I have ten, yellow lab pups. They are three weeks old now. Sire and dam have x rayed hips and elbows. Some of these need a new address at eight weeks old. I’m going to keep one and use her to flush and fetch in front of pointing dogs. They will make water fowl retrievers as well as great pets. Contact me for info.

A couple of years ago, Dale Smith asked me if I thought a field trial could be held at the Crooked Creek Conservation & Gun Club, Inc. near Noblesville Indiana. I went up and looked at the grounds and laid out a course. I met with the board members of the club and suggested that we get some people together and have a ‘fun trial’. We did that last year and it seemed to work really well. So, we decided to move forward with a trial. The inaugural event was held yesterday. The weather was miserable, cold, windy, wet, with intermittent sleet. A lot of people jumped in and helped wherever needed, and I really am grateful to them. I have pictures of all the winners for now, and I hope to have some action photos soon. I’m happy also that we took 3rd place in The Puppy stake with Caitlin.

This is my favorite day of the year. This is the day that I emerge from the darkness. For the next 7 or 8 months I will go out after work to do my chores without a flashlight or without stumbling around in the dark. I will also have time in the evening to actually do something fun like work the dogs.

This is Clark, he’s about 12 weeks old. This is the first time he has seen a wing, and he isn’t too sure about it. He is a very bold outgoing pup and he will come around.

A scene from my walk to the mail box today. Clark has been here for about two weeks. His sire is a winning horseback shooting dog, and a frozen semen son of Elhew Sinbad. His dam is a daughter of Simmons Black Dog. He is as happy and well adjusted as any puppy we have had here. Clark is a half brother to Caitlin that we have here. The darker colored lab is due to have puppies on or about March 8.

I get a phone call occasionally from someone looking for a good Red Setter, trained and ready to go hunting, at a reasonable price. I tell them to look for a Unicorn instead, they’re easier to find. Well, here is the Unicorn. I raised this pup here, his mother is full sister to Little More Shine. He is ready to go hunting, and would be a competitive, foot handled trial dog. The response to my post a few days ago about holding a field trial at the Clear Creek Conservation Club in Noblesville IN, has been overwhelming. I was really worried about getting enough entries to even have a trial, but that does not appear to be an issue. Thank you to everyone that has responded and offered to help. I hope to have everything finalized by the end of January. Please watch this page for updates.

I am tentatively planning on putting on a Walking Shooting Dog field trial in mid March. The trial will be held at the Crooked Creek Conservation Club near Noblesville, Indiana. We will have an Amateur Shooting Dog stake as well as an Amateur Derby. We will have a Gun Dog and Puppy stake, time permitting. I’m not taking entries, but I would like gauge interest. I recently made a post advertising this ATV for sale. A guy responded right away and said he would take it. He then strung me out for ten days and failed to show up. So, I’m starting over. This is a 2001 Polaris Sportsman’s 400. I bought it new, it has been kept in my garage and well maintained. It is also low hours for the age. I was riding it about two months ago. I got off and shut it off, I walked back and got back on and turned the key and it did nothing. It is not currently running, but I think the problem is minor. I think it is in the kill switch, but I don’t know. It will come with a snow plow and a sprayer. I can deliver within a reasonable distance from Mooresville Indiana. 317-431-8666

These pups have pointed a lot of pigeons, but haven’t had a lot of exposure to Quail. I worked them a few days ago on released Quail. I’m just letting them figure it all out on their own. Point or knock them, whatever they want to do. I have them dragging a check cord so I can hopefully prevent them from catching a bird that doesn’t fly far. This is a short video of Caitlin.

Caitlin hit this bird a little awkwardly. She normally looks a little better on point. She is seven months old, she is letting me get in front and flush every time, and I’m shooting over her every time. She will also back as far as she can see. She’s ready to be broke. I’m going to wait until spring, she will be a little more mature and I will have more time when the days are getting longer.

Nice piece of work by Caitlin this evening. I’m shooting over every find now, with no issues. Immediately after this, my ATV wouldn’t start. So, I had to push it about a quarter of a mile. I’m sure I will be taking some Tylenol tomorrow.
