You may have seen one of my images of the the dynamic Carmen De La Paz last week. Here's a few more from my photo series Women's Work of her.

*I got in to woodworking because I wanted to save money and live in a nice space. I couldn’t afford to hire someone and when I did they did a really bad job so, I fired them and finished the work. I quickly found out it was second nature to me. I am hardwired to make things. I see things in my minds eye and can make it reality. Who doesn’t want to do that over and over and over again?

She's got great energy and was a joy to photograph as well as talk to about the creative process and life!

Lucky me, I get to work with/along this Dynamo of a woman in film production!
Meet Kara Mulrooney.

Her day job is commercial producing and production managing, she teaches a production design class in UW-Milwaukee's Department of Film, Video, Animation & New Genres, and she's an independent filmmaker. And a mom.

Currently she's producing, directing, and acting in her indie film called "For the Time Being". Co-written with Thomas Monica

From my ongoing series "Women's Work"

What's the best part of your jobs?

Collaborating.
What's the most challenging?

Collaborating. Ha, that can be challenging, but I feel so incredibly lucky to be working with a small group of talented artists on this feature, For The Time Being (working title.) Really the most challenging thing about filmmaking is finding the resources. Nobody cares about your film as much as you, and while that's helpful in creating - constantly asking yourself why the viewer would care about these characters, making you work harder to make them care - it's difficult to compel people to give their resources and time to a film project. And films are not cheap or easy - although you might think they were given how much content is out there!

In her words" What's the best part of your job?

- Gosh... there are a lot of "best parts"... As far as my own success... My favorite line to say is "From Page to Stage". I get to watch to process from concept to reality. It is one of the most gratifying feelings to watch the design come off the page in a 2D vison, and all of a sudden, you get to opening night and you see the work in solid form. It is always fun for me to compare the rendering the design team gets to the finished product on stage. This job never gets boring because I never do the same thing day in and day out. As far as everything else... I love hearing the reactions from the Audience members and Volunteers when they come see a show and they enjoy the entire experience. We are a collaborative team that has one common goal, and that is to make art for our community.

I found the perfect hat that compliments the Clark oil patch. My dad worked there in the 70s - '80s as an accountant. I have great memories of the company summer parties. They had an ice cream truck that kids like me flocked to!
The 2nd hat is an original Clark Oill hat.

Meet Jennie, she's a Heavy Equipment Operator (driver/pump operator) for the city of Milwaukee.
She's 1 out of 40 female firefighter's in the city of Milwaukee vs 600 males!
Warm. Impressive. Down to earth. Bada$$!

What's the most challenging?
Work/Life balance

Who inspired you and/or inspires you?

Karen greeted me warmly when I scouted the welding shop at M.A.T.C in Oak Creek.

Karen: Instructional Chair/Welding instructor at MATC.
She may be petite but she's mighty! You can tell she loves what she does and is a great supoort for her students. I loved her energy, patience ( I ask lots of questions) and loves her wife.
Makes me want to take classes with her!

Shout out to Carol Voss for this connection and others! It takes a village.

Karen's pretty humble with tooting her own horn. I talked with her after the shoot for quite a while. She's passionate about her job and the students that come to her classes.

Who inspired you and/or inspires you?
In my professional life I have one instructor that inspires me Michael Brown. He was my Metal fabrication instructor in welding school. He helped me so much. He knew I struggled a lot with english, being my second language and he did so much to help me. Michael looked for welding materials in spanish for me, gave me extra time after class to help me. He later became my mentor when I started teaching. He is the best teacher Mentor and friend.
Now who inspires me in my personal life My wife, my partner for most of my adult life. She is the one that has been there from the beginning thru the struggles and the one who has pushed me to always do better, the one that supported me in every way for me to go to school and today be where I am. The one that when I doubt myself, when I don't think I got what it takes she's there to shake those doubts out of me.

Happy Women's HerStory month!

Adria Zuccaro was the 128th Air Refueling Wing Commander, in Milwaukee WI. when I photographed her for my Women's Work photo series. She stepped down in February this year.

She was responsible for more than 900 personnel assigned to the
Wing who support the worldwide mission and enable the combat
employment of the unit’s ten KC-135R Stratotankers.

Being on the military base was a little intimidating but Adria was not!
Climbing up into that beast and being in that aircraft was an incredible moment(s). If only we had taken off to get the real experience! ;)
