PLEASE REPORT ANY ANIMAL YOU FIND TO ANIMAL CONTROL
I see so many people taking stray cats/dogs, and just giving them to other people. For one thing, it is illegal to do that. For another thing, it is immoral. I wish people had a sense of empathy, but that sees to have gone out the window in recent years.
Consider your own pets. What if your dog was the one missing? What if your kids were screaming and crying each night, wanting to know what happened to their dog or cat? Then you find out that someone decided to give your dog away to someone else, because it was running loose. They figured it had been dumped, or they figured that it was abused and neglected. People make these assumptions about other peoples dogs, or cats, just because they are loose. There are so many reasons that an animal is loose. People steal pets from each other out of spite, anger, etc. Animals get scared and run away, out of fences, gates, front doors, cars, etc.
I had farm cats stolen from my home, because people felt that they were strays. They would feed them, and invite them into their homes. A year or two later, they would go to the vet and find out that the cat’s microchip says she/he actually belongs to someone, namely my child!! She had to deal with the probability that the cats were dead and had given up on ever seeing them again. The neighbors did this although the cats were well-fed, fixed, had collars on, and were obviously healthy. One was even found a couple hours away, when a vet checked for a chip.
I also had a dog stolen from my driveway. The person took the dog all the way to South Charlotte, changed his name, gave him a bath, bought him a new collar and tags, a new dog crate and bed, and had every intention to keep him. Then, they posted his picture in South Charlotte. Someone happened to see the post, and put it on a lost and found site, where I saw it. The “rescuer” made me jump through hoops to get this dog back. Mind you, all this happened in less than 12 hours!!
After those experiences, every dog and cat that I have, has been micro chipped. I can only hope that the cats that are missing, show up one day. Many people don’t think to microchip their pets, though. Their children are at home, crying, looking for their dogs or cats, and some person has made an assumption that the dog or cat is not cared for, because they can’t see it themselves. The animal could be in another state already, leaving pain and sadness behind.
Please do the right thing! The first place most people go, to look for their lost pets, is the website for Animal Control. Please just leave your dislike of animal control out of it, and do the right thing. All animals do NOT die, if reported. You can even foster for the stray hold, if you want to, but please give the people a chance to get their pets back, if they are missing them. Thanks and Merry Christmas 🎄
