We currently have limited lesson openings available and would love to welcome new riders into our barn family!

That said — we know horseback riding is a big decision, especially if it’s new for you or your child. Not everyone is ready to jump straight into a lesson… and that’s okay 💛

That’s exactly why we’re introducing our New Rider Orientation — a low-pressure, hands-on way to explore riding before committing to lessons.

🐴 New Rider Orientation at Swan River Stables

Curious about horseback riding but not sure where to start? Our New Rider Orientation is the perfect first step!

This 90-minute, hands-on experience is designed for new riders and families who want to learn more about our barn, meet our horses, and feel confident before scheduling their first lesson.

✨ What You’ll Experience
• Guided facility tour
• Meet our amazing school horses
• Learn the basics of grooming
• Hands-on grooming with a horse
• Overview of different riding styles to help you decide what you’d like to try
• Meet one of our instructors
• Watch a tacking demonstration
• Time for questions — and more!

💵 Cost & Perks
• $20 per student
• Parents/guardians welcome at no cost (optional, not required)
• BONUS: Book and pay for your first lesson at the orientation and receive $20 off that lesson

👕 What to Wear & Safety Requirements
• Closed-toe shoes are REQUIRED (no sandals, Crocs, or open footwear)
• Dress for the weather and plan to get a little dirty — you’ll be spending time in the barn and around horses

📝 Liability Waiver
• A signed liability waiver is required for all participants
• Minors must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian before participating

🐎 Horsemanship Class – This Friday Evening 🐎

Join us Friday, 1/9, from 5:30–7:00 PM for a hands-on horsemanship class open to all riders and experience levels. This is a great opportunity to learn practical skills that help keep horses comfortable, confident, and safe—on the ground and in the saddle.

✨ We’ll be covering:
• Blanketing FAQs – when, why, and how
• How to properly wrap a tail for winter
• Reading horse body language and how to react to a spook
• Correct saddle placement and why it matters

💙 Current weekly lesson students attend FREE
👢 Guests welcome – $10 per person

Volunteer opportunities are available at our premier horse boarding stable in Monticello, MN, offering a unique hands-on experience for those passionate about equine care. This rewarding experience provides an opportunity to work closely with horses and contribute to their well-being. We are seeking reliable and dedicated individuals to assist with various tasks essential to the daily operations of the stable.

Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers play a vital role in maintaining the health and safety of our horses by assisting with the following daily tasks:
Cleaning Stalls and Barn: Ensuring a clean and safe environment for the horses.
Bringing Horses In: Assisting with the evening transfer of horses from pastures to the barn.
Feeding: Preparing and distributing meals for the horses.
Exercising: Opportunities to assist with exercising horses, depending on experience and stable needs.
Ideal Candidates
We welcome individuals who share our passion for horses and are committed to providing exceptional care. Prior experience working with horses is advantageous, but we are willing to provide training to enthusiastic and dedicated individuals. Reliability, a positive attitude, and a commitment to consistent care are essential, as the horses depend on our team for their well-being.

If you have a passion for horses and are willing to contribute to their care, this is a rewarding volunteer opportunity.
