The NVHA Mustang adoption is officially wrapped up. We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from our membership and community for this event.

We are just beginning to gather all results but the most important result is in. 20 horses/b***os were adopted at this event! Thank you to all who were a part of this event and know your efforts helped to home the largest number of animals this BLM facility has seen in quite some time. You are all rockstars and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.

Thinking of adopting a wild one this weekend? Read the story of Shoshoni who was adopted at the last adoption in 2018. Come and see her and her family this weekend as she returns to the event to demonstrate how versatile Mustangs are.

On June 15, 2018, we went to Napa Valley Horsemen’s Association to look at the mustangs with no intention of adopting as we had horses at home. We saw the yearlings and immediately fell in love with the “soft eyes” of one of the fillies. I had always wanted a mustang growing up, but it never worked out. Well, on this day I decided to take a step and adopt this filly. It has been one of the most rewarding things I have done. We decided to name her Shoshoni as she is from the Triple B HMA which is located about 30 miles northwest of Ely, Nevada, in White Plains County. (The Shoshone Native American tribe lived in this area.) In the beginning I spent many hours sitting in the pen and relaxing with Shoshoni to gain her trust. She was curious and wanted to be with us. She liked it when other people came to visit. We were so lucky. We spent the first couple of years exposing her to different things; i.e., halter breaking, leading, brushing, picking up her feet, tying, trailer loading/unloading, saddling/unsaddling, etc. We decided to have a cutting horse foundation put on her when she was started. She can be ridden with just your legs! She even learned how to work cows! We discovered through all these activities that she was smart, receptive of new things and most of all devoted to us. This has been and is a wonderful experience to work with and have a mustang be a part of our family. We just love her!

We love a good Mustang adoption story. Here is the story of Wild Bill. Come out and meet Wild Bill this weekend and start your own adoption journey.

Wild Bill came into our lives in 2013. Our good friend had adopted him with her dad in 2010 in Beaumont Texas. She had lost her last horse and was ready to get a new one. Her dad had told her about a BLM Mustang adoption that was going to be nearby. She had taken a trainer with her and they picked out 3 horses for my friend to choose from. Wild Bill was the lucky winner!

They liked him because he was smaller 13.3 and a 5yr old and her dad who was 81 at the time would be handling him. Her dad had a ranch and had Quarter Horses but had always dreamed of having a Mustang.
They took their time once they got him to let him relax and get used to humans. They hired a trainer to get him gentled and my friend swung her leg over for the first time 1yr later. She brought him back to California and that is when my husband and I saw him for the first time.

We really liked him and had told her if she ever wanted to sell him to let us know. Turns out that she ended up having to go to Europe for at least 3 years and asked us if we would care for him while she was gone. We said yes and the rest is history:-) After a year, she asked if we wanted to keep him. She had decided to move closer to her family up north. I was so happy because I had fallen in love with him, and I didn’t know how I was going to give him back. LOL!

He has been such a wonderful horse. He is truly my heart horse and has always been a real sweetheart.

These horses are so versatile and special. It has been an honor to have Wild Bill in our life! We have really spent hundreds of hours of groundwork and riding lessons, but it is priceless to see the results.
