We have found that dogs are transformed just by leaving a stressful kennel situation. We care for their health issues and provide vetting. Most dogs are then adopted by very special families. Hank, our gentle nanny dog, has a new job: being the best pillow for Gilligan, the tiny foster kitten. Gilligan couldn't resist and fell asleep hugging Hank's tail.

Cute fluffy Bear just moved in and is already friends with all the dogs. Bear is extremely gentle and we were told he is a shepherd and Pyrenees mix. We will be sending his DNA test soon to find out!

This little guy named Lucky was purchased from a Jack Russell Terrier breeder 4.5 years ago. Lucky was with the same family his entire life. Yesterday, Lucky's owners called their vet's office and scheduled him for euthanasia. The family was asked if they would like Lucky's ashes and a paw print. The owners declined. When they arrived for the appointment, the owners stated that they wanted Lucky killed because he urinates and defecates in the house. Lucky was deemed healthy and was not a candidate for euthanasia. The owners said that if the veterinarian did not euthanize Lucky, they were going to take him home and shoot him themselves. The owners agreed to sign Lucky over to the veterinarian practice without even saying goodbye to the sweet and gentle dog who lived with them for over 4 years. Lucky has been in our home for 24 hours and has not had an accident yet. He is good with dogs, cats, and humans. Lucky was a little shy and a bit nervous at first but warmed up quickly. Welcome to sanctuary life, Lucky. We're the lucky ones to have you with us.

Bleu developed a lump under his chin. He was an especially good pup for his exam. It is likely a play injury. He will be on antibiotics to clear things up. Thank you ☺️ Warren County Veterinary Clinic for always taking great care of our dogs and cats.

Three and half years ago, sweet senior Jake arrived. He was stressed and had trouble calming down and found it difficult to relax. It took a few months for him to decompress and settle in. Eventually he started to enjoy toys and trips and he made some great friends. Sadly, a few months ago he lost his mobility and his health declined. We had to say goodbye to Jake yesterday. We know he is somewhere running fast with Cody. You are loved Jake.

Gentle Will left us yesterday. We were lucky to have him with us these past 20 months. He was already crippled when he arrived and walking was a challenge for him. Even when he lost his ability to get around, he maintained a happy and sweet disposition and enjoyed traveling and being with his best friends. We miss you, Will. You are loved.

Our wonderful little Cody crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday. He arrived 3 years ago after spending 15 months in a shelter. He immediately became friends with all of the dogs at the ranch and brought a lot of fun and joy. He was an intense cuddler and loved his toys. We all miss him very much. Thank you Becky Wilson Garbarino for saving him.

Cody had a good re-check and his injection yesterday. He has made great progress. One more injection in 2 weeks and he should be just fine. Thank you Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates for taking such good care of him.

Cody can usually be found resting next to Will, so we had to move his bed ❤️. Such a good brother.

We haven’t been able to post many photos of Bleu yet. He is just so happy to be out of a crate.

Henrietta will need to be confined for several months during her heartworm treatment. But that isn’t stopping her from being her silly cute self.

Jake has a new girlfriend. Meet Henrietta! She is a little shy and has an issue with swelling in her back legs, but we hope to get a diagnosis once she has settled in.
