brought a soggy start to the Summer Finale at the Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort yesterday but it didn't dampen our weekend's triumphs! 🌦

Our team brought two green horses out and provided such a positive experience for each one in new territory through patience and excellent horsemanship.

It was so wonderful to have supported Kelly Finn's debut of her own prospect "Like a G6".

Watching Kelly develop this mare has been a true display of her talent with, and understanding of, green horses.

G arrived to our farm about 60 days ago after having spent the last few years out of work while with her breeder. The leaps of training progress in such a short time window are remarkable!

Meanwhile, in the hunter ring, our visiting working student, Liv and her horse "Stowaway" rode picturesque courses followed by a beautiful hack earning them a place in the middle of the pack amongst a competitive open class. We're so proud of all of Liv's own work on patience and trust in her mount the past two weeks, this duo continues to impress with each new outing.

I am swamped with green ponies that I’m dying to get into the show ring at Tryon International but don’t have students in my program who are a match to show greenies just yet. So I’m extending the invitation out to come show an incredible venue and gain invaluable experience at super reasonable rates!

Willing to get creative to get these ponies out there shining! If any families from back north want to come visit on a horse show vacation or something along the lines. Turning For Home’s Little Red Button continues to blow away my bench marks and expectations! Her journey is a testament our rehabilitation methods! Transitioning to life post race career can be very stressful on these athletes and the adjustment often takes a toll on their physique and bloom. Lulu has spent the past 3 months in a care plan revolved around low impact conditioning, individualized high quality nutrition, and of course lots of TLC!

Under saddle and on the ground, this mare is one of the most trainable horses I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Hopefully I have some videos ready to share on her training transformation soon!

Just 4 more months until her big debut at the Retired Racehorse Project’s Makeover this fall!

Visible results always speak for themselves! Lulu is another picky eating high maintenance gal that I wouldn’t be able to rehabilitate and maintain without the help of Unicorn Aide’s all natural supplements. I’m not a product pusher but this mare is one of three horses in my care that has completely transformed since starting her on their supplements!

In other news, I am so happy to announce we have 4 students in our first intensive program!

We provided about $1,350 in scholarship funds!
Which covered one student’s full tuition, as well as half of another.

At this time the group and I are opting to keep this first month of sessions social media free, then revisit what works best for our students. The aim in this is to challenge the modern social media and television distractions.

I’ve chosen to make the class phone free from the start to promote authenticity, focus, humbleness, and engagement versus feeling the need to act or be a certain way because cameras come out!

The feedback I’ve received has been amazing. And I hope to get back to all those who responded as soon as I can!

Life changing supplements from Unicorn-ade!! This gelding was last aged by the dentist/vet to be in his late 20s-early 30s. Doesn’t look it!

Winters have always been hard on him; he typically comes out of the winter having lost weight, with a dull coat, and sluggish demeanor.

This year I put him on Unicorn-Ade’s Old Geezer Pleaser and he looks and feels incredible. He has been on the supplement for a couple of months now; I wanted to make sure it’s the real deal before promoting. Plus the supplements themselves are homemade with 100% natural ingredients!

There has been an overwhelming amount of interest, so I am so sorry to those I have not responded to yet! In order to streamline this program’s acceptance process, I have added some additional questions on the application. Thank you all for your patience!

A reminder that this class is on the more complex side, so I’m recommending it as best for students 14-18, and I absolutely don’t mind young adults either! Younger candidates may also be considered based on experience level! I will also be sharing info in regards to beginner classes soon.

And last base to cover! Some colleagues brought to my attention that the way I approached the financial aspect of this program likely came off the wrong way to many! If you personally know me, you know that I often get incredibly excited and passionate about things. As a consequence, I don’t always think about how things may sound in writing!

My intention of not giving an upfront rate and my wording was intended to try and maintain a lighthearted approach to the difficult topic of finances for many of the young equestrians that are likely to be drawn to this kind of program. I do not want anyone interested to hesitate to apply and I was worried if I dropped numbers- I’d scare some of you off right away!

I’ve gotten to where I am today primarily through working; from it being work trade for lessons and board as a young teen and working studentships, all the way through hands on career experience and development.

Through the years I was often discouraged by my inability to participate in clinics, events, shows, etc. unless I could trade labor, or picking up more shifts at a second job as I got older. I didn’t receive my first paying working student position until 2019, and that was a lucky stretch. I’m thankful to the one who saw the spark in me. I hope to ignite the spark in others!

If reading about this program excites you - I want you to apply. You never know what could happen! We will be awarding one student a full tuition scholarship, as a partial scholarship to a second student. I hope this opens the door to a wider reach of applicants.

Tuition for this 4 week intensive program is $900. You can find more information on the supplies, experiences, and curriculum that are included in tuition.

