A couple people know this was in the works but I wanted to wait till he got here to make an official introduction.
Everybody meet Diesel ❤️💜❤️💜 He's a 7 yr old Dutch Shepherd.
He joined my pack today to start his official medical retirement from the Hessmer, Louisiana Prison as a detection dog.
I will be making a tiktok for him soon so everybody can see him enjoying his retirement bucketlist adventures and a whole lot of "firsts".
We tried hotdogs & chicken nuggets today and he was not a fan. It was discovered while he was with Trentin; (the Prison K9 handler that helped organize his retirement) last night that he likes cheese though; so we have a win there. 💜
It's been some years since I've had a Dutchie in the pack & it's been nice to see some stripes again 😌 ☺️

As we celebrate the hopeful end to a very hot summer, we are looking ahead to a more productive fall! We welcomed 3 new dogs to the Project in the last 2 months, and have hit our record of 30 dogs in our care. With the successful surving of the summer, our focus will now shift back to continuing to....

I would like to introduce Rambunctious Miss Opal the Shepherd mix (maybe Catahoula, maybe husky....we aren't sure, but she's high energy and likes to play!)
Opal is here for a 3 week Board N Train for..... basically a doggy behavior makeover.
She's going to be learning all the good stuff that has to do with household manners, basic obedience and how to not be a bully to the little dog at home. Stay tuned for more Opal updates!

I'm a bit late posting but over the weekend Jax the Border Collie had his second private lesson. He is really enjoying the challenges of training and figuring out what I want from him. He's very tuned in and eager to work; he's quickly becoming one of my newest favorites.

When Dakota stays over while his humans go out of town we have a lot of fun working on his skills. As hot as it's been we also took some naps and he got to play with the kitten Nina.

So for anyone that has (or hasn't ) been following the chaos and hell hole at the Malinois Ranch in Tennessee. If you wished you could have helped....here's a way you can. I'm going to insert websites for each organization that was represented in helping get these dogs. Please send financial support ; that makes the world of difference for each organization.

There's a group of amazing individuals that stepped up when dogs needed it most. They dropped their lives, they went to Tennessee, they dealt with a nightmarish situation, angry people in denial, Julie/Ranch supporters in denial and 30 dogs presenting horribly because they were in absolutely horrible conditions. 23 of 30 were able to make it out to second chances. 7 unfortunately did not but they felt affection, love and a peaceful end to the misery in their final day and moments.

One of those people was a person who's mission and organization is near and dear to my heart. I absolutely love Krystal; She and her wonderful husband head up the Ddamien Project. A sanctuary for retired military working dogs that can no longer work and need a place to live out their days. All of these dogs are not suited for pet homes and require skillful day to day handling and experience. Some also retire due to health issues and are hospice cases that need extra TLC, comfort and additional medical care. Many times this gets costly but these dogs gave so much serving our military teams I'm sure you will agree; they deserve whatever they need.

I believe they also have a tab with the vet that handled assessments and provided services for evaluations and care in Tennessee that may still need to be paid. I will see if I can find that information and add it back in here also.

This is my life motto... Not just personal but with business also.

I've never been a person that's going to tell you what you want to hear.... You might not like it but you'll know I'm being honest.
As a dog trainer I'm also not the type that's going to take your money and make unrealistic promises of rainbows, unicorns and sugar plums. That never has been nor will it ever be me or how I handle clients, rescue work and business.

Life is rough sometimes & life is work to some degree - almost always. Changing your relationship with your dog can be so much fun but its also going to be work. You can get down to it & do the work right from the start or you can try short cuts and nonsense, wasting time hoping for results- chances are you won't get.

Do the work
Learn to enjoy all of it, not just the fun parts
Build a relationship, play, chill & relax too
Make it part of your everyday lifestyle
Continue indefinitely & reap the long term rewards...
Your dog and you will both benefit greatly.

