Taquito’s Tribe

Taquito’s Tribe Taquito is a sweet, 5 year old pittie looking for his forever home. Taquito has had a rough life and we are looking for a happy ending.

He is a shy guy, so he needs time to warm up to new people but once he decides you are ok, he’ll be your best friend.

I used to pride myself in being the household alarm clock. Mom shaking things up on me this week. It’s dark out!

Checked out Mike’s Car Wash today. Didn’t care for people approaching mom’s window. Definitely didn’t like that there are plush toys in there and they aren’t for me. 0 stars

Y’all won’t believe this day! Mom left and I was having a snoozle in my casita when my friend Katy came to get me! We went to the vet’s office and that place is always scary for me. The last couple of times I went I am pretty sure somebody slipped me something but I can’t prove it. Today, I was the only one there so I got to explore and sniff and get comfortable. I even got up on the slippery table! After that, I met with a neighbor who has been trying to be my friend. I granted him access to the inner circle. Welcome to the club, Dustin. 😇

Loved my opossum’s face right off.

Y’all, it is HOT in Ohio right now. My #1 hooman made me go on our walk early today because she said that pitties are big babies. I keep telling her that I am a purebred Clermont County Black Lab! I have papers around here somewhere. Anyway, we had our walk and I had a little cool down siesta and then she took me to a ‘pet store’. I have never heard of such a thing but it smells like dog heaven in there! I got to pick out a couple of new victims, I mean, toys. A nice lady even gave me a take home bag of cookies for my sisters.
10/10 highly recommend!

The past few years I (my foster mom) have done fundraisers for animal groups whose work I admire for my birthday. This year, I’ve selected a different non-profit. Second Chance Dog Ranch has done so much to help us in the last year while we are hosting Taquito and I would love to give back in lieu of birthday gifts.

This is a milestone birthday for me (55!😳)so I am hoping to make a big impact! As an added bonus, there is a donor willing to match up to $2,500!!

*************************************
Word on the street is that we have an amazing donor willing to match up to 💲2500 in donations to Second Chance Dog Ranch !!!

Your donations is what makes the life saving training and rehabilitation possible. Including (but not limited to) dogs like CC & River who were both recommended for behavioral euthanasia. With the work of Alicia Noschang both of these dogs attend playgroup at Brown County Humane Society Dog Shelter and are ready for adoption.👏🏽

⬇️Can you donate to help our lifesaving efforts ?! ⬇️

ps. We now have Venmo !!! {venmo.com/secondchancedogranch }

Look who is learning to like belly rubs. Taquito has come such a long way from a dog that feared touch.

Training day! Today we did muzzle training at Tractor Supply with Katy’s K9 Training and Sitting. Muzzle training is really important for fearful dogs like Taquito because it allows him to get close to people that he would normally avoid. This helps him build confidence and be less reactive. He has become so much more open to strangers since we started this. As an added bonus, he has obviously never been to a pet store before because he was so enamored with all the toys! He was so good that he came home with a pig that pinks and an opossum. RIP to both of them but he had fun!

Have y’all heard about pepperoni? My foster dad gave me some tonight and *chef’s kiss*, highly recommend.

Taquito’s journey to find his forever home began in January of 2022 when he arrived at a rural county shelter as a stray. He had clearly been abused in the past. He was terrified at the shelter and in an effort to keep scary people away, he developed severe barrier aggression. The tactic worked well because everyone was afraid of him and only staff would remove him from his kennel. I began working with him in January of 2023 and we became friends.

During his 555 day stay at the shelter, he battled bouts of parasitic infections as well as ear and eye infections. While not feeling well, he lashed out at two staff members and had a euthanasia date set due to his behavior. I had him assesed by a trainer to determine if he was indeed an aggressive dog and he was not. Days before he was to be euthanized, I pulled Taquito from the shelter and moved him to a boarding facility to decompress. He remained there for a month and then went to a board and train facility to work on basic obedience. That trainer also saw no signs of aggression from Taquito.

Taquito moved into our home in October of 2023. He has been working regularly with a trainer and has learned to regulate his fear response. He is now ready for his forever home!

Taquito’s perfect home looks like this:
🐾 no kids
🐾 only dog as he resource guards
🐾 quiet home with infrequent visitors
🐾 above ground fence
🐾 he will likely chase cats so, no cats

He’s crate trained, potty trained, UTD on shots and neutered.

He is a good boy with a lot of love to give. He just requires a little patience but will reward you with all the kisses!

Taquito is available for adoption through Second Chance Dog Ranch.
