Dogs are a long term commitment, and good training is the foundation for a long lasting relationship with your best friend. I use the most current techniques from the world of animal behaviorism: the same methods used by zoologists and movie animal trainers to get reliable results from dangerous animals. Rosie is very missed. It's been important to me that her life has meaning and a lasting impact. The ripples of her life are still felt to this day. Today she's spreading the word on muzzle training. She loved her muzzle.

Muzzles are a wonderful way to provide safety and in some cases more freedom to dogs.
💥We need YOUR help! We need pictures 🖼️ of dogs wearing muzzles for use in an upcoming project! Show off your dog modeling their best muzzle!
🌹Baskerville Ultra modeled by the late, great Rosie ❤️ Rosie was muzzle trained as preparation for medical emergencies, as well as for the rare occasion when she was introduced to new dogs.

Thank you everyone. Yesterday we met our GoFundMe goal. Thank you to everyone who contributed, shared our story, and kept us in your hearts. It's very humbling to be so supported during a difficult time. I have been surrounded by words of love, encouragement, and understanding. Nothing will ever replace having Rosie with me. But having such amazing friends helps more than you can know.

With a heavy heart, I share that Rosie has passed on. I brought her to the E Vet Sunday at 7:30pm for lethargy and possible distended abdomen. It was discovered she had a splenic mass ruptured and internal bleeding. She was kept stable overnight until we could get her to her primary vet in the morning. Her primary care team took excellent care of her, but when they opened the abdominal cavity, there were numerous masses on her liver as well as spleen. There was nothing to be done but let her pass peacefully.
There are no words to describe the hole she leaves in her wake. I'm still in shock.

My friends have made a GoFundMe on my behalf to help cover veterinary bills. There is no obligation to donate.

Longtime fans of the page may recognize this face. Alphonse the Shiba Inu is a dog I've known since before I got Rosie. We're pet sitting him for a week and a half. He ends up staying with us once every few years, so Rosie is familiar with him, but I wouldn't say they are friends.
Even though she is dog reactive, Rosie can be integrated with other dogs if given proper support.
1. First step is to take intros slow. Alphonse arrived last night. They were briefly allowed to see each other through a barrier at a distance, then both were separated. They were also allowed to use the same potty yard at different times. They both got to see another dog was in the house and learn about each other through smell. Then they went to bed and had time to process the information they learned.
2. Positive intros. I know if Rosie is playing frisbee she doesn't care about anything else in the world. I also know Alphonse is basically a cat, and won't try to steal her disc or chase her if she's playing frisbee. So frisbee in hand, I let the dogs out one and a time and started playing with Rosie. He barely showed up on her radar, she had more important business to attend to.
3. Yard time. Rosie is definitely more comfortable with other dogs when she has space. So we're spending the morning outside together to get desensitized to Alphonse. Inside the house with enclosed spaces she's uncomfortable, so it'll be another day or two before they can share space in the house.

We're going at the pace of the dogs. Their responses inform my choices going forward. Slow is fast. By setting them up for success, they can be integrated smoothly for the duration of his stay.

Photos from the workshop with Sara Bruske. Very proud of Rosie's work, especially outside of the ring. We worked really hard on her ability to nap in a public setting while dogs are working. We gradually worked on her napping in the crate.
