We got some great news! Remember Cleopatra, our gravid female emporer scorpion? She finally had her babies! From our best count, she has about 20 to 25 babies on her back! Within the next couple weeks they will turn darker in color, and begin to wander off her back. At that point we can take them and out them in their own homes. We have a lot of deli cups to get ready!

I know we haven't posted in a while. It has been a hectic couple months, but we are still here!
We did end up losing Tokey, the vet said that even if we had brought him in the day we got him, he'd have had a hard fight. He was sick for months before we ever got him.
We also lost little Tortilla. He just never fully thrived. He would eat and received calcium, multivitamin, d3, had a HO UVB tube. He was active and always on the move and getting into shennanigans. Just one day, we woke up and the poor babe didn't make it. Hatchlings can be so incredibly delicate.
Our mature male Avicularia Avicularia, Rusty, finally passed too. He was an ancient man in Tarantula years. He matured back in August, so to make it to May before passing, pretty impressive.

Day one of save Tokey. He got his first critical care feeding. We use 2 parts herbivore to 8 parts carnivore, add calcium with d3, and pull up .9 ml of this. He can have up to .9 ml every other day. This is 30% of the intake he should be getting, but because he is so emaciated, any more could put added strain on his kidneys and liver.

If you look at his mouth, you can see the entrance to his trachea is towards the front of the mouth. So while hes mad and trying to bite, its easy to get food and water deep down into his throat where he cant just toss it out. Fingers crossed that this helps.

We also created a sterile quarantine home for him, with a drip system like you'd see with a chameleon. Sometimes they just dont drink from a bowl, so this can create a flowing water effect and entice him to drink. But we also can just syringe a little water into him too. Any water we get unto him will help his kidneys. Paper towels on the bottom will help to better monitor his output.

Come on Tokey, as long as you dont give up, neither will we!

Today, Tokey here, got a much needed trip to a vet. We got him 3 weeks ago. And he has yet to eat with us. We resorted to trying reptiboost to see if we could get that into him, and we had no luck.
We found an amazing Veterinarian who is very knowledgeable about reptiles who managed to fit us in pretty quickly.
He was dropped off for a few hours so they could run some testing, and after an xray it was determined that he was so emaciated that the rest of the testing was unsafe to perform. He has lost all his fat stores and is showing bone density loss. This poor guy was in very bad shape well before we got him.
The vet does not believe he will make it. But we have the tools and the plan made to give him the best chance at fighting that we can.

We got quite a surprise today.

So due to how fast Gorf had grown, and the fact that we hadn't seen any pads or heard any croaking, we assumed Gorf was a lady. Well. Gorf showed HIMSELF today and has fibally developed pads. Meaning Gorf is now a mature male! Hes double the size of our mature fantasy pacman, Mando. So we were certain that Gorf was a female. Joke was on us. 🤣

Threw together a quick bioactive enclosure while she took a bath. Normally we don't bathe our beardies, but little lady made quite a mess of herself in the car. 🤣
Thankfully Tortilla's enclosure has TONS of isopods, so we were able to load her enclosure up with some blues and oranges. As long as she doesn't eat all the pothos down to the nub, then it should grow very well. :)
She hss been introduced to one of our other ladies, because they were both same size, and they got along great. Which is awesome because Jabba likes to bob at Kylo. Poor boy.

We got a new baby. She came from a home that has 6 beardies, and they felt she wasn't getting the attention she deserved. Shes such a sweetie, and you can tell she was very well loved. And she is absolutely GORGEOUS. She is a Leatherback too just like Kylo. I see some very gorgeous babies in the future. 🤣

We were beginning to think the oothecas were duds!! But today one began to hatch!! Total, we can have close to 200 babies from each ootheca. We have 2 currently swt up to hatch, and 2 in the fridge in a simulated winter. When we are ready for those, we pull them out and within a month those should hatch too.

Look at all the praying mantis babies!!

Hey all, we are going to be running a bit late. We got stuck on the freeway behind what we believe is a pretty bad accident. Multiple emergency vehicles just flew past us. We are working on getting off and going around. Will update closer to when we can start our stream

Come join us tomorrow Feb 14th, 7pm eastern time, we'll be streaming on Facebook. Hang out and watch pets feast.

We have mealworms for sale! Over the next day or so we will be pulling out adult worms and putting them in cups in the fridge. We decided on this once our worms all started to pupate! We knew it was time to pull and put them in the fridge to induce a sort of hibernation. It allows them to stay alive for a while without turning into beetles!

The very first batch of our mealworms is pupating! We have so many mealworms, its absolutely insane. ...

So, we discovered hooks on our pink toe that we just got last week. And based on how hes acting, hes definitely an old grandpa. So he went to visit a lady friend, and with any luck the pairing will be successful. 🤞He does not have long left on this earth, pet store said last molt was back in August, so hes definitely an old man.

Darling Darla, named because she has a little alfalfa tuff of hair between her eyes. But, being a little lady, had to be named after his girlfriend... lol. Though, apparently Dozer may have been a more fitting name.
