All of our daycare participants also work on training exercises throughout their day. Lucy’s owners specifically asked if we could work on duration building with Lucy in her basic commands, so that was our focus with her today. She did great! And all of her pals politely observed and created a great distraction to better proof her command work 👏
Our Foster-Train, Bandit, discovered today how much fun it is to have doggie friends! Yay! This is so exciting because this opens up a whole new demographic of possible homes for him! He’s a pretty awesome dude with LOADS of potential! He would thrive in a sport home! I could see this boy being an agility rockstar!

Off leash freedom & recall - such a rewarding accomplishment between a handler and dog. I love that I can allow my dog(s) to have the freedom to run, sniff, explore, and come when called but let me say - this didn’t happen over night. This is a year and a half in the making. This is utilizing slip leashes, prong collars, & e-collars to provide consistent follow through to motivate my dog to want to come back to me and having a reliable lifeline if something goes south. This is also a product of quality breeding, relationship building, consistent (and inconsistent 🤷♀️) training. Clear rules, boundaries, and expectations. I would loveeee to provide this with all of my clients, but I can’t give you this in 2, 3, 4 weeks. But I can introduce it and help you work towards achieving it 😉 life with your dog should be enjoyable and simple.
Today was one of those days where I felt goosebumps sending a dog’s owner their most recent update. I was so excited to text Parker’s mom and tell her, “Parker’s making friends 😊” this is week 4 of Parker’s training. We’ve worked deliberately on building up Parker’s confidence through generalized obedience and listening skills. He’s been working on being exposed to other dogs without direct contact. His curiosity without unnecessary negative reaction gave me hope that he could have an enjoyable encounter with the right dog(s). For nearly a half hour, Parker enjoyed a play session with a few dogs today & I am so happy and proud of him!!
Impulse control. It should be taught from day ☝️ and incorporated with you and your dogs every day lifestyle.
Door manners, threshold boundaries, crate manners, feeding routines, going to new places, maneuvering around the house, on walks… literally everywhere. Teach your dog to check in with you for the next move, if they aren’t confident on doing it right. This will allieviate a lot of behaviors that display as “anxiety” 😉

6 whole weeks of Snickers and we’ve come SO far! That nub is nearly vibrating on a daily basis. She loves to engage in play, she is enjoying our adventures away from “home”, and she’s loving our time of learning. We’ve have built an incredible relationship fueled by love and respect. Since I don’t have a magical crystal ball telling me the outcome of my training dogs, I really wasn’t sure what to expect from Snickers based on our first week. I certainly didn’t expect what I’ve gotten from her and I’m more than pleased with the outcome 🩷
The coolest thing about dog training: you can eff up and start over as many times as you need to until you get it right. I purchased my first German Shepherd in January of 2023. I was very new, very green as a sport dog handler. I was (I still am!) in awe of those insanely talented handlers with flashy, fun dogs! We worked our tails off together to earn his first title by October. It was pretty awesome for what we were able to accomplish together in a very short amount of time. Now, we’re 1.5 years together, and I’m all the way back to the basics, working on cleaning up his füss with food luring 🤷♀️ it’s actually fun to “retrain” with my new knowledge and learning base. Moral of the story, everything you do is a learning process. If you don’t like the end result, go back to the start line and try a new approach. Your dog won’t judge you, they’ll just be happy you’re playing with them!
