Most importantly, I am so insanely grateful for my family 💕

Devon, if it weren’t for you Hoof and Paw wouldn’t be a reality. You have given Annabelle and I the most beautiful life and have been so amazingly supportive of me chasing my dreams. I’ll spend the rest of our lives thanking you for being my biggest supporter.

Annabelle, you’re my motivation. Everything I do is to give you the best life possible! Watching you grow into the most beautiful human inside and out has been my greatest joy.

Missy, Edgar, and Shay have brought so much more love and happiness into our lives.

All the pups begging Belle for some chips!

Hoof and Paw offers boarding for your pups while you’re away. During their time with us, they are family! Having a house full of dogs is a handful, but it brings me immense joy to see all the puppers feeling so at home with us! My clients are an extension of my family and I love getting the extended chance to cuddle and kiss them (the dogs 😂)!

Cooper has stayed with us many times and sometimes hangs out for “daycare”! His last stay was for four days and he was happy to have made some new friends!

Moose and Timber stayed with us for the first time for 12 days! They are actually family 💕

***Disclaimer: Pets must get along well with other pets! Boarders are kept separate from grooming clients.

Yesterday marked a year since the passing of our sweet Maia 💔

We placed her ashes on the mantle in our den. I still talk to her, give her updates on how all of her “kids” are doing.

She had the most gentle soul with eyes overflowing with love. We will forever miss you Maia 💕 Thank you again for all the years of love you offered to your people, for being their rock when they needed it.

Another recent farm sitting!

The owners of this farm hold a special place in my heart! I met Ken and Kathy on my interview day for Stepping Stones Veterinary Wellness. They were the last appointment for the day, and it was a lengthy chiropractic appointment. I was able to spend a lot of time chatting with Ken and Kathy while Dr. Hirsch performed chiropractic care on Pat (the handsome guy chowing down on grass in the first photo). By the end of the appointment Kathy told Dr. Hirsch she better hire me!

I did get the job as a large animal veterinary assistant. When Stepping Stones closed and Dr. Lindberg opened Pinewood Equine, I was thrilled to continue on with her! Now, I’m applying all of the skills and education I’ve acquired through the years I spent working in large animal medicine to offer my farm clients the best care possible for their beloved big babies!

Thank you Ken and Kathy for being apart of my journey to opening Hoof and Paw! I’m thrilled I was able to offer you some peace of mind while you traveled to visit family 💕

Facebook will only allow me to post one video at a time, keep your eyes peeled for other shots from Ahisma Acres! Belle and I had such a wonderful time caring for the lovable farm critters for Jena and Anthony!

Featured: Harry the sheep giving lots of lick/chews as I pluck his shedding wool! Harry was such a trip throughout the sitting. He firmly believes he should be the center of attention at all times! 😂

If you are a farm owner in need of a vacation, but fear there is no one you can trust to care for your critters while you are away, then fear no more! Give Hoof and Paw a call, we’ll put your mind at ease so you can finally get some R&R!!

I got to SIT in the saddle yesterday. We’ve got a long road ahead of us, getting this girl back into work and ready for lessons with Belle! And I’m too excited to dive into it!! She’s L A Z Y after no work for a pretty long time and nervous about most things. Every visit consists of grooming, a little exercising, and hand walking the trails behind the barn. Well at least make a good trail horse out of her!

Missy update!

We decided to treat her with Doxycycline - one of the antibiotics used to treat tick borne illnesses. She had tested positive in 2018 for Lyme and Erhlichiosis. At the time she was asymptomatic, but we treated her with a month long course of Doxy anyway.

Last week, Missy had experienced some front limb lameness that went away within 24 hours. I’d chalked it up - at the time - to her playing too roughly with my mom’s dog the day it started. Front limb lameness is often a sign of tick borne illness, too. Due to the recent lameness so close to her episode, we ran a 4Dx snap test (checks for heartworm, Lyme, erlichiosis, and anaplasmosis). It is not uncommon for dogs that have been previously diagnosed and treated for tick borne illnesses to continue to pop positive for it for several years.

Considering all other diagnostics were normal, we figured a course of doxycycline couldn’t hurt, and she’s IMPROVING! Last night she was lifting her head. This morning she wobbled her way outside to go potty and make herself comfortable on the couch. She’s still not eating very much, her movements are still very unsteady, and she’s spent most of her day sleeping. But any improvement is excellent in my book! I’m beyond thrilled to see her tail wagging and her lifting her own head at the sound of my voice again. Hopefully, she will be back to her normal self in a week or so!!

