The hoof capsule is essentially a strong, flexible box!
It protects and has the ability to distort and compensate!
It becomes vulnerable if it doesn’t get enough stimulation!
It weakens and allows pathogens to invade if it doesn’t get correct nutrition!
It was never intended to be nailed onto/into!
It doesn’t just grow from the top down but can also compensate by thickening in most directions!
It is made up of several different coriums that react to stimuli in the environment and they act independently locally!
The coronary band is very elastic and joins onto the frog, which helps the haemodynamic function as the hoof engages/disengages with the ground!
The white line is just the thickness of the sole and forms the connection between the sole and the inner wall- extremely strong and tight when healthy!

Hay! It’s that time again… time to Pay For the Hay.

Our 2023 hay bill is going to be approximately $30,000 to feed the herd. That’s about 120 tons to feed 28 horses.

Last year we raised 80% of our $24,000.00 feed bill through direct public contributions from supporters like you. Every little bit helps, and we can’t do it without you.

You can donate right here on Facebook, Instagram, on our website (www.idahohorserescue.org), on PayPal ([email protected]), or via a good old fashioned check mailed to our office (890 E Franklin Rd Ste 202 Meridian, ID 83642)

If you can’t donate, interacting with our content helps us in countless ways. Every ❤️, comment, follow and share assists in getting word out that IHR is here providing a necessary service to the community. Sharing is caring.

Thanks 😊

From our grantees at Idaho Horse Rescue

Honey is an 18 year old mustang mare who was rescued from severe abuse and neglect. She was abandoned with a web halter on her face that grew into her flesh as she matured, she bears the scars to this day. She was also severely physically abused before her arrival at IHR and remains extremely wary of humans. Because of her distrust of humans she will be a lifelong resident. She is healthy and doing well. Enjoys being free to be horse everyday.

Sherman & Chief are both in their 20s now, and are doing well overall. Sherman is experiencing some moderate/severe arthritis and is on a new drug called Pentosan Polysulphate, which is helping quite a bit. Each injection costs around $60, and they need to be administered every 6 weeks. Your generous grant from last year allowed us to provide the special care and medicine Sherman needs. Chief is doing well, we keep him in boots during the day, and his laminitis has been resolved for about a year. We are hopeful that he will remain sound and comfortable with his boots and supplement program.

The support we receive from DDAF helps us make sure our senior horses are well cared for. Many of them require special feed, medicine and other treatments. Thank you DDAF ❤️

Pony, a 29 year old mustang is very healthy, spunky and loving despite her age. She requires very little in the way of supplementation (senior feed once a day), and is sound and happy.

Hey all! Idaho Horse Rescue needs your help. Our 27 acres is being encroached upon by developments on three sides!

One of our fence lines is adjacent to a busy park/walking path, and it has forced us to invest in some fencing with ‘no climb’ crimps to keep people from feeding/interfering with the herd.

As most horse owners know, the possible consequences of horses being interfered with over fences can be devastating, not only to the horse, but to the humans as well.

IHR spent $3,000 to build the fence, which was not included in our 2023 budget.

You can help us pay for the fence by donating right here, on Instagram, our website or via a good, old fashioned check mailed to our office:
