Got some good pictures from this morning’s class!

These unmounted lessons will help the girls’ riding and horsemanship during the warmer months. Already, their balance, strength, and stamina have improved; they have learned how to adjust stirrups, identify colors and breeds, identify and follow different gaits, identify bits and their purposes, identify different saddles and name the parts, clean tack, and much more!

Becoming a better horseman sometimes means learning the “boring” things and staying dedicated even when it’s tough. Well done, girls! We appreciate the dedication you all (parents and students) have shown to us and the work we do out here. We and the horses appreciate your support very much and love having other horse-crazy girls like us out here!

Attention!!! 👋 Please read! 👋

We are having to schedule the Valentine’s Fun Ride events due to the upcoming snow. ❄️😩

We will be rescheduling the mommy and me Valentine’s Ride to March 21st at 3pm; it will be spring themed. 🌺

The Spring Fun Ride for independent riders ages 8 and up will be March 20th from 3:30/4-6pm (Thursday).

For those who were signed up, please let me know if this change works for you and I will write your child in! We also have 1 spot left for each for a new sign-up. Thank you. 😊ear

It’s been a season of loss here at Gracie’s Place. I’ve been struggling to find the words to say that would do justice to the friendly face who would greet students with each visit.

Jerry got stuck in a trap not meant for him 2 weeks ago. When I found him, he had been in there for hours, and his face was damaged from panicking. He had scarred his poor little face and ripped his front nails. I pulled him out and brought him inside where I evaluated his injuries. He was scarred and bruised, and was clearly in shock from some dogs trying to get to him through the cage, but he seemed ok. I cleaned up his wounds and let him get some rest.

He went to the vet for antibiotics and pain medications, and a few days later, he still wouldn’t eat and acted exhausted. I took him back to the vet where they ran bloodwork and discovered his kidneys were failing. We will never know if he got into someone’s poison or anti-freeze, or if he was dealing with chronic kidney failure and the stress just progressed it so quickly.

Regardless of the mystery, he would never make a comeback and his kidneys were too compromised to recover. He was lethargic, rapidly losing weight, and wouldn’t eat or drink… we had no other choice but to let him go to sleep forever.

Sweet Jerry… I’m so sorry for what you went through and I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix it. You were a dog-ish cat with the sweetest personality, and so tolerant to my medicating and fussing in the couple years you were with us. I will always remember how feral you were when I first found you, and I will be forever grateful for the trust you gave me and the fond memories we created. I never would’ve known you’d become such a kind companion when you first showed up here all beat up.

Your memory will live on with all of us who had the pleasure of knowing you, and I will always wonder what really happened and why we had to lose you so soon. At least you are no longer suffering and have found rest. We love you, sweet boy. 💔

Mud, anyone? I’ve heard it’s great exfoliant. 😂

Happy 6th “got ya” anniversary to our sweet Cherokee girl!

She is a big mare with a big heart. We love her for her positive attitude and stoic nature. She is known as the herd boss around here, and has been a surrogate mother to both Millie and Lady. She has helped lots of people around here grow their education and gain their confidence, including our own Ms. Dayna.

We hope for many more healthy years with Cherokee to come! Share your photos and memories in the comments!

Hello everyone!
As of 2025, we must have 48 hours notice if you or your child can’t participate in their scheduled lesson or class. Without at least 48 hours notice, we will require full payment for the missed class before participation in the next class is allowed.

We depend on reliable income from classes and activities to be able to effectively budget the horses’ feed, vet bills, farrier visits, supplements, etc. Without this, the need for donations becomes more urgent and we can’t be certain we will have the funds we need.

If you have any questions, send us a message. Like the post to acknowledge you are aware. We will send out messages to those we don’t hear from! Thank you for your understanding and have a wonderful Sunday. ☀️

We would like to extend a BIG thank you to Stella's Shelter Fund and Jennifer Terra for their generous donation that allowed us to get more hay for our equine friends. Your support and generosity has been a true blessing this time of year. Thank you for your kindness and support.

Also thank you to Toni Moore and Julie Benham for the donations that contributed to Stella’s match. We are so grateful for our supporters.
