Practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes better!

🎾The difference between working your dog with and without something to motivate them
🎾using the place cot as an anchor for an otherwise “wiggly” dog
🎾redirecting after self breaking and giving them the win yourself!
🎾working the dog into the command incrementally and not trying to force an otherwise vulnerable position
🎾PLAY! Give them something to look forward to!

Those that have worked with me know that I repeat myself A LOT. Quite frankly, I really used to beat myself up about it.

That was until I remembered the “7 times rule.”

It takes the human brain 7 times of hearing or seeing something before it is a learned and committed to memory.

The integral part of my job is to make sure YOU, as the dog owner, find success in what I say and direct you to do with your dog. That is hard to do if you don’t remember!

So, I’m not sorry for repeating myself. There are SO many things to say in our 1 hour allotments and you are not paying me to forget the expertise I have provided.

Have you ever heard of the ”333 Rule” to adopting dogs from shelters?

The first 3 days are spent decompressing and getting used to their environment.

After 3 weeks, your dog has begun to learn their new routine and their personality really starts to show!

After 3 months, your dog is finally understanding that they are home ❤️🐶

They may be quiet, shy, and reserved to start out. But give them time!

Token 🪙 had his place lesson today!

Not only will this lesson build his confidence- but it is also building rapport with mom. He will know he can always trust her word to not put him in an unsafe situation both with executing this command as well as anything else!

This boy has a pretty unhealthy amount of dog reactivity. The very last clip shows him breaking his place.. but then mom does a GREAT job at giving him another job to do (getting back on place) while simultaneously breaking his fixation on the passer by.

🎾providing a definitive boundary to maintain accountability in unsavory situations
🎾building confidence with exposure to different surfaces (texture-height-shape)
🎾allowing incorporation of distance-duration-distraction thus eliminating the need to use the word stay

A once in a lifetime shapeshift from ox to dog!

🎾 utilizing toy drive to redirect fixation
🎾 instilling a sense of focus on Mom by making directional requests while in motion
🎾 learned the difference between constant vs correctional pressure
⭐️ desire for affection (coming to me at the end) over powered his insane toy drive (for a split second 😉) … the biggest win of them all!!!
