Black Oak Belgians

Black Oak Belgians We are located in western Wisconsin, and raise and show Roan Belgians. Black Oak Belgians was founded by Darrell Stair.

His love of roans has been past down to his daughter, Terri, grandkids, Karlie and Trevor and great-grandson, Mavrik. There are countless friends and family that help with the farm and durning show season. Our hitch has been in numerous parades, including the Great Circus Parade, in both Milwaukee and Baraboo, shows in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. We also give hayrides at the Christmas Farm in November and December. If you are in the area look us up, I love horse talk!!

Still one of my favorite pictures.

This has been a bittersweet week. On Friday we said goodbye to Kathy. She has been with us since she was 1, and recently turned 25. Bobby Koss called my dad and said there is a roan here at the sale that you need. The rest was history.

As a two year old she was broke to drive and we used her in the 8 for one show. That fall she cut her hind leg in front of her hock. The vet at the time suggested putting her down. He said she would never be able to trot or run if she healed. I asked for a week to try. That winter she stayed in the barn and had her dressings changed every other day. Slowly she healed. The next spring she left her stall to go into the barnyard. Eventually making it in with the rest of the clan. She did trot and even galloped on occasion.

She was an amazing girl! She raised many babies for us and was a go to for hayrides at the Christmas Farm. When COVID tried to shut us down we turned the hayrides into a petting zoo, Kathy, Bob, Lily and the goats. I can't begin to tell you how many pets she got, or kids that she got her picture taken with.

I will miss our daily talks old girl and your soft nicker when you want to come in for grain.

Kathy girl, please say hi to the rest of the herd in heaven. I Love you!

Thank you Jill Kramer for being an amazing vet and friend!

Today on the day of the Horse seems like the perfect time to let the cat out of the bag. We are the proud owners of this weanling filly. She did come from Iowa, but is not related to any of our other horses. These aren't the most flattering pictures of her but we are excited to have her join our herd.

Roster's last ride.

In the trailer ahead of me was an amazing little horse, little for a Belgian, Rooster. He never seemed small as he was always proud and had a prance in his step. We purchased Rooster from the Makers, 24ish years ago. During that time I can't tell you home many times he was hitched. He saw many parades around the coulee region as well as the Great Circus World Parade. He participated in fairs in at least three states. He was our go to swing horse and even was in the lead once or twice. He had more energy then three horses put together. I will miss you old boy. Thank you for all the memories over the years. I hope you are now pain free and running in the fields in heaven.

A huge thank you also to Cranberry Country Equine Veterinary Service, Dr. Kara Gebhardt-Tessman and staff and Andy Doyle .

Today was bittersweet, this crazy lil stud c**t is all grown up and has moved to a new home.

As a c**t, we knew he was special and he has matured very nicely.

It is hard to say farewell and I will miss seeing you run in your pasture, but I know there are great things ahead of you!

Congratulations to Doyle's Belgians on their purchase of Jackson. I know you will take great care of him and promote him to the next level.

I can't wait to see his babies next year!

Good morning from The Christmas Farm! Again this year Kathy, Lily, Bob, Fern and Flora are here.

I am very thankful for everyone who has helped us get here this year! Charlie Storandt, Erich Knudtson, and Jen and Drew Wade. Special thanks to my kids, Karlie and Trevor for working, so that I can be at my shop in Mindoro. Also thank you to my son, Chase for going and getting my enclosed trailer.

My grandson and his friends are selling hot chocolate and cookies this weekend to raise money for two local causes. Please stop in and say hello!

Happy tree hunting to everyone.