How I got woke up this morning. 🤣

Everybody meet Zoey; she's one of my senior vacation boarders. She gets special treatment because she's a little spoiled 🤣
Most boarders would sleep I'm their crates/expens at night but some trusted boarder pups get "special privies" and get snuggles in bed with me.
I was attempting a lil make up Zzz's but Zoey said she wasn't having it and I needed to wake up lol

This is a prime example of where you have to draw a line, recognize it for what it is & make a decision to save the lives of dogs that are not a danger to literally every breathing & living thing around them.

As someone who once upon a time had to make the decisions of who stayed and who had to pass over the Rainbow Doggy Bridge and actually DO the task....it didn't sometimes suck, it ALWAYS sucked but it had to be done.
Even when you knew that it was the safest decision & the best decision for the dog. I'll always advocate for behavioral euthanasia when it's necessary. Whether for safety or quality of life... Or in this case both.
The money they will spend attempting to safely house and manage this one dog that is a danger on so many levels..... Could go to safely housing and caring for MANY that are not a liability to anyone.
Training can't fix everything ALL of the time...this is one of those times.

If you are involved in rescue/shelter work ect.... Please do the dog and the community a favor. If a knowledgeable professional recommends behavioral euthanasia because it's beyond what training can fix.... Please don't pass the dog off to be someone elses liability.

Saturday Group Practice!!

Augie the Poodle joined us for a drop in lesson today. He gets over stimulated in environments around other dogs; so his task today was directing his attention & focusing on his handler, impulse control and relaxing quietly. He did VERY well and showed nice improvement from beginning to end of class. Looking forward to working with this team further to help solidify their skills.

George, Cooper & Dakota all came to put in some work and practice their skills today. Then we trimmed Coopers toe nails after practice with minimal fuss. (GREAT improvement Cooper!)

We cover a large variety of behaviors in small group lessons & at this point we customized each teams goals based on where they are currently in their training.
I keep a max of 4-6 so I can work some 1on1 with each team as needed.

****** Puppy Obedience Intro Group Class!

🐾Limited to 6 participants to allow sufficient hands on assistance as needed.🐾

Puppies should have age appropriate shots, be on flea & tick prevenative and be no more than 16-18 weeks of age.
The curriculum for this program is flexible and will cover a wide variety of puppy rearing topics. The intent is to teach the owners the skills necessary to start their puppies introduction to training with professional guidance. This will be a 6 week program that meets outside in a public setting once a week for roughly 45-60 mins.

*Crate Training
*Household Manners
*Puppy Obedience training
*Environmental Exposure
*Training Tools
*Physical exercise & mental stimulation
*What IS socialization really?
*How does my dogs genetics & natural instincts influence training

Sooooo there's been a lot of exciting things going on in the background! 👀👀

Recently relocated to the center of our clientele service area which makes things much more convenient all the way around. (Hello Pineville; We are glad to be here!! 😁)🏡

A lot of plans and projects in the works for the new place as fencing in play/potty yards continue, blue prints for play yard & agility equipment get drawn plus setting up the medium/large dog room & then the small dogs room that will also double as my office space.

At this time I am taking (on limited availability) new clients and booking for boarding- these are limited spaces so please don't delay booking.

I do have a couple spots available in the small group obedience class; I will add these are refresher/proofing classes for dogs that already have a solid base foundation in obedience and are ready for the challenge of being in a public space around a wide array of different distractions.
If you are interested but have not taken training classes with me before please message me to discuss the details & to schedule your dogs temperament test.

Last but certainly not least! I'm pleased to welcome "George" the Bernese Mountain Dog puppy & his owner Julie into the training family. They have completed their first lesson and I look forward to assisting them towards achieving their goals of fabulous house manners and reliable obedience.

