Huge thanks to Dr. Bergstrom! GB got a hoof trim and dental! He’s estimated to be around 30 years old, and his molars are pretty warn down and he has one last “dagger” of a tooth hanging on, but Dr. Bergstrom was able to fix that.

The farrier gave him a much-needed trim, and GB is already strutting in the right direction. Huge shoutout to the team making him feel his best—because even at 30, a guy deserves to look and feel fabulous!

✨ Our Sweet Mini Found Her Forever Family! ✨

This little gem of a mini has been adopted!!

This family did all the things! They came out for a meet-and-greet, took her for a test walk (yep, like a test drive 😆), joined in on a playdate. Now, this lucky little girl has her very first pony—and she’s so dedicated to taking care of her! 🥰 Bonus: her brother has joined in, too, and they’re such a cute team! 🐴💞

A HUGE shoutout to Sharon Dudley for fostering this sweet girl and making sure she was all dolled up and ready for her big day! We couldn’t have done it without you, Sharon! 🥳💐

Here’s to lots of happy adventures ahead!

A little over two weeks ago, a senior donkey we named GB (“Good Boy”) took his freedom walk from the livestock auction—all thanks to your incredible generosity!

Together, we raised $2,885 for GB’s rescue and care. To ensure his golden years are filled with love and comfort, we’ve created GB’s Golden Years Fund. Your donations have already made a big difference, with some funds used immediately and the rest earmarked for his ongoing care throughout the year:

Auction fee: $1,000 (fulfilled)
Hay and feed: $425
Farrier care: $400
Initial veterinary appointment (vaccines, dental, sheath cleaning): $400
Emergency reserve: $660

He is settling into his long-term foster home under the loving care of Nancy w/Sage Donkey Foundation. Nancy is a compassionate donkey whisperer, and GB will be surrounded by a herd of long-eared friends finally living the life he deserves.

Thank you for giving GB—and so many others—a second chance at life! 🫏❤️

🚪💔 From Isolation to Hope: One Step Closer

Update: Two of our boys hit the road yesterday, but our 12-year-old Appaloosa threw us a curveball with a complication this morning. With some TLC, we’re hopeful he’ll be back on track, and the rest of us can head home tomorrow.

Gelding older stallions comes with risks, but for these boys, it was their only chance at a better life.

Our older paint stallion (17-19) reminds us why this was worth the risk—he presses against his stall door when someone leaves, silently pleading, “Please don’t go.” 🥺 No horse should live a life so lonely. The bright side-they’re taking their first steps toward a brighter future. ❤️

UPDATE: Wow! ✨🫏✨ What an incredible group of humans rallied around this donkey today! Now he’s tucked in for the night with a full belly 🍀. He’ll remain in quarantine for a bit, and we’ve scheduled a thorough veterinary exam 🏥🩺 to ensure he gets the best possible care. Thank you for helping this senior guy

ps He still needs a name—drop your suggestions in the comments and help us welcome him to his new life! ❤️

We're at the auction to help give a senior donkey a new lease on life. 🐴 This old fellow was found wandering 19 days ago near the illegal dumping site for deceased animals (see our prior post). With cataracts and a gentle spirit, he's been living in a very small, dark enclosure at the livestock yard for 19 days and remains unclaimed. 💔 According to Idaho state statute, estray livestock are held by the Brand Inspector and, if unclaimed, are sold at public auction. We want to offer him a soft landing and a peaceful retirement, but we need your help. 🌟 We normally try and help animals before they reach the auction. However, today we are making an exception. Let's come together to give this deserving old guy the world he deserves. ❤️🙏

⚠️⚠️Tragic Loss: Allegedly Horse Dies Under Care of Animal Cruelty Defendants After Court Lifts Restrictions 💔

A shocking tragedy has unfolded in Teton County, where a horse reportedly died under the care of Roger Reilly and Tori Tropf, both awaiting trial on charges of animal cruelty.

On Christmas Day, the horse reportedly died after being down for nearly 18 hours without any human intervention. The horse was later dumped a mile away from the property. Another horse remains on-site, reportedly showing signs of lameness.

This incident stems from a recent ruling by newly elected **Judge Daniel R. Clark**, who lifted pre-trial restrictions barring Reilly and Tropf from possessing or working with equines. The Defense attorney argued the restrictions unduly limited the defendants’ ability to earn a living, contending that the allegations involved “only a 10- to 60-minute incident with a single horse.” The Defense further insisted that Reilly and Tropf should be permitted to “go about their lives before the charge.” Despite concerns expressed by **Prosecuting Attorney Bailey Smith**, Judge Clark deemed the prohibition on possessing or working with horses “overly burdensome,” maintaining that such conditions must be “the least restrictive possible.” ⚖️

👉This Is Not An Isolated Event- https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8klIuNVx7Z3QrMUWODghGMI7_Tx-KRtt&si=oj_JnKiqG29o03uN

Despite the report of the deceased horse, neither the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office nor the Idaho State Department of Agriculture has acted to protect the remaining equines, leaving them at continued risk.

Disturbing Allegations of Retaliation
In addition to animal welfare concerns, witnesses have reported acts of alleged retaliation by the defendants, including:
- Reported blaring sirens when a reporting party arrives home. 🚨
- Allegedly blocking access to property with snow barricades. ❄️
- Allegedly violating court-issued no-contact order**. ❌

Such actions not only endanger those who report wrongdoing but also undermine the judicial process meant to protect vulnerable animals and individuals.

