Good morning! Just a reminder that I do require proof of rabies, so if you haven’t given me a current copy of your pup’s shots, please make sure I get a copy. If your dog has medical exemptions, let me know and I’ll call and speak with your vet about that as well. Thank you!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to address something: my phone has been absolutely flooded with spam calls lately and they are leaving messages and it’s completely jamming up my voicemail. I cleared it out less than a week ago, block as many as I can, and there’s already 10 new voicemails left by spam calls in the last few days. If you try to get ahold of me and the mailbox is full, please either text me or try again later. Text is preferred because I’ll see it quicker and can respond faster. I’m sorry. I’m trying to keep up with it, but doing that on top of actually doing my job can be tricky. Thank you for your understanding and patience!

I started grooming just shy of 11 years ago. In that amount of time, I’ve kind of carved out a little niche for myself in this area where I’m really good with senior dogs and special needs dogs. I’m a sucker for a frosty face, what can I say? There’s a pretty hefty downside that comes with that, though, and that’s the amount of loss that comes with doing senior dogs. The rainbow bridge has collected several of my clients over the years and while I accept that it’s part of the job, sometimes, it’s really hard. I’ve lost six dogs in the last six weeks to the rainbow bridge and many of them weren’t even that old. Sometimes I can prepare myself mentally when the dog is 18 with congestive heart failure or cancer. Sometimes, I don’t get that chance. One of the pups lost was one of my very first clients.

Please know, each and every dog I groom holds a special place in my heart. I consider all of them “my kids” even though i’m not taking them home with me every night. I love their personalities (yes, even the sassy ones) and always do my best to ensure they have the best experience when they are with me.

I know this post is kind of sad, but I promise I’ll be okay. I know several of you genuinely care about me and can tell when something is wrong so I figured I’d just try to put it out there ahead of time that the loss has been extra heavy lately and even though it’s hard, I’m so glad I got to meet each and every single one of the pups that’s come in my shop, for however long I had with them. Give your pups some snuggles for me tonight. 💕

Just a heads up, the road construction on 121 is causing a big slow down, if you are trying to get to my shop. I know it’s stressful and I wish there was something I could do. Hopefully they will be done quickly and we will have a beautiful new road to drive on!

You’ll notice a pattern with the certificates I have. They focus on safety and sanitation. These are the 2 most important things for me when you bring your dog to me, because they go hand in hand. The safety of your dog is of utmost importance and that includes doing my best to keep them safe from things our eyes can’t see, like germs and viruses. As you’ll see, these certificates span from 2017 to 2022, so this isn’t a one time class, for me.

The handling techniques I’ve learned have allowed me to work with anxious dogs, senior dogs, and special needs dogs. When I got into grooming, I didn’t know this would be my niche. I’ve taken a wide variety of classes from breed specific cuts to skin care, and while those are also important, these are the classes I keep coming back to because these skills are what I want me and my business to be known for. Safety, compassion, gentleness.

I can’t tell you all how much I appreciate you entrusting me with your furry family member 💕

Good evening! I come bearing bad news: Square is currently having some issues (again 🙄) so unfortunately I’m going to be unable to take cards tomorrow (Wednesday, Feb 7th) and possibly longer, if things aren’t sorted. I generally try to be as flexible as possible with payment, so I do apologize for this inconvenience. I am still accepting cash and check!

Thank you so much for understanding and I can’t wait to see you and your pups soon! 💕

I’m taking new clients again! I have a small handful of slots that I am opening up to new clients, so if you are interested, your dog is less than 25lbs, and you want to get on a recurring schedule, feel free to reach out! You can call or text me at 217-454-6152 for more information.

For a little background on me, I’ve been in the grooming industry for over 10 years now, and Fly’n Fur has been a part of the Mt. Zion community since 2016. I have taken classes for continuing education on everything from skin care, to breed specific cuts, to safety and handling, to sanitation! I look forward to hearing from you!

Good morning! With the weather starting to really act like winter lately, I just wanted to remind everyone that I do not charge for last minute cancellations due to weather. You and your dog’s safety always takes priority over a haircut. I hope everyone stays safe and warm over the next few days!

A recent article posted by the AVMA. Still no updated information about the bacterium they found but it seems several vets aren't thinking this is anything to panic about, just be aware and take precautions about having your dog in large dog communities. Please know: it is very common to see an increase in respiratory illnesses this time of year because much like people, dogs can have allergies, a bronchitis of sorts, kennel cough, and various other respiratory bugs that have been around for a very long time. Just wanted to ensure I'm keeping up with any new information coming out to help keep your dogs as safe as possible!

Canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC) is in the news, and clients understandably have questions. Here’s information you can share to help address their concerns.

11/27/2023

As we get back from this holiday weekend, I am going to ask that you please pick up your dogs as quickly as possible. With this respiratory illness that’s going around, it is very important that I get dogs in and out as quickly as possible to help minimize exposure to other dogs and ensure that I have kennel space for everyone to go in so I can keep everyone separated. Thank you so much for your cooperation and understanding. We will get through this together! ❤️

I want you all to know I am aware of the mysterious illness that is in the news. I’ve been reading through articles published by Cornell University’s research center as well as other articles. So far, what I’ve seen is that there are signs pointing to it being bacterial and not viral. This means they can investigate treatment options in the way of antibiotics. They suspect it’s spreading largely by close contact with other dogs, shared water bowls/toys, and coming into contact with any sort of respiratory droplets from infected dogs. I’ve increased sanitizing levels back to what they were during the height of covid, and unfortunately this does mean everyone has to be kenneled. I want you to know: it is not in Decatur yet that I know of. These are simply precautionary steps that I’m taking to ensure the safety of my clients. I do not want to cause you to worry because this is actually an illness that has been in the US for close to a year. It picked up in August due to some large dog events, from my understanding. As several of you know, I have taken multiple certification classes in sanitation and cleanliness and I’m utilizing every ounce of knowledge from those classes to keep your dogs as safe as I possibly can without changing my business structure.

With the holiday season, I ask that everyone please keep an eye on your dog and let me know if there are any signs that your pup isn’t feeling well. Lethargic, coughing, runny nose, etc. If your pup is showing any symptoms, we’ll need to reschedule. I know that’s not ideal when you have company coming and you want your dog to look super cute for the holidays, but the safety of all my clients is top priority. As further information becomes available, I promise to keep you all up to date. 💕

Good morning! Happy Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for each and every one of you who has supported me over the last 10 years. Fly’n Fur has only been in business for 7 of those 10 but some of you have been with me since the very beginning of my career! I’m so honored to be someone that you trust with your pup. I hope everyone is able to celebrate today in a way that makes you happy! I’m closed the rest of the week, but I’ll be back in the shop on Tuesday! 💕

Now that the company has made the announcement, I can post something on here! I’ve let some of you in on the good news but I didn’t want to share publicly until the company made the announcement. I’ve accepted an ambassador position with Affordable Grooming Shears who is a vendor of mine that I’ve used for years. My position with them means I’ll be doing video reviews about their products as well as helping develop products to improve grooming life for my fellow pet groomers! This means your pets could be featured in upcoming product review videos! If you do not want your pet used for these videos, please feel free to let me know so I can respect that ❤️

As always, thank you for your continued support. I wouldn’t be here without you all!

Our Story

I (Megan) started grooming 6.5 years ago for a woman in Decatur. I apprenticed under her for 2.5 years before she decided to retire. I took the leap of faith to start my own business so that I could continue to offer my grooming services to the Decatur area, while running the business in a way that best suited myself and my clients. I moved my business to Mt. Zion in July of 2016 and have loved every minute of it. Sometimes I can’t believe it has been that long already! Thanks to the wonderful community that Mt. Zion offers, and my amazing clients, my business quickly began booming!

I am a huge believer in continuing education, and I attend at least 1 trade show each year where I take many classes in areas from grooming technique, handling skills, safety, and business management. I have completed one skin care course, and am working towards getting a second certificate in a much more extensive skin course. This allows me to have more extensive knowledge in how to best take care of my clients’ skin issues! I am also a Reiki Master Practitioner which allows me to work with pets on an energetic level as well. I also assist at dog shows when one of my mentors brings her show dogs down this way! This gives me a unique opportunity to really see how breeds should be cut and get grooming tips from the best! I tend to get bored if I don’t keep learning, so I am always striving to learn more and be better.

Last year, my amazing husband joined the Fly’n Fur business to become my assistant! He has gained knowledge in how to properly bathe your pups so that we ensure that each dog is cleaned and conditioned properly, brushed out, nails clipped, ears cleaned, and given a good once or twice over to check for any potential health issues. He is also the CEO of puppy playtime 😉 He absolutely adores getting time to sit or lay on the ground and wrestle with the dogs while they wait for their owners to come pick them up. His nurturing demeanor has been a wonderful addition to the shop, and he has really bonded with so many of our clients! He attended a pet CPR class with me, as well as taking sanitation classes so that we can provide as safe of a spa day for your beloved pets as possible. ❤️