Thank you to the doctors and staff at the Your exceptional care for all of your patients (and their humans!) is what makes your practice so great!

Thank you to everyone who has reached out and kept Missy in their thoughts. Your support is very much appreciated! 💜💜

Please have patience this week and send positive vibes our way…

Missy went into last night for an emergency visit. In late 2020, she suffered a Vasovagal Syncopal episode. Cause unknown. She spent three days with an extremely low heart rate, essentially comatose. We ran a full panel of bloodwork, did an EKG, and an ultrasound of her abdomen. All test results were perfectly normal. All I could do for days was administer subcutaneous fluids, express her bladder for her, and hope for her recovery. By day 4, she was more responsive, but it took two weeks for her to return entirely to normal.

Since then she has been in perfect health — Until yesterday. We had spent the morning together outside and she was her normal self. Around 1pm, I shut her in the living room so I could groom. After finishing my grooming dogs, I went in to eat my very late lunch with her while I waited for their owner to pick up. It was then that I noticed she was displaying the same symptoms as she had back in 2020. I rushed her over as soon as I could.

Again, her blood work is all normal. She tested positive for Lyme and Ehrlichiosis (tick borne illnesses). However, she first popped positive for those back in 2018 and was treated with a month long course of Doxycycline.

Her heart rate is not dropping nearly as low this time. She has maintained consciousness and is mildly responsive. She is acknowledging our voices, but sometimes only with her eyebrows. She cannot hold herself up or walk. I am administering fluids subcutaneously and expressing her bladder for her, again. There is little I can do for her aside from tell her how much I love her and hope she pulls through this episode.

I don’t think I’ve introduced you guys to Pepper, yet!

Pepper was a feral 8 yo Thoroughbred CHESTNUT mare when I first met her. I was still working for Pinewood Equine at the time. We were there for spring shots and dentals. Dr. Lindberg and I spent 45 minutes just trying to sedate Pepper as she bodied us around their run in. She slammed me against the wall and made a Pepper-Jess-Wall sandwich three times before we threw in the reins. No exam. No vaccinations. Definitely no dental.

At this point, Pepper had been fired by several farriers and had given her owner a concussion during one of her outbursts. She was entirely out of control and no one could handle her. Her owners were informed that the horse was dangerous and if she was never going to be able to be handled, she will need to be euthanized - horses NEED their feet trimmed regularly or it leads to laminitis and founder and vaccinations are just as important!

I reached out to Pepper’s owner, Julie, and offered to work with her for them. The anxious/reactive creatures are my favorite variety, after all. I am BEYOND PROUD to announce that after consistent effort and patience we are now trimming Pepper’s feet with NO anxiety supplements. And what makes me even happier - Pepper is seeking attention, something she used to flee from. You go out to see them now and she’s nuzzling her owners and rubbing against them. When I first started working with her, you COULDN’T touch her. Now, she’s seeking physical contact. Something that seems so small is a HUGE accomplishment for this girl ♥️

Spring is here and our furry friends are blowing out their winter coats!
1st pile is the hair that came out during the bath.
2nd pile is the hair that came out while blow drying.
3rd pile is the hair that came out brushing.

Regular deshed treatments can reduce shedding by up to 90% - that’ll save you a lot of time vacuuming! Call to schedule a deshed treatment for your double coated pup!

Stall mucking tutorial ft. Annabelle 💜

Happy Monday y’all! Expect to see lots of farm content this week! Belle was super helpful while at on Saturday and really wanted to assist in content creation for the page! She agrees that we need to get the word out better about our farm services!

Extended Sittings are one of the many services I provide! While the owner of Eqwine Equities has been in Ocala competing since January, I’ve been assisting her daughter three days a week with the care of the six horses who didn’t travel down to Florida. Sophia will be returning soon and Belle and I will be wrapping this job up. I’ll miss seeing all the wonderful horses there and I’ll have to start exercising again once I’m no longer doing stalls three days a week! Be on the look out this week for more farm tutorials with Belle, some amateur videography, some great looking horses, and a little back story on why I started Hoof and Paw!

We’ll be seeing more of Bridgette soon! She will be coming a couple days a week to hang out and work out a few of her quirks! Missy’s going to give me a paw teaching Bridg to respect other doggos’ boundaries and see if we can’t find something to help tucker her out!
