HOLDS

"Stray" hold is a 72 hour hold, before the hold is up the dog will be evaluated and the then either listed as Adoptable, added to the E-List, or put on an additional hold. The dog will not be allowed to be taken out for a "Meet and Greet". You can take down the A number and go to the front desk and ask for more information and possibly put your name on him/her as interested. "Hold & Notify" status means some sort of identification has been found and MCACC is using the information they have on file to contact the owners. Unfortunately information is not always updated by the owners. I believe the hold is between 72 and 120 hours. If the owners are found and they surrender the dog then the hold is over. "Owner Surrenders" are considered "Brown Holds". They are usually given a 24hr hold time, but can be shorter as the owner has given up all rights to the dog and he/she has becomes a ward of the shelter. The dogs are evaluated and then changed to Adoptable or added to the E-List, or put back on "Brown Hold". Their information is not loaded on Petharbor and there is nothing online to even show these dogs as being there. The state of Arizona has a law stating that if someone finds a dog and holds him/her for 6 days, while looking for the owner, they then become the owner. The dog is then turned in as Owner Surrender Stray. E-LIST

FASA (Friends of the Arizona Shelter) Showcases the dogs that are on the E-List. You can click on the Friends of the Arizona Shelter picture on the video thread to follow the status of the dog or pledge to help. The FASA link is the place where a Courtesy Pull can be requested if you want to have the dog removed from the list for the day so you can go meet the next day. These are precious so if you do request and get one on the thread please go meet the dog. This is BEEEEEAUTIFUL girl, Almond at mcacc west🌻🌷…and this babe cannot take a bad picture📸 Legit impossible!
Almond is about 9 years old and about as good as it gets. She has no special requirements for adoption and we can see why. This girl is polite, affectionate, potty trained, kennel trained, walks well on leash, takes treats gently, and loves a good brushing❤️ She does not appear reactive to other pups at all, but she would still need all the recommended time to decompress and slow and safe introductions to other pets.
We do not know how she ended up at our shelter, but we do know we love her and that she more than deserves an amazing 2nd chance at the best life. Almond is a DREAM⭐️

Update: In foster❤️

URGENT‼️‼️ Elisted for 8/13 for low level bite that happened like 5 years ago🙄
This is sweet boy, Major at mcacc East🫶🏼😭❤️ Major is about 6 years old and was found as a stray about a week ago. We don’t know how long he was out on his own. He was adopted from the West shelter last year. He used to be over 100 pounds and he could hardly move but now he’s at about 77 pounds. He seems much happier, but he still has more weight to lose , and should probably see vet to make sure that he has nothing going on with his thyroid.

This boy needs a forever home. He is super easy-going, potty trained, takes treats gently, allows grooming, walks great on the leash and he’s relatively independent so he wouldn’t be a super clingy dog. But he’s also very sweet. 
He does not appear to be reactive to other dogs, but how he is socially is unknown at this time. The staff and volunteers absolutely adore the dog and we would hate to see the story end this way. He’s so deserving of forever and we hope we can find it this time.

Update: Adopted!

URGENT: Last week, we featured Rowlf, a scared and stressed dog in need of a home. His situation has not improved. Even after being moved to a larger kennel with more peace and quiet, he continues to deteriorate every day. He lunges at the glass and bares his teeth at people who walk by. He needs an outlet by August 11 who can give him the time and resources required to care for his mental health outside of the shelter.

Rowlf needs an adopter who is willing to work with him on his avoidance and fear. With familiar staff members, he allows pets and will sometimes take treats. But his distrust of new people makes it difficult to see his true personality.

Meet the CUTEST pair of BONDED brothers, Remy and Gus Gus 🫶🏼 (Remy-black and Gus-gray)…and they bring a new meaning to brotherly love❤️
Remy and Gus are said to be about 7 years old (likely siblings) and came in as strays. But after spending time with them today, they are absolutely bonded and we would love to keep them together. Unfortunately, it is not mandatory at mcacc.
So it’s up to us! These boys are so affectionate with each other and they can share food together.
Remy and Gus appear potty trained, allowed grooming, they take treats gently, and they know sit. They are a little shy at first, but extremely sweet. Sensitive boys💓 They do not appear reactive to other dogs, but they would need the proper time separated and very slow and safe introductions to other dogs. Kids would most likely be ok as long as they are polite with animals and the intros were slow.

**UPDATE: We have learned that Hank's original owner passed away about 5 years ago and Hank was rehomed but no contact info was available for who he was given to**

This is 12-year-old Hank. He was found in Phoenix near 15th Ave and Beaubien Dr. His chip, however, goes back to a senior citizen in Mesa with a disconnected phone. Spread the word so this old man get get to where he is supposed to be.
