!Important anouncement!

Below is a statement from Merck Animal Health and how they can help with the microschip situation with Save a life.

"Many owners are seeking to enroll with HomeAgain pet recovery database, and we want to make it easy for them! Here are options to process these enrollment transfer requests:

1.) Pet Owner Self-Serve Online Enrollment:
Owners can enroll their pets microchips on homeagain.com using code EnrollSTL.

Or

2.) Pet Owner Calling In for Enrollment:
Clinics can direct pet owners to call our HomeAgain pet owner customer care number at 1-888-HOMEAGAIN (1-888-466-3242) to initiate their pet's transfer to our database. Due to high call volumes, this may delay the process.
Pet owners will need to have their Save This Life microchip number available and let the customer care agent know that their vet alerted them to this option. Upon transferring their enrollment to HomeAgain, pet owners will receive enrollment in our database and 1 free year of our premium membership. If they then choose not to renew the premium membership, the pet details will still remain in our database forever and can be updated anytime."

If you have any further questions or concerns, pleast reach out to us by phone call or text, and we will be more than happy to assist you!

We have an ⚠️ IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ⚠️
Save This Life Microchip, a company whose chips we have used, has unexpectedly ceased operations and closed. This means your pet’s microchip number may no longer show up as registered if it was registered with Save This Life.
What should you do?
1.) Check your pet’s microchip number. If you have your paperwork from when the pet was chipped this number is what you need. If you don’t have it, or are unsure if your pet is chipped, please call us and we can have you come in to scan your pet.
2.) Confirm where/ if your pet’s microchip number is registered. Go to the AAHA Microchip Registry Lookup and search the number. This site is only able to show where a microchip is registered. If you’re registered with any other company you don’t need to proceed to step 3. If nothing shows up, the pet is likely not registered or was registered with Save This Life.
3.) Re-register your chip. If you are registered with Save This Life only it is recommended to re-register with another active company. If your pet is ever lost being registered is how someone may be able to get your pet back to you. There are multiple companies who you can register with. Some are paid and offer 24/7 recovery support and others have free registration. Find the company that works best for your family but some examples include: Universal Chip Registration, AKC Reunite, PetLink, Petkey.org, or 24PetWatch.
If you have any other questions about microchipping please contact us!

It's National Dental Health Month!

Ever hear the words 'Cat Stomatitis' and 'Gingivitis' but wasn't quite sure what that means for your feline companions? We are here to help!

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, by the age of 3, most cats have initial signs of gum disease. As they get older, it can worsen and without proper treatment, it could lead to serious health issues. Cat Stomatitis can cause chronic inflammatory disease, which causes ulcers and pain inside their mouths. Gingivitis causes inflammation on feline gums, and can be caused from plaque build up or poor oral hygiene. That's why it's very important and highly recommended by your vet to get your furry companions in at least once a year to do a oral exam by a doctor to make sure everything looks good. If you feel your pet may need to have an oral exam done, reach out to us and get an appointment scheduled!

A friendly reminder of what foods are not safe for your furry companions during the holiday season!

1. Bones: Turkey bones become brittle after they cook. They can splinter easily, and if your pet swallows one that's become splinted, your pet can choke or suffer internal injuries.
-
2. High-fat foods: Fatty foods, such as turkey skin and buttered mashed potatoes, can lead to GI upset in your pet.
-
3. Xylitol: This is an artificial sweetener that sometimes goes by the name 'birch sugar.' Peanut butter and sugar-free desserts are examples of foods that contain this. Ingestion of Xylitol can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar, leading to liver failure or seizures.
-
4. Macadamia nuts: These nuts are highly toxic to dogs, and can lead to things such as tremors, weakness, and vomiting.
-
5. Alcohol: During the holidays, this is a very common drink, but even a small amount can be dangerous for your pet. It has greater effects on them than on humans. This can lead to difficulty breathing, vomiting, and even seizures.
-
6. Onions and Garlic: These are very popular ingredients used to season dishes and can affect your pets red blood cells.
-
7. Bread dough: Yeast dough in the bread can expand in your pet's stomach, which can lead to discomfort, and even bloating.
-
8. Chocolate: This can be found in a variety of foods, including cookies, pastries, pies, and cakes. Chocolate contains theobromine, which is the organic compound of the cacao bean and is toxic to pets. The darker the chocolate is, the more dangerous.
-
9. Grapes and Raisins: These two can lead to kidney failure in dogs.
-
10. Corn on the cob: This can pose a choking hazard for your pets.
-
11. Stuffing: This can be harmful due to some toxic ingredients used, such as butter, garlic, and onions as listed above. This could lead to digestive issues.
