My farm sitting career all started back when I was about 13, and that was almost 17 years ago now. We used to get hay from a farmer and when that farmer needed to go away on a vacation he turned to me and my family to take care of the farm while he was away. Now I wasn't old enough to drive even though it was right around the corner, my parents drove me over twice a day so I could care for various animals he had through the years (cows, horses, turkeys, dogs, cats, bird, fish).
That was how the Funny stories of farm sitting came about too, when the cows tore a hole in the fence, we didn’t have a clue how to get the cows back. Dad called the farmer and he said get a bale of hay throw it near the place they broke the fence and chase them with the truck. Darn if they didn’t run right back in thru the hole so he could temporarily fix it. Or the time that the turkeys surrounded the van and wouldn't move even when you blew the horn and tried to inch forward. Have you ever run over a turkey and listened to it hit everything under the vehicle as it goes thru? OMG I was horrified and laughing at the same time. The 2 turkeys were not injured, but we could not believe they could be that dumb to not get out to get out of the way. Needless to say, I have never let mom live that down....
Anyway, that farmer was my first client and when I got old enough to drive I was taking care of farms before and after school. When I went to college I tried having just one job and school but I quickly missed the farm life! Before I knew it I had a handful of regulars and those regulars starting telling their friends of my services.
