🚨 We Have a Website! 🐾

We’re excited to share that Friends of the Morrow County Dog Shelter now has an official website on our own domain!

Why does this matter?
🔹 Having a professional web presence adds credibility and transparency, especially when applying for grants or asking for support.
🔹 It gives us a central home for basic info like how to help, how we support the shelter, and what we do with the funds you generously donate.
🔹 It’s not replacing Facebook—we’ll still be active here! The site is more of a helpful, static resource.

And here’s the part we really want to emphasize:
💰 This website isn’t costing the group a penny.
📌 Hosting is provided free of charge through DreamHost's nonprofit program.
📌 All domain and development costs are being covered by a volunteer.
That means your donations are not funding this website or admin costs to run it.

We’ve also launched some new email addresses using our domain, but don’t worry, our old Gmail accounts will still work during the transition.

🛠️ The site has been thoughtfully tested, but if you happen to spot anything that looks off—or if you have a suggestion to help us make it even better—we’d love to hear from you. Just drop us a message!

Thanks for continuing to support the dogs and for being part of our community. ❤️ Check out the site and let us know what you think!

🐾 Ready for adoption at the Prison Training Program – Gia 🐾

Handler says:
“Gia has great leash manners and a low-key desire to be friends with every dog and human on Earth. Her obedience is much better than pet quality, and her house manners are excellent. Out for a walk, she’ll sit, c**k her head to the side, perk her ears, and look directly at a stranger as if to say, ‘Can I be your friend?’ Gia would fit into any home.”

Hello! I’m Gia—I adore cuddles, affection, and just being close to my people 🥰. I'm learning commands at the prison and I even know how to use a dog door 🚪🐾. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion to brighten your everyday life, I might just be your perfect match! ✨

Gia will stay at the prison until she is adopted, so please make an appointment to see Gia by calling the Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead, OH at 419-946-1747 📞.

🎉 Our Adoptable Dogs Boards project is officially live! 🎉

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes on this project, and we’re thrilled to finally see it come to life! These eye-catching boards feature photos of adoptable dogs from the Morrow County Dog Shelter—and thanks to a team of amazing volunteers, they’ll be updated regularly to help our pups get the visibility they deserve. 🐶❤️

First, a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated volunteers who made this possible—contacting businesses, designing and hanging the boards, and committing to keeping them current. We couldn’t have done it without you:
👉 Claudia, Ravena, Tracey, Jade and Caitlin!
(If we’ve accidentally missed anyone who helped out along the way, please know we’re grateful for your contribution too!)

We also want to shine a spotlight on the generous local businesses who have stepped up to support the cause by hosting these boards in their spaces. Your kindness is helping these dogs get seen—and hopefully, get home. 🏡🐾 Over the next few days and weeks, we’ll be sharing photos of the boards in action and highlighting each of the wonderful businesses who are helping our dogs get seen. Today’s post is just the beginning—stay tuned!

👉 Cote Winery, Cardington Cafe, Cardington-Lincoln Public Library, Bunker's Mill Winery, Cardington Home & Auto, Suz-E-Q's and All Star Grooming!!

💬 If you spot a board while you're out and about, snap a pic, leave a comment, and tag the business to show some love. Your engagement helps amplify the message and shows these businesses that their support is making a difference!

If you're interested in any of these dogs (or others that aren't featured on a board), please come see them at the Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead, OH or call 419-946-1747 for more information.

🐾 Ready for adoption at the Prison Training Program – Spot 🐾

Handler says:
“Spot’s excellent leash manners have become reliable and consistent. His obedience is crisp—as long as he feels safe—and he lives to please his human. Spot loves Fetch and plays well with dogs who don’t try to bully him. He’s a perfect, gentle companion for a quiet, gentle person or family. He gets along with most dogs that get along with him and absolutely loves people. Cuddling is in his Top One favorite things to do. What he lacks, he makes up for in pure enthusiasm and fun. All Spot really wants in life is a happy human to be with… and cuddles.”

Spot is the kind of dog who’s not looking for a big, noisy life—he’s looking for you. Someone to toss the ball, offer a warm lap, and share the simple joys of being together. He’s full of love, has a soft heart, and just wants to make someone smile. Could that someone be you?

Spot will stay at the prison until he is adopted, so please make an appointment to see Spot by calling the Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead, OH at 419-946-1747 📞.

