No Pics, but another amazing work session with Shoshoni. First early this afternoon, I drove her off the French-link snaffle and she did really well. Thoughtful and although she tried to choose directions she made the proper corrections when I asked.

Later this evening I went back out and put a halter with reins attached on her. Then we went to the fallen tree log in her paddock and I got up. I was laying on her, squeezing with my legs and encouraging her to move, take a step. She wasn't sure about that. So I just waited for her and relaxed down into her back to hang out for awhile. Then she moved a back foot and I thought I was going to go riding. But no. Something bumped my back, I looked behind me and there was Fergus the goat riding double with me. Both of us up there together. Sho was being a mamma keeping both of us safe. She's not convinced I can stay on. That's her hesitation. That's a good horse taking care of those around her.

I've been shaping this mares mind toward this endeavor, toward taking responsibility for those on her back. She's getting there.

Had a wonderful yet short session with Sho today. Ground drove down the road then worked on flexing and turning. Then we practiced backing. That was all done off the halter. I attached the long lines to the bit (french link) and drove her home. Afterwards I reattached the lines to the halter and sat on her for maybe 10 minutes. I mounted her where the goats climb aboard. Figured she’s used to them scrambling up on her and jumping to the ground. She was quiet and patient. Her demeanor was soft and thoughtful throughout. Very pleased with her.

This young man has a deposit on him. The family who's buying him live close by and will be participating in lessons in Montrose while we finalized the health certs etc. Then they will finish up lessons at home. Not only am pleased with the final price, but I am over the moon stoked about this family. Two kids just the right age to build a strong bond and of course they love him already. He will become a family member with them and their other gypsy cross mare, go exploring, and enjoy a great backyard horse life.

My grandson, Kellen, came to spend the night and today we did this. Shoshoni was awesome for Kellen’s first ever sit on a horse. He’s six. It was Sho’s first time with a child. She was very tuned in and a rock! Very PROUD of both of them!!!

Blaze and I had some exploration time today. He’s learning how to lunge at the walk. Three turns each way. He’ll be prepping over the next two months for ground driving. He’ll be introduced to the harness too soon.

He’s such a sweet good boy. Looking for his best friend.

Took Shoshoni out for a ground drive down the road. It was her first time out and about driving out in front of me. She held a nice clip at the walk; brisk but relaxed and drove in a straight line. I've been very pleased with her handful of work sessions of late.

What’s on my mind, FB asks… This…

Well Blaze left for greener pastures over at Jody’s last week. This video was from Wednesday when I took the grandkids up to visit him. I’m going back up today to take him for a walk.

Here it’s difficult to see her eye movement and where she’s gazing. But I train the eyes and the feet before I ask the horse to learn their skills. I want my horses involved with what I’m doing. We’re doing it together and they may have opinions about what we’re doing , thats fine. I want to know their opinions before it shows up to bite me. When I started with Faith she was bold and held her head way over mine and remained aloof gazing off. She ignored me completely. Look at her now, after 4 short 15-20 minute kind and patient yet firm and structured intellectually stimulating sessions. She’s going to be a wonderful partner.

Faith, a new train, is a lovely buckskin stock horse mare. She’s in her teens and has had basic handling but no formal training. This is our fourth session. She is being prepped to become a driving horse for her owner, Tasha Todak. Faith began her sessions with her head high and with a few semi aggressive moments. I mean who was I to show up out of the blue to tell HER, the Queen Bee, what to do. She has finally decided its easier to just come hang out. I always use opening the gate as a reward when she’s accomplished the skills of the session. Today she had only a couple of episodes where she felt pressured and turned away from me. Otherwise, she pretty much stayed connected.

Stoked with ES Dear Prudence and how she has partnered up and tries her heart out. I love how she's always checking in with me. She's really expanded her world and shows a ton of maturity. Every week it's better and better. Remember she was the one who would brace and refuse to move under saddle, and she had a few temper tantrums in the beginning. LOOK AT THIS ANGEL NOW! Several posts coming with individual videos in each from today.

This is what Syneva and I did today with the amazing Pumpkin.

I'm loving the connection developing between Prudy and me. If she were my year-long project she'd be rock solid and one hell of a partner in crime. A great-minded mare.
