Alle report…❤️ she’s found herself the best forever home we could ask for!
Hi Greg & Carla
Just returned from hunting SE ND over the weekend. Public land near Silver Lake, Rutland area. Kena stayed home, only had Alle. She did really well, I only had 2 shots in 2 days as that area evidently lost a lot of their bird population last winter. I shot one each day. We didn’t flush a single hen! Game warden came to check my license and told me he thought they had lost half their pheasants and at least half their deer population with the rough winter. We’ve hunted there for several years and had always seen good numbers of pheasants. Alle worked hard and tracked both the roosters I shot; when she pushed them into the cattails she went right in after him and made them flush. She didn’t see where the first one dropped but when I got close she smelled him and picked him up and brought him to me ( about 12 feet away). The second one she saw and got to where he dropped pretty quickly. He wasn’t quite dead and had buried himself in the tall grass about 10 ft. from where I had marked him. I just said “ find the bird, right here” and she worked the area hard for about 30 seconds until I heard a squeak behind me and she had him in her mouth, not quite dead. She gave him up when I said “ drop” and that was that. I wouldn’t have ever found that bird on my own unless I stepped on him. I think she had a blast, I know I did. She hunted hard all day Sat and about 4 hours yesterday morning. She came to whistle if she got a little far out, and did really well. She needs more repetitions and success to see her hard work pay off with a killed rooster, she’ll get that when we go to SD next month hopefully…
We were both pretty tired when I took this. Sorry I didn’t get one with the pheasant she retrieved. There will be more! When she gets on a scent, she switches into high gear. The second rooster I shot ( Sunday morning) she must have chased him for nearly 15
Moose came over to help pups learn about big dogs that are not their momma…he’s very good with pups! Thank you Andrew for bringing him over…