📣 Volunteer Meeting Update

Hi friends! Just a quick note to let everyone know that we’ll be skipping our July volunteer meeting. With the Independence Day holiday and lots of folks out and about enjoying summer, we’ve decided to hold off until next month.

We appreciate everything our volunteers do—whether you're helping at the shelter, updating adoptable boards, donating, sharing our posts, or simply cheering us on. 💛 Your continued support means the world to us and the dogs!

Stay safe, stay cool, and keep spreading the word about our adoptables. 🐾 We’ll be back in touch soon with updates and our next meeting date!

🐾 Ready for adoption at the Prison Training Program – Kasey 🐾

Handler says:
“Kasey has mellowed a good bit. She is as friendly as ever—just as eager to meet people or dogs—but now she’s more low key, waiting for her human’s permission rather than rushing over. That gives her very nice leash manners. Her obedience is quite good, and she has a world-class lap cuddle. Most of all, she’s simply fun to keep company with!”

Kasey is a lively, sweet, and funny little girl—about 2 years old and only 21lbs of pure love and joy. Some say she looks like a mini Australian Shepherd mix, but all she knows is she’s soooo pretty 😍. She’s not overly playful but does enjoy a fun toy or two. She seems to be crate trained, gets along with some of her doggie friends, and could be a wonderful addition to a home with another dog. Kasey is the perfect blend of spunky and snuggly—energetic when it’s playtime, and mellow when it’s cuddle time. She’s just waiting for the right family to share all her love with 💗.

Kasey will stay at the prison until she is adopted, so please make an appointment to see Kasey by calling the Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead, OH at 419-946-1747 📞.

🎪 Wish List Spotlight: Help Us Shine at Events! 🐾

We love getting out in the community—whether it's fundraisers, or just spreading the word about the amazing dogs at the shelter. But... we're currently without a pop-up tent, and summer sun (or surprise rain) can be a real challenge! 🌞🌧️

If you’ve been looking for a simple way to make a big impact, this is it. A tent like this one (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BY14V5PQ/) would help us stay shaded and dry while we’re out representing our group, the shelter and the dogs.

Know someone who might love to sponsor this for us? Or maybe you have a gently used 10x10 pop-up tent to spare (we would need to keep it, not just borrow it)?

❤️ Every little bit helps us do more for the dogs. Message us if you’d like to help or have questions—we’d be so grateful!

🐾 Ready for adoption at the Prison Training Program – Elliot 🐾

Handler says:
“Elliot has excellent leash manners and flawless obedience. He will usually wait for permission before tracking a new scent, which is rare and wonderful for a hound 🐾👃. He is remarkably quiet but will happily sing for you on request 🎶. His house manners are simply exceptional 🏡—indoors or out, he's polite and well-behaved. He considers cats to be furniture and ignores them 🐱. He plays well with other dogs and with humans, and he loves a good game of fetch 🎾. Whether outdoors by your side or cuddled up on the couch, Elliot is content just to be with his person. He’s a world-class cuddler and truly the perfect house hound ❤️.”

Elliot will stay at the prison until he is adopted, so please make an appointment to see Elliot by calling the Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead, OH at 419-946-1747 📞.

We wish every dog had as many people wanting them as these two do... 🥺

UPDATE: 6/27/2025----Abandoned dogs
Left in a crate (not the crates shown) along with cats (Humae Society has been notified about the cats).
If you have any info to their story, before being left on a street on Mt. Gilead PLEASE call the shelter at 419-946-1747.
Comments will be shut off. These dogs will have tons of interest due to what they are (which makes the abandonment that much more confusing)......and our shelter is Already overwhelmed with dogs (due to the continuous intakes) so we are trying to reduce the questions and need for our over busy staff to be on FB.
They are microchipped so we are attempting to track down history now.

UPDATE #3: 6/26/2026-----
4 new stray arrivals
2 male, 2 female
Border Collie mixes
We were told they were running loose on a property for nearly 2 months in Congress Township.
No Collars, No IDs, No Microchips
We have named them:
Moose Tracks
Rocky Road
Peaches
Cream
**the photo is TERRIBLE and we are aware of that. It was chaotic, to say the least, when they arrived....so we got what we we could.
Individual photos will be taken as soon as we can get them done.
No one, in 2 months, has contacted us about missing them so we don't anticipate anyone will be calling about claiming them......unfortunately.
