Sakari Australian Shepherds started in the summer of 2004, when I, got my very first Aussies, "Novia" - McG's Ave Maria of Anie, RN. I keep a small amount of dogs so I can maintain my breeding program to a high standard. All live an indoor life of luxury, get groomed regularly, receive minimal vaccinations, get fed a high quality brand dog food with raw meat, and are given daily supplements. While
I am dedicated to producing healthy Australian Shepherds that have great temperaments, with nice structure and movement. I also strive for versatility - aiming to create the perfect mix between show and working lines in my breeding program. Breeding beautiful dogs that can go from the show ring, to working the farm, jumping through hoops, saving lives or simply making a wonderful family companion. I am well aware of the health issues that are carried within this wonderful breed. That is why all of the Aussies used in my breeding program are genetically tested for soundness of health (at a minimum of 2 years of age), based on the recommendations set forth by the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC). These include: Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), Canine Eye Research Foundation (CERF), Mutli-Drug Resistance 1 (MDR1), Hereditary Cataracts (HSF4), Pelger Huet Anomaly (PHA), and Brucellosis (for live cover breedings), along with other genetic tests that become available.
I put a great amount of thought into what I am trying to produce with each individual litter. I usually have a litter every couple of years. None of my breeding plans are set in stone and are subject to change until the actual breeding between the sire and the dam has taken place. Puppies are born and raised in the house with me and the family so they can become well socialized. Puppies are available to approved companion, performance and show/junior homes. Sold with a contract and written health guarantee against defects caused by genetics (ie, hip/elbow dysplasia, cataracts, epilepsy). As the owner/breeder of Sakari Australian Shepherds, I can proudly say I have no association with buying, selling or reproducing mixed/designer breeds. Nor am I involved with any type of pet shops or puppy mills. I produce only purebred Australian Shepherds, while following the USASA Code of Ethics. All of the Aussies used in my breeding program and their offspring are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA).
