The veterinarian who does spay and neuter surgery for our group will no longer be doing surgeries for dogs. Our group will provide $50 toward surgery at a low cost clinic on request as funds allow. She will still be doing cats.

Are any of my rescue friends irritated with the Chewy commercial where the man finds a cat under his car and immediately takes it in his house to "own" it? Never posts it or gets it checked for a microchip?

This event will fundraise for Happy Hearts Rescue which takes animals from the city shelter to keep them from being put to sleep. If you can come in and sign the guest book more money will go to this worthy group.

Last UPDATE: Dakota was trapped by Big Paws Rescue Trapping! They are amazing. Please consider donating to them. It is all out of pocket for them. Thank you to the Fairboard, Fairboard President (Luke) for letting us set up there. Thank you to all who called with her location (Holly, Jaime, Aaron. If I forgot you called please know we appreciate your calls). Thank you to the city for allowing her to stay in the shelter until her owner can get here from Kansas City. Thank you to my Richard and Brian who went with me to feed and always managed to get a sighting of her. Thank you to Michael and his friends who came out and searched too. If I have forgotten anyone, I apologize. Once again our community has come together to help a lost dog. Thank you all!

UPDATE: (He was adopted but his one brother still needs a home. His name is Ted and he is about 4 months old now and he is in foster care.) Would anyone be interested in fostering a 8-9 week old kitten. We were trapping at Casey's in Montgomery City and could only trap one of the litter and could not catch the mom. He is being held at the shelter but has gone from 2.6 pounds to 2 pounds in a week because he won't eat. Had him to the veterinarian and they could find nothing wrong with him. His name is Finn.

So we need homes for several cats. Two at the shelter and one someone is taking care of at his home. One at the shelter is a male Casey's kitten. The other at the shelter is a black and white male and the one being cared for is white with black ears and is completely vetted. The other two will be before going to a home.

After 4 years of running the Montgomery City Animal Shelter, our group, Project Precious Paws, will no longer be managing the shelter effective October 31st. We will not be taking in any new animals and will be trying to find homes for the ones we have now. When we know how the city will go forward we will let everyone know. I will be sharing more details and a thank you letter later.

Project Precious Paws Receives Grant

Project Precious Paws, Montgomery City, has received a $500 Petfinder Adoption Options in Action Grant from the Petfinder Foundation. Petfinder and the Petfinder Foundation Adoption Options in Action Grant program is used to assist Petfinder members who have attended an Adoption Options workshop in 2019 and need financial assistance in order to implement the programs or practices presented at the workshop. The Petfinder Foundation assists the 12,000+ animal shelters and rescue groups that post their adoptable pets on Petfinder. A nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, the Petfinder Foundation helps adoption organizations find homes for the pets in their care through its Sponsor A Pet, Disaster Fund, Quality of Life and other programs. Since its founding in 2003, the Petfinder Foundation has given more than $20 million in cash and product grants to shelters and rescue groups in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The grant will be used to purchase and build agility equipment for dogs to enhance their daily lives and in turn make them more adoptable. We are looking forward to working with dogs on these new skills.

ANOTHER UPDATE: 9/10/19. 2.6 pounds now! Up from 2 pounds. She is walking and eating. What a love she is! Some more weight on her bones and she will be ready for a home!
UPDATE: 9/5/19. She, Dreamy, made it through another day and gained an ounce!!
No one ever asks why we volunteer so many hours to the shelter. I guess most think we get paid, but we don't. I can give you one example that sort of gives you a hint. Two days ago we got a kitten turned into the shelter. Probably around 4-5 months old. She only weighs 2 pounds. She should be at least 3-4 pounds. Skin and bones, anemic, pneumonia, won't eat and can barely stand. The thing is, when you pick her up and pet her she kneads the bread and cuddles in your arms. Tonight I held her and scratched her ears and she was so sweet it made me cry. She looked me in the eye and reached her paw out and patted my cheek! How many humans would have the compassion of this sick little kitten? That is why we do this. For the animals and their sweet little hearts.

We have tons of kittens at the shelter. (24 kittens and 7 adults total). 9 of those came in today. The last few photos are some of those. All covered in fleas Took three of us almost three hours to bathe them and get the fleas off. They are too young for flea treatment. I will get some "after" photos up soon. They look a lot better now.

This is the newest addition to the shelter family. We have gotten 11 kittens in the last few days. 7 others and this one have to be bottle fed. We have a new young lady working for us and she took the seven home and has been bottle feeding them all day and night and doing an amazing job.This one is home with us. Two others are sick as is this one. PLEASE SPAY/NEUTER and if you have kittens take care of them!

For those of you who are not familiar with the term a pet "gotcha day" is the day they were adopted since shelter animals don't often have a known birthday. Unfortunately, poor Mac has a shelter "gotcha day" today. He has been with us a year today.