*When looking for a purebred/wellbred pedigree puppy from a reputable breeder keep this in mind!*

POTENTIAL OWNER: How much is the puppy?
BREEDER: $2,000 - $3500
POTENTIAL OWNER: What?? It's way too expensive!!
BREEDER: What do you think would be a good price?
POTENTIAL OWNER: No more than $500. You breeders are so over priced.
BREEDER: I am sorry you see it this way, why don't you try it yourself?
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I've never done it!
BREEDER: For FREE I can teach you how to do it, and in addition you will have the knowledge to do it again.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Perfect, thank you!
BREEDER: To start you will need a female (average cost $3000 and up because full akc is always more expensive than pet price). Also a male (average cost $3000 and up) or semen (average $1000 and up). Not to mention all the puppies breeders grow up only to find they aren't breeding quality so they fix them and start all over searching for the perfect specimen that will contribute to their breed and program. Raise and provide daily care, feeding, health maintenance and evaluations & grooming for 2 years (before any puppies). So minimal $150 per month)
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have that much money...
BREEDER: For $500 you can raise a litter and then keep one of the puppies. Obviously, you will pay the cost of whelping & care.
POTENTIAL OWNER: I can do that.
BREEDER: OK so I have a female due to whelp in 2 weeks. You will need to be available 24/7 around the clock for at least 8 weeks to help with delivery and care.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Eight weeks?? it's way too much time for me! I have to work.
BREEDER: You will also need the reproductive vet to do xrays($200-$500), possibly progesterone testing($75-$250) & C-section($1000-$5000) and initial vet care on pups until old enough to be placed.
Have on hand a scale, thermometer, latex gloves, sanitizer, absorbent tissues, scissors, hemostats, heating pad, whelping box, blankets, cleaning supplies, appropriate food with supplements for mothers, formula, medications & hand feeding supplies in case of emergency....
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have all these things!
BREEDER: For $1000 you can buy them.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Ummm .... You know, I think it might be better if I just buy a puppy.
BREEDER: Wise decision.

For us breeders there are no vacations or holidays, while you go to visit with family & friends we are home at our dogs side caring for them. It is a no breaks commitment.

THIS IS THE REALITY
When you choose a professional you don't only pay for the puppy but also:
Tools, knowledge, experience, love, time, sacrifices, etc.

First time in a while we will have a couple spots available for a 7-10 day Board N Train obedience boot camp available.
Limited to 3-4 participants
I'm sorry; dogs with human or dog aggression issues will not qualify for this opportunity.
This boot camp is intended to teach intro to obedience, refresh obedience skills, target 1-3 problem behaviors ect.
**Please note: This is not an all inclusive obedience program; the average board & train program is apx 3-4 weeks not 7-10 days.
Any dogs participating in boot camp will need additional & continued training after boot camp.

I'm getting a lot of questions in regards to our affiliation with any other trainers in our area.
We are not affiliated with any other dog trainers in the Cenla (Alexandria/Pineville/Rapides parish) area.
We also don't condone excessive or harsh treatment of any animals whether for training purposes or not. As a standardized practice we use LIMA standards with modification for each individual dogs needs to be able to understand, learn & succeed.
If you have specific questions in regards to the training policies or procedures we use for training please reach out and ask.

To say I'm behind on posting content is an understatement. 🤦‍♀️ It's been a crazy couple months to say the least!
Latest updates.....
Added a couple new public practice locations for group practices.
Chloe, Riley, Dakota, Rex & Georgia have all been to visit or are currently hanging out with us at the funny farm.
Georgia & Rex are the best play buddies. Rex has been visiting his family whenever we can get together & he made new friends at the park last visit.
Cali & Belle are getting much better and making steady improvements as time goes on.

Accepted 1 new behavior mod pup into a full obedience transformation program a few weeks ago (she will get her own post shortly). She is already going from highly fearful to more outgoing, inquisitive & learning to relax better.

110 # Male German Shepherd--Previous owner had to medicate him to go to the vet for nail trims. This is the first I actually used nail clippers on his feet but we have done a lot of work on foot handling prior to this. Regular handling/grooming ect doesn't have to be difficult folks; Be consistent, be fair, reward frequently for what you want & start young when possible.
