When bringing horses back into work, it’s super important to review (or teach) lateral exercises. These exercises keep a horses mind working just as much as the body.

A rainy Sunday calls for pampering my own horse! Queso always enjoys her massages and is very expressive. In fact, her massage must have looked so good that the dogs got in line!

Please don't quibble over your equine therapists fee. You are paying for much more than their time on the day. If you want the best therapist for your horse then please take a moment to understand what makes a great practitioner.

A great practitioner lives and breathes equine therapy. The day they pick up their first anatomy book they get this thirst for knowledge which can never really be quenched. The more information they drink in, the more thirsty they become. A great practitioner is a lifelong learner and they never stop thinking about it.

When you hand your money over to your therapist, you are not paying them for the hour they have just spent with your horse. You are acknowledging the hours and hours of time that they spend, reading, researching, listening, watching, travelling to conferences, talking to peers and specialists, thinking and dreaming about everything related to their area of expertise.

A great practitioner is always striving to be the very best and most informed therapist that they can be, so that ultimately your horse can get the best possible treatment.

Not every therapist is cut from the same cloth, but the best put many more than the required hours into their professional development. If you want the best for your horse, value your therapist and please don't quibble over their fee. 😍

Here’s a little before-and-after of a mare I recently got the opportunity to work on. She has been suffering on and off lameness for many years and soft tissue damage a year and a half ago. Her movement/comfort decreased substantially after her last injury. After her first massage (seen here) she is much more balanced and has more fluid movement. I look forward to working with her more to see how she can progress!

The fist two clips are before, the second two are after.

What difference can one massage make? Take a look here! These simple before and after pictures show a HUGE difference in the hind end muscle definition, specifically in the biceps femoris and the semitendinosis.

Every massage is ended with some stretches that everyone can incorporate into their daily routine with their horses. Stretching your horses muscles will increase range of motion and decrease stiffness.

If you have been wondering about getting your horses massaged and are curious about what it will look like, here’s an idea! Every horse deserves to feel their best and it is my job to help them achieve maximum comfort.