A Call for Immediate Action
This tragic incident underscores the pressing need for **stronger safeguards** for both animals and witnesses in Teton County. Advocacy groups and concerned residents are urging local authorities to:
1. Remove the remaining equines from the defendants’ care without delay.
2. Rigorously enforce no-contact orders and other legal protections to safeguard witnesses.
3. Hold accountable anyone who engages in retaliatory behavior against those who reported the wrongdoing.

Community members are urged to **take action** by reaching out to local authorities and representatives to request immediate measures to protect the remaining animals and ensure justice.

✨ Rainey Update! ✨
True to her spunky personality, Rainey is not exactly a fan of stall rest—this girl has spirit! She’s rocking a wrap on her foot that needs to be changed daily, along with another bandage that gets refreshed every few days. She’s also on antibiotics to help her heal.

We’d love to hear your ideas for keeping her entertained during this downtime (besides her trusty hay bag). Drop your favorite stall rest tips in the comments to help us keep Rainey happy and engaged as she heals!

A HUGE thank you to all who donated directly to her procedure, and Giving Tuesday supporters! You rock, and your generosity directly helped Rainey! 💛

We also want to give a special shoutout to the amazing Stella's Shelter Fund This incredible organization not only supported Rainey’s surgery but continues to help small rescues like ours with limited funding. Your kindness and support mean the world to us—thank you from infinity and beyond!

As the day winds down, most people are settling in—comfy clothes on, dinner finished, maybe even tuning into their favorite show 📺. But in another world, an animal rescue volunteer is just starting their evening after a full day’s work. Feeding hungry horses 🐴. Realizing they drove past the feed store without stopping 🚗. Facing the deep mud we all dread this time of year 🌧️. Changing a bandage on a horse that doesn’t understand you’re trying to help 🩹.

The phone is abuzz 📱—another call asking you to take in one more horse. When you explain that you’re at capacity and then some, you’re met with, “Aren’t you a rescue?”

And then, just as the weight of it all feels heavier than ever, you look up and see a red envelope with your name on it 💌. Inside is the sweetest message—a reminder that the work we do doesn’t just impact animals, but it also touches the lives of humans ❤️.

To all the folks in rescue—tonight, tomorrow, and beyond—this is for you too. Keep up the good work 👏. You are making an impact, not just with animals, but with humans.

And Maddie, you made an impact on my life tonight—thank you.

🩺Help us help Rainey⏰
Rainey is known for her sneaky late-night trips to the feed room and organizing “after-hours gatherings” by letting all her friends out of their stalls! 🐴💞

But behind her playful spirit lies a story of perseverance. Born with a clubfoot and a knee deformity, Rainey has faced more challenges than most horses her age. Since at Horse & Halo consistent hoof care has given her some relief, but she’s now at a crossroads: to truly thrive, she needs surgery to alleviate her discomfort and allow her to move freely. 💔

We need your help. Today (we scheduled right after her consult after being told this is her only option), Rainey will undergo surgery with Dr. Wahl at Idaho Equine Hospital. The surgery will modify her check ligament and deep digital tendon, enabling her heel to drop so she can walk—and eventually run—normally. No more tiptoeing for this brave little soul! 🐎✨The estimated cost of the surgery today (not counting aftercare) is $1800-$2500.

All donations made toward Rainey’s surgery will be matched dollar for dollar, by Stella's Shelter Fund(up to $1,000!) 🌟 Your generosity goes twice as far in helping Rainey get the care she desperately needs. 💕 Please help us help her?

🐾✨ Every Day at Horse & Halo is an Adventure! 🐴💕

Yesterday’s adventure? Let’s just say it was purr-fectly unexpected! 🐱💫 While assisting with the care of animals left behind by a late owner, we discovered she wasn’t just a horse lover—her heart extended to dogs and plenty of cats too.

And when we say “herding cats,” we mean it—literally! 😹🐾 From shy snuggle bugs to bold, feisty feline bosses, we learned the ropes of managing all shapes, sizes, and very big personalities. 💖

A heartfelt thank you to the late owner’s daughter, who went above and beyond to ensure every animal had a safe and loving spot to land. 💕

We also want to express our gratitude to the Idaho Animal Rescue Network for your guidance on the 101 things to know about cat rescue and to the Idaho Humane Society for providing supportive care. Your kindness and expertise made all the difference! 🙏💕

Of course, while we adore all creatures, B Cat reigns supreme as our ultimate mascot. 🖤🐾 She’s our black cat, barn queen, and badass extraordinaire. Whether she’s prowling the barn, striking a regal pose, or rolling over for a surprise belly scratch, she’s a daily reminder that one cat can truly be everything. 😏👑

💬 Do you have a black cat, barn cat, or badass cat? We’d love to meet them! Drop their photo in the comments so we can celebrate their fabulousness. 🐾👇

As many are aware, both Lewiston Livestock Market and Lewiston Roundup are currently warning owners about Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1). Links to their posts are below. The livestock market will have ISDA representatives on hand at the sale and the roundup has canceled this weekend’s event.

Please, be cautious with your equine friends and take steps to prevent exposing them. 🐴 🫏

🌟 Our little fella is off to start the next step to being a grown-up! 🌟

Astro left for training yesterday with Butch Mowdy eqkindergaten, and we couldn’t be prouder. This little guy was born here in March, 2023 and is so well-loved by everyone who knows him, and we’re all cheering him on as he takes these important steps in his journey.

There has already been interest in adopting Astro, but we feel strongly about every horse leaving here with a solid foundation. With Butch’s guidance, Astro will develop the skills he needs to thrive in a future home.

Thank you to Chris Fout for being our transport and to all who have supported Astro and Horse & Halo along the way. We can’t wait to see him grow and thrive! 🐴❤️
