Finally got around to getting this nasty, rotten, deadhead of a beast cleaned! We’re really wishing we would’ve taken before pictures. It’s crazy what a lot of patience, time, and effort will do to get these things back to their original beauty 🤗

Remember that monster dead head we posted a few months back? Here’s the outcome, 4 months to the day! He took a lot of time and patience to restore him back to his glory but man, are we proud of this one! Deadheads are far from easy, especially after it had been boiled several times previously, but it sure makes us happy when we see how far they’ve come 🙌🏽

Another weekend means another weekend to support a good cause in the surrounding area! Head on out to the Jackson Township Fire Association SXS Poker Run this weekend. Baker Bones will have another goodie basket put together with a free European mount, couple t-shirts, an orange beanie, and everybody’s favorite- one of our hats! Get out there, have some fun, and raise some money for a good cause! 🚒

JTFA will host a poker run June 8th. If it runs and rolls, it's welcome. Come have a good time, live auction, silent auction, 50/50, and raffling off our old sxs.

Another weekend- another great event where you can support a good cause and bid on a free mount by us! We donated this basket to help raise some money for the Donnellson Fire Department. If you are not doing anything, this Saturday- May 11th, head on out to the Stumble Inn and get registered for the Poker Run. If you are not in to joining the Poker Run, head on out at 6pm for the start of the live auction. Let’s support this crew! 🚒

There’s a free will donation meal, raffle, live auction, and live entertainment. We put together this basket for the auction that includes a free European mount, a hand painted turkey feather by Hannah, a couple tshirts, a Baker Bones hat, and Baker Bones beanie. Sorry we’ve been quiet- we’ve just been busy and slacking with taking pictures! Today we spent time with family and then came home to change out a couple of our degrease tanks.

Degreasing is a VERY important step in making these things white. For example- a boar and bear head. The boar we have is in the last picture with some bears and they have been degreasing for 2 months. Look at how NASTY that water is?! With boars and bears especially, you can crank them out and get them white within a couple weeks- but if you do not properly degrease I guarantee you it will be deep yellow a couple months down the road. It definitely takes a lot of time and patience and with that being said, we have a love/hate relationship with water change out days- but know that that means we’re just one step closer to getting the finished product to its forever home 🤗

Rustic deadheads 😍

This is the perfect option if you don’t want to wait for us to make it white, as we all know deadheads can be pretty nasty 🤢

With that being said, we’ve had quite a few deadheads rolling in. This is a reminder to make sure you all are abiding by your DNR rules and regulations 🦌

Getting this big batch out the door has us thinking- you know what’s great about taxidermy? The resources that are available to you. It becomes a beautiful thing when other people in the industry can work together to make things happen. We are very thankful for this partnership we have with a butcher in northern Illinois so he can help provide a one stop shop at his facility- really making it a full circle experience (you see what we did there 😉)

We are also thankful for many of our local taxidermists who have been a big help along the way too. Living in the Midwest there definitely is enough work to go around for everybody! If you are a taxidermist and have any wholesale needs- don’t be afraid to reach out to us! The beetles are hungry 🪲

If you were to ask us what weather is the ideal weather for working on deer heads- today; today is the answer! ☀️ 💨

December and January really likes to set our turnaround time backwards. Between Iowa Shotgun and very cold weather, it hasn’t been good for us the past couple years. WELL! That’s not the case for next year! Changes are already being put in place to fix this reoccurring issue:

- We’re TRIPLING our beetle colony 🪲
- Water will be up and running in the shop 💧
- Working on getting the shop insulated 🔥

Thank you all for trusting in us! We’re looking forward to making these much needed improvements this spring and summer to be ready for the boys of fall!

Just another update:

Don’t think we aren’t trying- our house is turning into our shop! The things you do to keep things moving.. 😅

We FINALLY got our whitener delivered on Friday last week. What a mess. This cold weather has really slowed us down. We do not have heat in our shop so our tanks were freezing and as you can imagine, it’s been difficult to run water as well. We were able to get some totes and bring them inside to keep them degreasing and now that the weather is looking like it’s warming up- we are hitting the ground running taking advantage of it and will hopefully catch up rather quickly.

This has been a learning experience and we are already looking forward to this upcoming season. We ordered more colonies of beetles to speed things up (the first round of 4 are on the way) and we are also planning on getting heat in at least part of the shop, possibly the whole thing. Those are two major things that will help us avoid this again. Thank you all for your patience and understanding! We couldn’t do it without all of you! 🤗

Just wanted to give everyone an update. We’ve had some issues with getting our whitener delivered (UPS won’t come down our driveway)- it has been ongoing over a week. We have finally got this issue resolved and should be delivered next week.. if not we will drive to Quincy to get it ourselves.

I know some of you are at the month mark, we are working hard to get these cranked out! We want to thank you for being patient and understanding with us as we have had the holidays and this unexpected issue. You all are great! 🦌

From our house to yours- we would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year! 2023 blessed us with another record year and we could not have done it without all of you! With that being said, due to all of you sharing our posts and spreading the word about Baker Bones, we would also like to take this time to reintroduce ourselves as we have gained quite a few more followers.

Collin (27) and Hannah (26) are the owners of Baker Bones. We have two children, Creighton (2) and Huxley (2 Months). Collin was raised in Canton, Missouri and Hannah in Keokuk, Iowa. We found each other in 2017 and have been happily married ever since 2019. Ever since we could hold a gun, both of us have been hunting. We enjoy anything outdoors related, but both of us mainly enjoy deer and turkey hunting. In 2020, after doing several European mounts for friends over the years, we finally decided to take the leap- and what was once a hobby; quickly turned into an up and coming business. Collin does a lot of the skinning and cleaning, while Hannah does a lot of the whitening and custom artwork on the skulls. We manage our social media accounts together and both of us do check in’s.. we are truly blessed to have one another, as we work really well as a team to get the job done. Communication is key- not only with each other, but with you all as the customer as well. We started this business as an effort to provide affordable European mounts to those who love the outdoors as much as we do. We have many new ideas that we are going to implement in 2024 and we cannot wait to share them with you all. You all are amazing and we cannot thank you enough for the love and support. Our followers are what inspire us to continue offering a reliable service and working together to offer new ways to preserve the memory of your hunt. We cannot thank you all enough. Another 50 headed home!

We want to apologize if we are a little over the two to three week turnaround we gave you. We have taken some much needed family time during the holidays. Having a 2 year old boy and a 2 month old daughter- we had to pump the brakes a little bit and spend some much needed time with the kiddos! With that being said, we have a lot to do this weekend and we will get caught up on our original turn around. So be on the lookout next week for a phone call if it’s been awhile. It’s crazy to think that the number of deer you see in this post is the exact number of heads we did our first year in business in 2020. Fast forward to this year and this is about how many we do per week. Yes, per week! It’s crazy how word of mouth can spread something that was once a hobby into a full blown business. We are forever grateful for our customers support and the forever friendships we have formed along the way. You all are what inspire us to keep working hard. Thank you for allowing us to preserve your memory of the hunt! 🦌

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again- whitetails are truly resilient animals. Every year we get a couple heads in that tell a story just by looking at it. It truly is amazing what these animals can withstand.

Collin is in the shop today skinning away and Hannah is busy whitening heads and getting them cleaned up. If we’ve reached out to you about pick up please come pick up. I’ve got 31 heads in our back mud room, 19 laying on the floor here in our kitchen, and 12 getting whitened that will be ready Monday. If you brought us one late November or early December you will be hearing from us soon! 🦌
