One of my clients is having to rehome their pup due to traveling/living in another state several months out of the year. Here is what they say about sweet Nala.

We are looking for a new home for our sweet pup Nala. She is about 2.5 yrs old. We have had her for about 1 year and a half. She is up to date on all her shots and chipped. She attends doggie day care 3 days a week and is the best socialized dog I have seen at the dog park and at day care. She would thrive in a home with another dog to play with. She is great with cats and kids, kennel trained and walks perfectly on a leash or in the heel position. Her recall is top notch. Potty trained and lets you know when she has to go out. She does not get on the furniture nor does she chew things. She can be left along all day if need be. Her quirks: She was a rescue and we are not sure what her previous life traumas were but she shakes in the car 100% of the time. She will get in fine, but she hides her head under the seat and will not come out until you are at your destination. She won't let you cut her nails. She startles easily, like her shadow startles her and the sound of her own nails on the hardwood startles her. She is scared of new people in her space. She doesn't really bark, but she shakes in her kennel and growls. With the right confident dog sibling I think she would learn her confidence. I have never seen her instigate or start a fight even when other mean dogs are egging her on at the dog park. She walks away and comes right when you call her. We travel all summer and because of her hating being in the car, we can't take her with us. We would absolutely be a resource for you if you needed a dog sitter at any time. We love her, but she would thrive in a home with other pets. Please text Andrew (707)326 0922

This is just the cutest. Biscuit is up for adoption with the Idaho Humane Society

Trying to get pictures of puppies is usually pretty entertaining, but this little guy took it to another level!

Say hello to Biscuit, a cuddly active pup with energy to spare! He's been exposed to other dogs and kids and is said to be good with both.

He is DEAF, so please do your research. Deaf dogs have special needs but can be amazing pets!

Is your doggo slowing down more and more as they age?

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common conditions seen in aging dogs. At least one in five dogs develop the disease in their lifetime. It’s the leading cause of chronic pain and can have a significant impact on quality of life, not only for your pup, but for you (and those caring for your pup).

While Osteoarthritis is not curable, the earlier we address it, the better impact it can have on your dogs life.

At Treasure Valley Canine Rehab, we specialize in senior dogs. Contact us to see how we can help your aging and senior dog today!

Please come out for the rally if you can.

Please come out for the rally if you can.

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture has announced that, “Effective November 1st, 2022, ISDA will be inspecting for h**p and h**p-derived animal feeds and remedies. These products are not legal in Idaho, and if found on or after November 1st, 2022, will be subject to a stop sale and further action from the department.”

This action has been initiated despite:
- These products being on the market with no action taken for OVER 5 YEARS
- No significant issues where negative effects on animal safety has been reported

This action:
- May result in job losses for people employed in Idaho
- WILL cause significant economic impact to Idaho-based businesses, both large and small
- WILL result in harm to animals as owners turn to human products or products containing THC (all h**p and h**p-derived products certified by the National Animal Supplement Council have a ZERO TOLERANCE for even trace amounts of THC)

We have sold, promoted, and used these products on our own pets for over 5 years and seen how effective they can be for long trips, general anxiety, pain management and many other purposes.

We at Bark n Purr are working with the NASC, Bill Bookout, who has met with the ISDA and has made no progress. We are now turning to a a rally to bring this issue to the forefront in Idaho so we can help identify a responsible solution to the problem without such drastic action with far-reaching consequences.

Date: September 24th, 2022
Time: 1:00-4:00pm
Location: Bark n’ Purr Boise - 1036 S Vista Ave Boise, ID 83705
More information can be found by clicking the link in our bio.

We hope to see you there, help us make this change in Idaho.

Currently I am fostering her and she is pregnant. After she is done whelping and the puppies are ready, mama and they will all be up for adoption. She is loving spending time here and has already fit in really well. I want her to have the best home.

Keep your eyes peeled for more pics and PUPPY PICTURES! ❤️

We do dry needling now!

That’s right, Dr. Chris Huxley has been dry needling over 6 years and is certified in the state of Idaho to perform dry needling.

