Too many breeders post about OFA scores and pedigree charts, yet completely neglect the most important aspect of a dog’s quality: its temperament. A dog can have flawless hips and elbows, but if it can’t walk confidently down a sidewalk, be handled by a stranger, or recover from environmental stress, then that dog is not functional—no matter how “pretty” it looks on paper. Breeding should be about producing stable, well-rounded animals that can thrive in real-world environments, not just in the show ring or a whelping box. Health testing is crucial, but it should never replace the responsibility to prioritize sound minds, emotional resilience, and trainable temperaments.
