May 2024 I was issued a Cease & Desist to STOP ALL WORK that I was doing at the farm. I referenced CGS 22a-40 and was told I needed to pay for an expensive delineation of the entire almost 14 acres and jump through hoops. I was harassed, threatened, took days off of work, BUT WE prevailed!

May - August was an entire growing season missed. Many families weren't able to be provided fresh produce. It was really a damper on business, but alas looking to a prosperous 2025 and beyond.

Tonight, the Chair of the Middletown Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency made an unsettling remark, suggesting we “could have a talk outside.” In every part of the USA I’ve been, those are unmistakably “fighting words.”

Middletown’s IWWA continues to blatantly disregard Connecticut Statute 22a-40, instead imposing their personal opinions, which they openly admit are contrary to the law. Their rulings are based on these opinions, not the statute, raising serious concerns about their integrity and commitment to justice.

To those who have offered support, I appreciate it deeply. To clarify:

• I am aware of Soul Fire Farm.
• I reached out to the NAACP
• I have spoken with someone from UCONN Extension (Kip Kolesinskas).
• I have retained legal representation (Janet Brown).
• I have met with the Mayor and Deputy Counsel (Hon. Ben Florsheim & Chris Forte).
• I have reached out to local legislators; unfortunately, they scheduled the meeting at an inconvenient time, but their aides attended.

Yes, I am exhausted.

After standing for over two hours, I asked the Commission, “If I had my grandmother’s last name of Rauccio, would you treat me any differently?” The meeting abruptly recessed, and after the break, they swiftly moved on from discussing the property.

This fight isn’t over, and I will continue to stand up against this injustice.

You will be missed!

It is with immense sadness we announce the passing of our leader, friend, and mentor, president and CEO, Dr. Brian Davis. Brian was an exceptionally talented and intelligent individual who left a tremendous imprint on the education and zoological fields. Furthermore, he was a beautifully compassionate human being who lifted others up and dedicated himself to creating a caring and diverse space at the Aquarium.

He was a dynamic thinker and always pushed the boundaries of what we could achieve, making Georgia Aquarium an extraordinary place. He was one of the first employees at the Aquarium prior to opening in 2005 and led us through years of innovation and growth. Brian’s indelible imprint made all those he knew better – we are better because of Brian.

As we navigate this heartbreaking news, our priority lies with caring for staff. We may have limited operations over the coming days to allow our staff time to grieve.

“We are heartbroken by this news. Brian was a giant in leadership with his intellect, wisdom, and imagination,” said Steve Koonin, Chairman of the board of Georgia Aquarium.

Our thoughts are with Brian’s family and all those that he touched throughout his life.