🐶What is dry needling?

While the name alone may sound intimidating, dry needling (DN) is safe, and often an effective technique for patients with certain musculoskeletal presentations.

🐶How is it performed?

A thin monofilament needle is inserted into the skin and treats underlying muscular tightness, restrictions, and trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.

🐶Is this acupuncture?

It’s important to note DN is not the same as acupuncture. It uses similar tools, but that’s where the similarities end. Dry needling is rooted in Western medicine and focuses on the evaluation of pain patterns, posture, movement impairments, function and orthopedic tests.

🐶What is the goal of Dry Needling?

To reduce pain, decrease trigger points and make them inactive, and restore function.

🐶Does this procedure hurt?

The answer is yes and no. Let me explain why:
The needles used for DN are much much smaller in diameter compared to needles used to draw blood or perform injections. Therefore, sometimes your dog can feel the initial insertion of the needle, but with a skilled professional, this sensation is significantly reduced. With a tight muscle, there can be a twitch (which is a trigger point starting to release) and the muscles can feel sore after. Most of the pups are too busy licking peanut butter to even notice. 😂

🐶Is dry needling right for my dog?

This is a great question.
Every single dog is different (structurally, personality, muscle tightness and aches, age, etc) and all of this plays a role into the benefit level of needling. Most dogs are appropriate and respond really well, however, there is always a needle in a haystack 🙃

This. 😍

This right here is why I am in love with what I do.

Sometimes, people never figure out what they were meant to do in life. And, although it took a little while for me to find it, I am one of the lucky ones to know this is what I was supposed to be doing all along.

Never a bad idea to stop and smell the roses. Or in Mia’s case, every blade of grass, pile of poo, and bug that walks by.

Remember, now that’s it’s getting colder ❄️ ⛄️ 🥶🥶you may notice your furry friends are a little stiffer. Cold does affect osteoarthritis, and movement and exercise helps decrease pain associated with osteoarthritis.

If you want your pup and a seasonal plan to help them have less pain in the winter months, shoot me a message.

We are doing a 3 session special for $400! 😯😍 🐶

Edie loves working with her mama!!
This is Edie’s second visit and she does anything her mom asks. 🥰

Today, she had a lot of fun while working on core control and hind leg weight bearing.

Also, by fun, I mean, she got a lot of treats.

Side note: In the back, that’s Sophie, a 17 YEAR OLD husky! She is chillin 😎 on the PEMF bed which helps with decreasing pain and inflammation and increasing circulation and accelerating healing.

Told you to stay tuned for the results! Chicory is a dog again!!

Her and her parents put a lot of work into her therapy sessions and look at her go again. So proud of her 🥰

Are you asking yourself…

What should I do on this fine Saturday afternoon? 🤔

Look no further, STRETCH WITH YOUR PUP!

Just like us humans, some dogs hip flexors get really tight based on the position they sit or sleep in and just like stretching is important for us, it’s important for our furry friends too.

Hip stretching is important because

🐾 it increases mobility of the hips

🐾 it increases flexibility of the spine

🐾 it decreases pain associated with osteoarthritis and hip injuries

🐾 it improves the health of the low back, hips, stifles, and ankles

🐾 it decreases risk of iliopsoas strains and tears (which can take months to heal)

🐾 it prepares muscles safely for harder exercises and activities

🐾 it’s adorable 🥰

How to stretch the hip flexors:
1. get your dog to place their front paws on a stable surface (couch, bed, chair against the wall, etc)
2. Place a treat by their nose just out of reach and let them lean forward without stepping up
3. Make them work for the treat, meaning, don’t give it to them right away, and they will hold that stretch longer.
4. The more forward they lean, the deeper the stretch.
5. Do 3-5 reps of 15-30 seconds

Tips:
I close my hand around the treat and let my dog slowly nibble at it OR you can use a spatula with peanut butter and let them lick it off

Also, most dogs won’t want to initially hold the stretch that long, so 5-7 seconds is good and lots of praise!
