Cuddles totally remembered his mommy. They also made a donation which will be put on rescuing another bird. And yes! I was in tears.

I’m writing this in notebook knowing I’m going to want to change it a lot. I received a call from another rescue (and they are a good rescue) it appears that Cuddles is their bird. They adopted him to a family in Miami 6 months ago. They knew it was him from my posts and his video. They also sent me links to videos of him when they had him. They are asking that I return him to them. Not because they want to adopt him out again…but the president had fallen in love with him and he loved her. At the time, her husband hubby said no. But after all of this…he’s 200% on board!!!
She was going to take him home with her until Cuddles seemed to pick another person. The rescue did their due diligence…home check, application, etc. but unfortunately as much as we would like to…we can’t see inside someone…to see if they have what it takes to own a Moluccan. We all make mistakes. I texted the donors that sent the largest donations to bail him out…not that the rest of you don’t matter…you do so much..but I was already confused and adding too many voices was going to complicate my decision.I have some amazing applications for him but I also believe that rescues need to work together. Legally I could tell them that they can’t him back (their issue is with the adopters, not me or this rescue) but in my heart…I don’t feel like it’s the right thing to do. We set out to save him from the flea market.. and we accomplished that … which I hope you feel as good about that as I do. The video is the person I’ve decided he needed to go home to. His mommy. The person he loves. I will add a pic in the comments of the home he is going to.

Moluccan at the flea market. They are asking 2500+ tax. Let’s hope they lower it soon. He was talking up a storm until I pulled my phone out. Every time I walked away he said “heeelllooooo…” of course I would go back. You will see how really scared and jumpy he is at the end of the video. I was honestly going to wait to see if they brought his price down before posting him but after I realized how scared he was I thought I should do it now. He spooked so much he made me jump!

Just playing
Just playing with a program. You don’t have to like AI and if you don’t keep your comments to yourself and move on. The only prompt I gave it was “an adult macaw sitting in a nest with two baby macaws under her wings protecting them from the rain” and this program came up with all of this. There’s a way I can use my photos too. I am going to try that, it’s amazing what computer programs can do these days.

Ugh! I recorded sound with domino. The house was not fit for animals or humans. No floors…no ceilings…no walls…pans all over the place catching water from broken pipes and the roofs…mold…no electricity. Domino was in the dark. Not a ton of animals but the kids said she had more at one point. The only thing in the front room…was a dresser type of thing and Domino’s very rusted cage. He was in the dark with no electricity. The neighbor who has been helping out…held my phone for light. The neighbor has been a Godsend or these babies would be dead.
No one had a clue how this woman was living. No one. I didn’t even see any furniture. She went outside she socialized…she wouldn’t let people in her home but she also refused to go in other homes. Depression? Mental illness? One or the other. It’s sad for all

If it wasn’t for the fact that she called her mother every day…and the mom hadn’t heard from her in three days none of them would have survived! Mom called her brother who was on a plane the same day and found her lying on the floor…unresponsive but still alive.
Domino kept reaching out and grabbing my arm on the way home. He’s confused. But I totally think he’s tame. His nails are daggers right now…but he wants love for sure which is a credit to the owner…if nothing else…she loved her babies!

Why is it that I feel like I need to post my qualifications for everyone to see tonight? Is it the nasty comments? Is it because someone I considered a friend made me second guess myself? I don’t know. But here it is.I have had birds in my life for more than 40 years…in one form or another. I was an assist manager in a bird store in my 20s for more than 10 years. This store used to buy their birds from breeders who would then ship them to the store…sight unseen. On some occasions there would be a special needs cockatiel or finch in the bunch that they would keep in the back where customers could not see them. So at one point I begged to bring them home. The owners agreed as long as i purchased the cages, food, etc. So…I took them home…I put the tiels together in one cage. Then one day I saw an egg at the bottom of that cage. Well I hadn’t expected that!!!! What I did know is that although the bird store I was working for had hand fed larger birds…they didn’t have any hand fed cockatiels!!!! So I did my research! I also became I licensed NYS BIRD BREEDER. Omg! You had to jump through hoops back then…I can’t even imagine what it’s like today! Anyway I was a licensed NYS BIRD BREEDER for about 20 years. I never went crazy and never had more than 5-6 pairs. But I loved handfeeding baby birds!!! Back then we didn’t have formula. We had to make our own with monkey biscuits, ground cuttle bones, ground hulled sunflower seeds, etc. it was crazy but I loved feeding the babies!Fast forward 5 years…with a few quick stops in Nashville and California…I landed in Florida because of family. One day I found Golden Cockatoo Birdstore and bought a few babies for pets. If you’ve never been there and love birds and are in the area you need to stop there!!!! They have what I call “Birdie Layaway” you can make payments on the birds until they are weaned and ready to go home!! Well I ended up spending enough time there that the own

For those who don’t know…Faith was boarding with me for about 1.5 months. Her owners moved out of the country…they were going to surrender her until they decided they missed her way too much so they literally contacted me the next day to ask if I would consider boarding her instead. Of course I said yes. They are currently working with CITES and immigration to get everything approved to take her over there. But as you can see….she totally missed her daddy!
Dad fought cancer and won! Mom said that Faith gave him the will to live! Now you know why I was so emotional! He needed her as much as she needed him.
I know she was a boarder…but if you find a bird…please look for it’s owner! Only the owners that truly care will be looking for them. Accidents happen. Birds escape. I was lucky enough to reunite a lost macaw with its owner a few years ago and I will never forget the cry that baby let out when he heard his daddy’s voice. If you don’t think these babies miss their owners…here’s proof that they do! So please…if you find a bird…do the responsible thing and look for it’s owner.
Feel free to share. I honestly believe that people do not see birds as emotional or loving beings…as they would a dog. But they are capable of so much more than a dog because of their intelligence.