Beyond the Bit has ongoing mission to make an equine/riding education more inclusive and affordable. Payment plans will be considered on an individualized basis and there are opportunities to work off substantial amounts of tuition! I am open to bartering for onsite childcare for my boys (16 years old and up or parent/guardians please!), assistance with barn chores/upkeep and misc. handiwork- we are currently renovating our home and it’s all hands on deck!

I would also love to discuss tuition deductions for social media content creation and promotion as well! And lastly if planning/fundraising is your thing- let’s talk! The proceeds of this course are directly supporting Talulah’s journey with us; I would love insight and assistance getting some fundraisers going!

🎉SPRING 2024 ANNOUNCEMENT & SCHOLARSHIP OPPURTUNITIES🎉
🌷As the sun comes out and temps rise (sometimes?)
Beyond the Bit is coming out of hibernation! 🌷

🐴 Alexa will be taking a select few students for a special opportunity to work alongside her in the training of a newly retired racehorse, as well as a BLM mustang! 🐴

🚩This program is not for beginners, age requirements are flexible upon evaluation of experience level. (**Stay tuned for our beginner class offerings!**) Extensive riding experience isn't required but applicants should be able to comfortably work with/around horses and have a basic foundation of equine knowledge.🚩

That being said, since the participants of this course should be ready to dive right into the good stuff-students will also have the ability to learn equine first aid and related treatments, about the history of both thoroughbreds and mustangs, learn from guest clinicians, and more!!

My goal for this 4 week intensive program is to raise awareness of the versatility and usefulness of two often overlooked breeds; as well as provide an insightful, hands on, learning experience to selected applicants.

Both horses are so kindly available to our program from some of our incredible sponsors.

A 501(c)(3) non-profit that helps retire and responsibly place over 300 race horses each year, known as Turning For Home, has sent a lovely mare to be trained with Alexa's Horsemanship Approach. Talulah, Jockey Club name: "Little Red Button", is in rehabilitation and training with Alexa in preparation of entering 2024's Retired Racehorse Project; held in Lexington, Kentucky. Thank you so much to this wonderful organization for their support in Alexa's Approach, as well as for all they do for OTTBs!

As for our mustang participant, Sarah Slyter (the barn owner, AKA your everyday superhero🦸‍♀️) generously allows Alexa to work with her mustang mare, Gypsy. Gypsy is a unique horse, she is an amazing example to educate students on reading equine body language and what goes into building a relationship with very reserved horses.

Sarah, her family, and her farm have been such an inspiration. Without Sarah & Paul's personal influence and monumental support in our lives and our mission, none of this would be possible. We are so thankful, honestly the gratitude we have can't be measured in words!

Please reach out to the page or Alexa personally with questions or for a program application. Deadline for applications will be 3/29 and selected applicants will be announced 4/1. With our first session being held 4/4.

Can't make 4/4? No problem! This program's schedule is flexible; the horses work on some aspect of their training 5/6 days a week. Each week we will organize what works best for everyone via group chat. You can expect a minimum of one private clinic and two group clinics within each week- with the opportunity for more based on the student's availability.

Tuition will be discussed after applications are received. There are two tuition scholarships funded (one full and one half) that will be awarded to two applicants based on their short response answers. I do not want to deter any eager to learn student from applying due to financial constraints. And do not worry- tuition is likely a lot less steep than you think! I truly want to share this journey as a learning experience. ❤️

It’s been a busy month but we are proud to announce we have expanded and are now located at a beautiful facility in Warwick, NY. We now have availability to take on more clients and have added to our offered services.

Great day at the Whispering Winds gymkhana! Olivia and Alina Beneat both brought home some ribbons their first time out with their new horse DC! Alexa and Legend had a blast and placed in each pattern and brought home a check their first time running together as well! What a fun day and well run show! Can’t wait for the next one! So proud of these girls! And of course a big thanks to all those who help these days run so smoothly for us!

Alexa and Sin had a blast! Not only did she pull some ribbons in the open, but Sin also doubled as a peewee horse today and handled it so kindly! Most of all Alexa was so happy to be having so much fun with her riders and barn family today!

So excited to see the photos from today, lots of great memories made!

Incredible day at Whispering Winds today!
Nic Grusz took home great ribbons and some cash his and Daisy’s very first time out! Amazing progress in just a couple months for both horse and rider and as a pair! Couldn’t be more proud of them!!!
Our new guy Dunkin came out to play and got an awesome payout and pulled reserve champion in his division with Alexa!
Sin blew Alexa’s expectations completely out of the water! She has been out of consistent work for a few weeks but did not miss a beat today! Such a special mare who has come so far so quickly, she earned her first ribbon in the open and ran every pattern clean today!
