and we will keep trying. Just looking for any leads on suitable homes.
We had no idea of the prey drive. We obviously didn’t get any information from the shelter before or after adopting him and it’s heartbreaking what’s resulted.

For every animal who has learned to be brave alone, tonight we hope harder.
Hope for warmth beyond the cold. Safety beyond one night. And a family who chooses them again and again.
