Thanksgiving leftovers can be just as dangerous as the feast itself. Here's how to keep your pets safe.

After the meal, turkey bones become extremely hazardous. Cooked bones splinter and can cause serious stomach or intestinal damage. Store all leftovers in sealed containers on high shelves or in the refrigerator immediately. Secure your trash with a tight lid or put it outside in a closed bin—garbage raids are a common cause of pet emergencies during the holidays. Even leftover fatty foods like gravy, skin, and casseroles can cause pancreatitis in pets.

If your pet gets into leftovers or the trash, chat with us online or call at 800-213-6680. We're here 24/7, even on Thanksgiving.

This is why we always recommend heartworm prevention. Heartworms come from mosquitos, so, even if your dog never touches the ground outside, they can still contract them.

Smokey X, our beloved retired Bluetick Coonhound mascot, visited the UT College of Veterinary Medicine this week for his regularly scheduled check-in with our oncology team. His weight is holding steady (TBH, he’s had to watch his caloric intake since puphood). Despite his cancer diagnosis, Smokey’s appetite remains undiminished, and his energy level continues to be good.
This week, Smokey X spent a memorable night howling at the Northern Lights! The Hudson family is touched by the strong sense of community and compassion that defines Vol Nation.

Our Farm story.......

Ashlee is the owner and solo veterinarian of Salt and Light House Call Veterinarian. During veterinary school, she was having a difficult time focusing on the intense studies to the point of considering a career change. Not seriously considering it, but considering it as a fun distraction. It just happened to be Hallmark Christmas movie season, and she watched one of the many with a Christmas tree farm. What a cool idea to use land to grow Christmas cheer! Ashlee began researching the idea and adding items to her Pinterest board. Again, it was just a distraction that she wasn't actually serious about. Then, she casually mentioned it to her mom, Gwen, and aunt, Betty Ann. Surprisingly, they loved the idea, and actually wanted to learn more! The rest, as they say, is history.

All members of the family are involved and vital to the farm's growth - from attending and learning Christmas tree growers meetings to w**d eating to running the cash register.
