Approximately 3 months ago we adopted "Fancy Like Hoosier" AKA Cowboy. He's an across the board clear, CKC corgi. We love Cowboy. He came from a home with no children but settled into our house full very quickly. He was already living a farm life so he's even more pleased that he has complete freedom here. He helps Tad herding the goats. He's pretty sure he's top dog but when he growls to lay claim of my affection, the other males don't even look at him. So they're pretty sure he's at the bottom 😂 Full of personality, excellent puppy babysitter, people adoring , and a true farm dog. His unique coloring had nothing to do with my choice to bring him home but it is icing on the cake to have a dog with brilliant blue eyes and his interesting merle color.

Little Bear , now named Bjorn, has settled in in Alaska and his owner Sara has been keeping us updated on his progress. Here with us he was such a good little boy, He definitely had his own soft spot with me. It's so good to see him having such a happy dog life with devoted owners and an older collie friend who dotes on him all the time.

The old fashioned farm collie was a legend in the early 1900's.

Homer Davenport wrote of the working collie Fly on the Geer farm near Silverton where he lived for some time when he was a boy (the Geers were his mother's family). In a newspaper article in 1907 he related: "I remember once when 'By' Geer and a herder were moving a band of 2500 head of sheep over onto a new range and were driving at night . . . a rain was falling that made the sheep hard to keep together. It was slow work. Fly had been very active. She was covering lots of ground, and it was quite dark. But she worked without orders. She seemed in complete control, and her sharp bark could be heard at intervals. Finally they missed her bark; an hour or so had passed without hearing it. The men were alarmed, as they knew that without her in the dark they would possibly lose a hundred sheep every mile without missing them. They shouted for her, but no Fly. She had gone. They decided that the only thing to do was to stop where they were. They got around their flock as soon as they could and got them bunched. They knew they had let some sheep drop behind and that old Fly was with them. But they thought it was strange she didn't hurry them along, as she was known all over the state as a fast worker. They waited and waited. Daylight came and no Fly. Finally about noon she came with 250 sheep. She was tired and traveling slow. One ewe had given birth to a lamb, and old Fly had gathered it by the back of the neck, as she would carry one of her pups.

Shepherdess Louise loves her sheep, so she got married in a woolen wedding dress made entirely from shearings from her own flock. She also carried a Bo-beep style crook instead of a bouquet.

Sapphire is the only one still here! Several people have inquired but no one has come to see her. She's still here! Somebody made a mistake, either myself , or the dog registry Little Licorice has her name as Sapphire, which is a great name on her papers that I just printed off. Well, either way I'm going to start calling her Sapphire because that lends more accuracy and whoever becomes her new family can definitely pick any name they like 🤗 but here are some candid photos of her and a couple of poses. She's the sweetest, prettiest thing in black.

This was my heart puppy for this litter. She was in my potential keeper list since I was choosing a tad daughter from this litter to keep. But she is now reserved and going to a home in Texas and we're so happy she's going to have a loving family but boy I'm going to cry. I thought about just keeping both her and her sister until they were older but I remember doing that in the past keeping two to decide later. And when I did that I regretted not finding the dog I did not decide to keep a home when she was young. She would have been happier that way. So I'm consoling myself with this thought ! Little Spice is reserved.
