🐾 Louis LOVES to greet new people, but oftentimes he gets a little over exuberant with his greetings.
🐾 Here, we are working on generalizing Louis’ “Go say hi” and “thank you” cues. He has already been taught these cues so we took his training on the road and are practicing in a new environment (a distracting pet store) to help him understand these behaviors in new situations.
🐾 Louis’ “go say hi” cue let’s him know that he has permission from his handler to greet someone. His “thank you” cue let’s him know it’s time to come back to handler because the greeting is over.

Meet Milo! He is a sweet little momma’s boy who struggles with a lack of confidence. When something new or unexpected shows up in his environment, he starts to bark in order to get the scary “monster” to go away.
🐾 At the beginning of this session, Milo was so concerned about Emily (on the left) that he wouldn’t eat treats, was barking constantly, and was unable to focus.
🐾 We worked on making sure to give Milo lots of space and freedom of movement using a long line, offered him lots of brain brakes using treat scatters in the grass, and showed him that he can look at Emily and then refocus back on his mom for a yummy treat.
🐾 By the end of the session, Milo felt comfortable enough to approach Emily on his own and take treats that she tossed out to him. Look at you go, little man!

You go, Miss Jo!
🐾 JoJo is a very sweet girl who struggles with feeling overwhelmed when she sees other dogs. Her normal MO would be barking, lunging, and pulling towards the other dog.
🐾 JoJo’s guardians have spent countless hours working on building her confidence and showing her that she can rely on them.
🐾 The result? This session resulted in JoJo being the closest to another on-leash dog that she has even been without a reaction. Her mom and I were both so proud!!
🐾 Reactivity can be stressful and frustrating to work through. Do you have a reactive pup at home? Comment below! We’d love to help!

🐾 Meet Daisy! She is an adolescent Australian Shepherd who struggles with novel stimuli and feeling safe and comfortable around them. Her go-to response is to bark to make the “scary monsters” go away.
🐾 Daisy was an absolute STAR during this session. To our left we had three young children and their parents under the pavilion, playing. To our right we had a park with several children running around and playing. While this may not seem strange to us, Daisy was very uncertain.
🐾 Here, she shows off by looking at the triggers several different times and offers focus back on her handler!! This is HUGE!
🐾 These are my absolute favorite posts to make because I love seeing how far my students have come! I’m so proud of you Miss Daisy!!
Training should be fun! 🥳
🐾 Today, Duke took a field trip to a local park so we took advantage of the free playground.
🐾 Encouraging your pup to interact with novel stimuli and textures, and reinforcing them when they do, is a wonderful way to help build confidence!
🐾 Not only is Duke working on his “Off” cue, but he’s also building strength and awareness of his body. As a large breed dog, this is incredibly important to help with health and longevity.

Sully is such a sweet and wonderful boy, but he feels uncertain with novel stimuli, people, and situations. The first several times we worked together, he hardly wanted to take treats, was practically glued to his mom’s side, and our sessions had to be incredibly short.
🐾 Now he barks only a few times when he first sees me, takes treats from my hands, and is offering so many wonderful behaviors! Way to go Sully!!
🐾 Pups that struggle with fear or reactivity often struggle with a lack of confidence. By building a high history of reinforcement and utilizing a high rate of reinforcement, we can show them that they can make wonderful decisions and the world isn’t such a scary place!
