Is anyone else looking forward to Thanksgiving and stuffing their face like Grizz?

Fun Fact- Some bearded dragons go into a state called brumation, which can be likened to what most people know as hibernation in bears.

Brumation is an interesting thing, and it can make beardies quite angry. I mean, when you're really sleepy and want to nap but someone wakes you up to feed you or clean your cage, you might get mad too.

Warm days have us coming out of hiding like our friend Sunny here.

It's been warm enough that you might see some scaley friends, and a lot of six legged ones out and about.

A few weeks back we had our first successful catch and release as Curly Man Exotics.

This little guy found himself trapped in a garage. He spent some time in observation to make sure he was ready for release.

As you can see he was very excited to be back in the wild.

This is our purpose, to save those that need it and allow them a better chance.

Sunday is feeding day for all our wee and not so wee friends.

Our smallest friend is Dionysus. He is a Curly Hair or Tliltocatl albopilosus sling. This is an older picture of him eating dinner as he currently is in molt.

Molt is not fun, just like snake sheds. Though Tarantula molting can take much longer than a snake shedding its skin. Both require the animal to have a lot of water.

Tarantulas also tend to be in some very goofy positions after molting because their new legs need some good stretches! We look forward to Dio's molt and cant wait to see his adorable self grow.

It just keeps raining! So all of us are hiding inside.

Pro tip though, nice warm weather after rain is a good chance for Herping! 🐍

We love all things hairy here at Curly Man Exotics. This is our beautiful Hestia, a Brachypelma boehmei or Mexican Fireleg.

Did you know that New World Tarantulas have Urticating hairs?

They are soft to the touch, but they are not hairs like mammals have. They are actually spines and part of the Tarantulas body. These hairs cause irritation, and sometimes burning. These are thrown and they cannot be regrown until the Tarantulas next molt.

According to Texas A&M University fifteen species of Tarantula live in Texas. The most common and the most well known is the "Texas Brown Tarantula".

Say hello to our Brown Recluse, or Loxosceles Reclusa.

The Brown Recluse Spider is medically significant, and I advise against handling. The only reason we have this girl is that she is missing three legs.

Their venom is necrotic, and can rot your tissues. They can live up to four years, but wild recluses, like this girl, normally dont make it as long.

Other names are Fiddleback, Violin Spider and Brown Fiddler. They are known for their classic "fiddle" or "violin" pattern on their back. They are extremely common in the Southern US.

One in your house isn't a big threat and can be relocated but if you start spotting them more frequently or find egg sacs, a visit from a professional may be required.
