This is the reality of grooming puppies! It’s not easy and don’t expect the first couple grooms to be perfect because 9 times out of 10 it’s all we can do to keep them still. 🤣
This is why I’m so adamant about starting off super young and just introducing them slowly to the grooming process because it’s really easy to ruin a puppy on grooming. Slow and steady wins the race!
I like to start them as young as 8 weeks. Some breeders will even expose them to brushes and nail clipping earlier prior to when you pick them up, this helps us out a TON! Their first visit is usually just a bath, blow/brush out, nails, and sanitary trim. If they allow me, I will also do some light trimming around the face. We will work our way to a full groom each time. 💜
Very important information!
This is why it’s so important to keep up with your pets grooming! Matting is common so don’t be afraid to let us know before your appointment if you know your dogs is matted or possibly pelted. And please, do not get mad at us when we say we will have to shave your dog! We will do everything we can to save the hair but in situations like this it’s just not possible or fair to the dog. I completely understand things happen and please don’t ever think I will be upset if your dog has some matting, I’m here to help !
Revy enjoying her air massage!
m case you were wondering what a “blow out” is for when your pup gets groomed, here’s your answer! It’s a higher intensity blow dryer for dogs and especially useful for deshedding your pup! Although we use it normally every time after a bath (some dogs won’t tolerate it and have to dry a different and slower way) this does not hurt your pup in any way! A lot of them actually enjoy it and feels like a massage. Usually if A dog isn’t a fan of it, it’s because of the noise but there’s many sound dampening techniques and products we can use to help! I do everything in my power to have your pup be as comfortable as they can while they’re with me and this is a super cool part of the grooming process. It fluffs the coat and helps me have better scissor work on curly coats also!
